    Very Middle Eastern sound - never heard that in a Banjo before. Wonderful!

      And sounds like an Indian melody in the instrumental before the song.

      Tony says it is a banjo tuned as a guitar and played like a banjo. I don't know what that means but I would never question this master lol And keep in mind, he is 66 years old here! Awesome talent

      It’s a belly dancer. While the lyrics were a little risqué for the 1960’s, it wasn’t a strip club. There are much classier than that!

  • @janmarsh
    @janmarsh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The Hollies give it it's correct name .... Sitar Guitar. Many different designs & characteristics, depending on the maker.
    Both Tony Hicks & Bobby Elliot Have now remained together for over 50 years.

    • @Jennifer85977
      @Jennifer85977  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Guitar Sitar is used only on The Baby and is Blue. The one on the video is an electric banjo.

    • @janmarsh
      @janmarsh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tony performed an identical intro to stop stop at The Liverpool Philharmonic a couple of weeks ago. They termed it Guitar Sitar prior to Tony's solo stint. I had never heard of the instrument before.

    • @Jennifer85977
      @Jennifer85977  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was at the Liverpool concert also and it was the 6th show this Autumn tour I have attended and Peter Howarth introduces the Guitar Sitar before The Baby. Stop Stop Stop is introduced with the Peter telling the story of how it came to be written. Tony stands with his Banjo before starting the intro as this video.

    • @janmarsh
      @janmarsh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jennifer85977
      You are certainly a big fan Jennifer :)
      As I mentioned, I'd never heard of the instrument before.
      I also laughed with all the rest when the storyline was explained to the audience.
      I'm confused now. Seems as though I heard Guitar Sitar mentioned & made an inaccurate assumption.
      One of the best live performances I've seen of any group was The Hollies at Liverpool's Shakespeare Theatre in the early seventies. Could not have been long before it burned down.

To my knowledge the Who and the Stones are not just the only British Invasion dudes still around but about everyone else (the Zombies, the Animals, the Kinks, etc, etc, etc). The shirt Tony Hicks is wearing looks exactly like the one he wore on a Top of the Pops appearance back in June 1966 performing Bus Stop. The clip is on youtube. Tony has always been remarkably youthful looking, but this shirt no longer hangs down as smoothly as it did back in '66.

      ***** It's true... as integral as Tony and Bobby were to the sound of the Hollies, it's hard when you don't have Allan Clarke there.

    • @dxroadduke
      @dxroadduke 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know Allan is retired and Graham has a lot going on with CSN (and sometimes Y), or his various other projects-- but yeah, it would be great to see them both rejoin Tony and Bobby just for a little bit!!

    • @maplessence
      @maplessence 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +dxroadduke My understanding is that Allan's voice has gone, so if that was the case I think it would be sad to see him perform. Graham Nash of course was wonderful but I was a 70s girl, so I remember Terry Sylvester & think his contribution shouldn't be overlooked.

      +Carol Fill I know that Terry Sylvester, Bernie Calvert and Eric Haydock were all inducted into the Rock and Roll HOF along with the rest of the Hollies. it was 2010 or 2011, I forget... I don't always agree with the Hall of Fame's picks, but I did like this choice. The Hollies deserved it!

    Tony Hicks - the one and only! I have so much respect for him as a person and a musician.
    Listening to his lead in to Stop Stop Stop in this video, I am reminded of a song by another under-rated musician - Al Stewart. Though Stewart is playing not a banjo, but a guitar (I assume a 12 string), some parts of the following music video remind me so much of Tony's lead in: m.th-cam.com/video/X0b0M4OWuZc/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUWYWwgc3Jld2FydCBub3N0cmFkYW11cw%3D%3D

      Bands that have been around for 50/60 yrs all have personnel changes, many times lead singer. Tony and the drummer played in all the hits, so this version is not a tribute band. These bands tour without orig lead singer, are they tribute bands? Santana, Journey, Temptations, Styx, Lovin Spoonful, Foreigner, 4 Tops, and a long list.
