    I was 12 in 86' and 37 years later I'm still mad about this.

      the apostrophe goes before the number when abbreviating the year 🙂

    You doing ASMR is literally the only time I'd be willing to sit through someone talking about this guy.

    Thanks for the football content. VAR avoids big wrong decisions, but it made any mistakes of referees more visible. This creates some backlash but this is growing pain. Referees will adapt better following years.

    I am new to the channel so watching a lot of the videos! They are all amazing and I opened this one thinking I wouldn’t like it because I am not a soccer fan. Then five seconds in “if you aren’t a soccer fan I encourage you to stick around”

    As an Argentinian, I recited that entire line by Victor Hugo Morales in Spanish as you read. I think we all have it memorized by now lmao. Let us also remember that England beat West Germany on a ghost goal so... hehe

    • @Grandmastergav86
      @Grandmastergav86 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      and we were robbed of a legit goal against Germany many years later.

    • @harryminto6048

      But england won the 1966 World Cup final 4-2, so we would've won the game anyway, would we have not?

    • @spicnspan320
      @spicnspan320 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@harryminto6048 Nope. You’re assuming things would’ve continued the exact same way after something that didn’t happen. History would’ve been completely different. England might’ve won or they may have lost. Who knows.

      The Rattin sending off (quarterfinal) was a far worse call than the ghost goal.

    To me the main takeaway is how we take for granted instant replay and all the camera angles. Like arguably it's a better viewing experience at home than at the game! The on screen graphics for first down / line of scrimmage, close ups on players, etc. Back in the day this would've been quickly ruled a handball if we had the tech, but instead it's one of the most (in)famous moments in sports history.

    • @asmrcarine
      @asmrcarine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally! The first down/line of scrimmage graphic is one of the greatest inventions in sports broadcasting history 😅

    The picture must be one of the first times where someone was 'caught in 4k'.

    VAR is used horrendously in the premier league. The biggest tournaments in the world (champions league, World Cup) use an automated VAR for offsides but yet the premier league is too stubborn and chooses their own officials to make those calls (and get it wrong more than you’d think) it’s their own fault for being too stubborn. VAR is a great piece of technology that will help rule out poor calls in games but will only work if the EPL stop being so stubborn and adapt to the times and stop depending on their awful referees.

    I've always blamed Shilton for this. Far too slow to react, then he barely managed to get off the ground and allowed Maradona to outjump him. Why punch too? If one of our players had done it, we wouldn't have complained.

  • @jamesalandixon

    I'm cool with VAR but I think it's being used too often during games. They try to check so many incidents and it causes too many stoppages while the referee waits for their feedback. I think it would have been better to implement it as an "on demand" service like they have in cricket. The captains get to review 2 decisions a half and if they've used all their reviews up tough luck.

    The most legendary cheating and goal scoring all in one match, truly legendary lol. Rest up Diego. VAR is horrendous in its current form maybe we get better with time, but now it’s more trouble than good.
