Sylvie is so charming in the first section of the coda - what a jump and beautifully articulated linking steps. I liked her a lot more in classical works back then. BTW, you can see young Laetitia Pujol and Stéphane Phavorin in the audience!
"the guy" is Patrick Dupond, the former director of POB and one of the best principal ever... It doesn't prevent the fact that Sylvie has an incredible talent, but I don't think that anybody "almost" forgets him while watching this vid...
are you kidding? she's amazing! it's not only knowing how to dance, but also to have the amazing flexibility and strength to do this all while performing and looking beautiful. i would like to see you try to reach this level of performance and control- that is... if you know how to dance... and if you were really wondering- it's pretty damn hard.
16 ! but zomg i literally did a 'faint' off my chair when it ended . so.... omg ! this was the yr and mth i was born, 22 years ago when SHE was 22 ! shit, what am i doing in MY dance life !?
@karebear331 As someone with a naturally high arch (and I'm not trying to show off; I inherited my arches from my dad), I would like to say that it's actually quite hard to pull up after a long time of continually standing on one foot in pointe. Your weight will naturally sink your arch forward and down into the shoe. Tha's why I'm really worried about progressing in pointe; my arch always sinks forward into my foot, and my weight is always distributed forward, making it hard to balance.
Although her technique is amaaaazing, I feel her dancing is a bit... mechanical. Kinda like a degagé exercise instead of a ballet... But i stil love her
@CarolineCatastrophy Search for 'Smoke' with Sylvie (chor: Mats Ek) - three videos when she is doing contemporary and is barefoot. Then you will what her feet are REALLY like :) Watch the whole piece it is absolutely amazing!!! (unless you already have seen it, that is)
@karebear331 i guess you have two options when that happens - either you stay up and try to push yourself up on balance again until you are supposed to go into the next step or you go down and continue. she clearly chose to stay up and fight for the balance. and not many world class ballerinas would go down early would they, they would fight for the balance i am pretty sure...
how would you know? maybe they feel good to her. If they didnt do you think she would have them on? You have to break them in and see how they feel before you go on stage with them. SO she's probably had them for a while and likes them
Let's keep it respectful. Ok, yes the shoe is a disaster, and she is compensating well, in spite of it. But look at some of her other performances and stills. You will see a trend for the right foot, particularly at the toe box. There have been plenty of manufacturers so it is not that she could not find the right shoe.
Wow, I cannot shut my mouth, this is the most incredible ballerina I've ever seen in my life. I can't stop watching videos of her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this delightful clip. Clearly, we need all of the film of this superb ballerina that can be found.
Amazing musicality and artistry beyond just technique.
One of my favorite pas de deuxs EVER- they're both incredible! thanks for posting!
THE BEST OF THE BEST!
A creature of such stunning beauty.
she is just so perfect!!!!!

Me too. On her feet. My own were so narrow especially in the heel I could not keep pointes on without elastics. She has a gorgeous high arch, too!

Yeah, huh. I'm so happy nowadays she decides to use her amazing contemporary skills to please us.

I spelled her last name wrong....but shes amazing
her pas currus(forgive my spelling) look like she's floating!!! beautiful fuettes!!!
Have you seen Giselle ? I can't help admiring how beautiful the movements were created to be.
Very talented does she still dance
i hate to say this but 1987 wasn't that long ago and there were plenty of different types of pointe shoes.
will there be Sylvie Guillem doing the Esmeralda solo variation????? praying praying

Gorgeous, but her pointe shoes look practically dead?? But of course something like that wouldn't keep Sylvie from dancing like the star she is.
incredibile

Lovely! Which ballet and which company?
+bright632 La Esmeralda by the Opéra de Paris ;)
DuPont is even more stunning than Guillem! Just amazing!
no i think it was 16 its hard to tell with the doubles
@MissBouclette1 maybe because she was so unhappy at the paris ballet?

On Occasions...The FRENCH get it Right
How is this stuff physically possible???

does he wearing an earing ti sparks in many times of the vid but in 0:50 its quite visible so i can wear my ices in my gala ahhahahaha
@888dancergirl i think that everybody is looking at her beautiful legs!!!lol
omg her feet are gorgeous...
so she knows how to dance... whats so fantastic? is it really that hard?
ギエムの見た後だと、誰もすごくない···
I would die for those feet!
not to mention her sickeningly gorgeous feet
turns on her heel at 2:37.....but who cares!?!?! shes ungodly.
Her technique is amazing, but this choreography is awful. It is so robotic. Sylvie is the best, though, so I can't fault her.
