  • Hawaii is called the "Paradise of the Pacific" thanks to trade winds that help moderate heat and humidity... but this island-home to more than a million people-is still vulnerable to tropical storms... So what happens when a hurricane strikes Paradise? The Weather Channel's Meteorologist Alex Wallace explains, it's not as rare as you might think.

    Hello, thank you for your explanation, we should reduce effect of global warming and change air and water temperature by
    using sea as a part of source of energy for producing electricity and fresh water that I mentioned in my profile.

    With hurricane Lane, we only had rain and winds. There was lots of flash floods on the Big Island.

      Lahaina had a fire for that one too. It burned the whole mountain side. I’m not sure how many houses…not very many. But yeah. We had a fire in Nov 22 also

    Don't forget Hurricane Dora August 2023 with her winds hitting Maui and especially Lahaina at excess of 80 mph! Those relentless high winds combined with a Wildfire near Lahaina created a " perfect storm" of conditions. The wind was blowing the flames directly towards Lahaina where buildings were very old & did not have fire proof rooftops. The road was SO hot that flip flops/ sneakers melted into the blacktop. Sadly, at one point witnesses described the HEAT created by the fire to be SO hot that they saw people spontaneously catch fire;( and there was nothing they could do). R.I.P. to the many who lost their lives in the Lahaina Fire .😔🕊

    Hurricanes occur only in the Atlantic, Storms in the Pacific are typhoons or monsoons, IIRC.

      In the northern half of the Pacific, tropical cyclones east of the International Date Line are hurricanes, and typhoons are west of it.

    • @brolymeng7946
      @brolymeng7946 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Wrong!!!
      Yes storms in the Atlantic are called Hurricanes, but in the Northeastern and Central Pacific are also called Hurricanes and they called it Typhoon only in the Northwestern Pacific. And of course for Cyclones they are called when they are in the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific.
      Also a fun fact: different basins have their own naming list. I said this because there are a lots of confusion on why storms are named differently (well mostly the Americans). And also some basins named their storms different ways like in the Atlantic, Northeastern Pacific, and Southwest Indian Ocean will use different naming list for their new cyclonic season, while the Centre and Northwestern Pacific, the Australian region, North Indian Ocean, and the South Pacific name their storms by continuing the naming list example like last year in 2023 the Northwestern Pacific season ended with the a storm name Jelawat, but the name after that was Ewiniar, so for the next season this year in 2024 the naming list will continued the naming list they use in 2023.
