- Inspired by the global best-seller, "The Book of Joy," by co-author Doug Abrams (panelist) and co-directed by Peggy Callahan and Oscar® winner Louie Psihoyos, the film provides the foundation for an inspiring and informative conversation about cultivating joy and the groundbreaking science behind it.

Moderated by co-director and producer of Mission: JOY and human rights activist Peggy Callahan, our panel will provide insight into the heartwarming friendship between the Dalai Lama and “Arch” (as he’s known to his friends), the connection between difficult times and happiness, the latest research on the impact of joy, and practical ways to find it.

This is incredible. I cried a lot, laughed a lot, and couldn't stop smiling. It changed my life.
A little project my husband and I started a couple of years ago in our huge retirement community is to leave small gifts of candies, coupons for free items, rubber duckies, and other things inside of parked and open golf carts, which are the main vehicles citizens use to get around here. We also give these gifts to people in person as we come across them in parking lots or as they work to staff the many recreation centers. We call ourselves The Smile Team and in the anonymous notes attached to our little gifts we suggest to recipients that they might repay the kindness to others. Surprisingly to us, we have since learned through others that some people are doing just that. This fills us with joy as much as those who receive these small gestures. We have a lot of fun doing this and are always looking for ways to increase happiness in our community. While we may not be aligned politically with our neighbors, it takes so little effort to share a smile from our hearts. 🥰
Finding JOY is like using a form of "chi" -- turning the negative into the positive, the dark into the light.

Laughter is also a remedy. Laughter in the face of adversity, in hardship. Learn to laugh when times are tough and learn to laugh when you are in dire straits. It sounds impossible to do but it can be done. That's why oppressed peoples such as black, Jew, gay etc. have a strong tradition of caustic comedy. You laugh in the face of adversity and hardship and it disempowers it. It makes it seem absurd. It puts it in perspective.
The personal sharing is deeply moving and humbling. This is a wonderful expansion of the film's messages. Many thanks. Jinpa's sound is a bit soft; can it be adjusted?
