  • While new flagship headphones are released fairly often, new reference DAC and amplifier releases are much fewer and farther between. And yet, in this day and age where digital audio is ubiquitous, they are no less important to a Head-Fier's signal chain. On this episode of Head-Fi TV, we take a look at the DAC501 and the DAC502, the latest flagship DACs from Weiss Engineering's DAC50x series. Join us as we see, and hear, if it has what it takes to meet the needs of even the most demanding and discerning of headphone enthusiasts.

    Liked this video a lot. Both the content and the style. Not to long the presentation is clear and comprehensive but a special mention to the editing, just super! Well illustrated and the way you present the songs you use is brilliant (even not playing them because is useless here, smart!).
    I will check forward!
    Congratulations and thanks for producing and sharing.
    Greetings from Brazil.

    You should have tested the latest model 50x 4ch mk2, way better - at least you didnt mention. Did the upgrade 3 months ago, another step up!

      I would love to have tried the 4ch versions, but I began this review quite a while ago with the older versions. If/when I get a chance to evaluate the 4ch versions, I'll post updates. 🙂

    Question that I’ve been wondering is how does it sound compared to the Mola Mola tambaqui?

    Would love to hear how it compares to a Mola Mola Tambaqui

    Great review, Warren! We're all huge fans of the Weiss DACs over here as well.

      Specifically, serial no. 541. 😃
      Fun Fact for everybody: The exact DAC502 unit that I evaluated earlier this year is now at Bloom Audio. I know, because Weiss's distributor, Bluebird Music, had me forward it to them at the end of my evaluation period. You can see it in Bloom Audio's video at th-cam.com/video/3O-Qpb6qqys/w-d-xo.html

    could you please do a review on the Sennheiser IE 600 ? There is nobody who did the amazing THD measurements like you guys always do.

    Jazz is an audiophile cliche. But Cameron Graves' Planetary Prince has it all. Listening to this album on my Utopia as I type this. Wanna hear the synergy of a superlative drums sound? Try it with a great dynamic driver! Thanks for the recommendation! I'm tempted to try Weiss latest no-frills (relatively speaking of course) version of the DAC50x - the DAC204. Would love to see a review.

      Thanks @jeedmodorn5494, I'm happy you liked it! 😃 I agree, Planetary Prince is definitely a standout album. That said, you might also enjoy James Francies's Flight and Manu Katché's Unstatic if you're in a discovering mood.

    technically I don't understand why converting everything to 195kHz makes the sound better. or some won't even consider these Weiss DAC "lossless", given there is no way to fully bypass all the DSP and SRC.

    $10k for ESS Sabre DAC chips, o....k.....

    • @gerihifi
      @gerihifi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, look in ither dacs 50k up ;-) just if someone is using fpga and 'custom' DAC chip, it is in majority akm, ess behind ... IT IS NEVER THE DAC CHIP, ALWAYS THE DESIGN AND COMPONENTS CHOOSEN!

    • @djhmax09
      @djhmax09 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mean it's all about how they implement it. I had the same thought you had when I bought my DAC, and then I actually heard it... really doesn't matter what chip is used as long as it sounds good. That's how I see it at least

    • @warrenpchi
      @warrenpchi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two of them in fact! 😆 Kidding aside, I can attest that it definitely does not sound like a default ESS implementation.

      Implementations matters the most when it comes to DACs. plus, ESS produces highly advanced chips compared to the competitors

      You should try it out if you can. Don't know if you'll like it though, since it doesn't say "Sony" on it. 😝

    That much money for a dac dependent on 3rd party apps like mconnect is bonkers.
