“Historical Purposes”, good grief! Maybe they should ship some Imperial Stormtroopers instead of the first order ones clogging the pegs right now at my local Walmart.
The Walmart I frequent most had eleven of these that sat around forever, like literally forever. This week they were clearanced for $19 each and all of them are gone. For $19 this is a superb toy. $79 was an absurd asking price.
I’m hoping this one gets deep discounted as I want one despite owning the Solo version. Everything about it just seems better. But not $80 better. Wake me up when this starts going for $35 or less.
The Tie fighter pilot on the left is squadron commander Lt. Xixio. The silver paint down the middle of the helmet. Just noticed it, Hasbro being sneaky as usual with these new releases lol
I love how they try to recreate the classic package art. Since when did they start using foreign languages so heavily on the packages? I'm guessing to save money on importing instead of changing the package for each country like they use to?
I've been thinking on getting the Solo tie or this tie for the longest time. So glad i got the TVC one. Though i didn't expect it to be taller then the Black Series 3.75 AT-ST.
Normally I try not to watch reviews of stuff I already want to get since I do reviews too, but after seeing this I feel bad for people spending a hard earned $80 on it. I like to support Star Wars but not for reissued $40 vehicles. I'd rather have the Solo version even though I'm not sure I like the break away body, but you said it holds together well and pretty sturdy. I'd only go $40 on this TVC version and the pilot's legs look awful. Make that $30 now.

I already have seven Target TIEs and was questioning if I really needed a couple of these Walmart versions, and I'm not sold on the idea that this version is "screen accurate" in color.... too dark but the silver highlights convinced me it's not. I do love the pilot himself, though. And I love the stacks of them available on ebay at this writing (5/16/2019) for $35-$40 shipped. The right price! A pile of these would look so cool LOL

Best thing to do is to see if Walmart has started cutting the prices down on these yet. I often wait until about now (January/February) to start buying things from Star Wars. Last year I got my son a First Order TIE for Christmas, they were selling for about $50 before Christmas at my local Walmart, I waited until a couple months went by and I got it off the shelf for $20 out the door on sale. I might check and see if my local store has any of these left but I am not really thrilled with the quality, don't like the way the wings pop off and go back on the First Order TIE either.
Unlike previous toys, the packaging is simpler, cheaper to implement and full in austerity. This seems to be useful to allocate money into better materials and better finishing. Looks way better than the tie interceptor.
First comment I have ever left on a review. That is to say this, The way you present these next to previous releases is perfect. It would be amazing if you could do comparisons (side by side) of all previous releases. One group, then side by side. Great work!

Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before Wal-Mart puts these on Clearance. They aren't selling. They will need shelf space for the upcoming Jabba's Playset that includes VC 136 Han Solo (in Carbonite) and VC 137 Ree-Yees. Maybe, they should have carded the Tie Fighter Pilot on a Vintage Card to help it sell. But for $80.00 it would have needed another figure. Maybe the Death Star Droid on a Vintage Card, since collectors haven't received that yet.
Looks good.... but the pilot looks like a repainted older sculpt you can see the joints in the front of the legs still might pick this up of I can find it for cheap
It certainly could be a repaint of another pilot. There’s been so many and often reused it wouldn’t surprise me. Or at least lit bashed from various releases
I bought mine at a comic store since I never bought the initial product when it was released and of course I also had the wing problem. Though I'm holding off on gluing it, but wondering if you have pulled it apart or seen other videos that have done it yet?
You're right, way too expensive. And now most Walmarts that carry them can't sell them. Hasbro really needs to do some market research before overpricing items to take advantage of nostalgic collectors.
Not wrong at all. Besides, finding it for $20 is probably better than the other route of finding the Battle Over Endor set of figures. That one though keeps the removable helmet.
How do the sizes compare to the 6-inch black series? I'm trying to start an imperial collection and would love a Tie Fighter for it, but I cannot tell if they are compatible. Could you help me out?
Got mine for $30 which is neat... but the locking mechanism of one of the wings just broke on me?? :/ anyone got any solutions on how to fix it? Now the spring just keeps shooting off the wing when I'm trying to display it
I ended up with the same problem on mine. I’ve heard it’s a clip breaking on the inside. I haven’t torn mine apart to check it out so I don’t know of a solution to fix it.
Yes. If you watch Eckhart's Ladder, he's very smart about Star Wars and he often complains about mistakes with Imperial ships in the movies. But, I actually think these inadequacies are done on purpose. The Rebel fighters have hyperdrives where the Imperial ones don't. They also have eject systems TIEs never had been shown in the original movies, better peripheral view ports, more armament and greater power than Imperial ships on purpose also. It shows that in warfare, the Empire cared too much about appearances, massive numbers orders and restrictions than capabilities, safety and improvisation like the Rebels did. If these warfare hints can be taken seriously, then TIE fighters would be the always clean, cheaply made, mass-produced, lower-skilled death pods that the Empire had flooded their fleets with than the Rebel fighters were. The Empire didn't care about the pilots' lives as much, nor did they care about features that would help them with achieving off-mission objectives better.
Hasbro should refund EVERYONE who had trouble with these wings. The plastic that locks the wings is so brittle. I stupidly bought this twice and each time the wings broke merely by resting on my shelf. Don’t buy it.
Its really not. Luckily I only paid 40 for it still in the box but sadly only after 2 months the clip on the left wing that helps attach it the cockpit broke off and I had to super glue it for it stay on.

With as common as it seems for the wings to break I can’t recommend purchasing this version. They’re breaking just being assembled and sitting on the shelf. The Solo Force Link Tie Fighter is a great vehicle with a nice break apart feature. If it’s the larger size you’re after than any of the other releases will be better than this Vintage Collection version. Unless you’re fine with glueing the wings on.
its 95 pounds in the uk so 120 dollars and now finding out its just a remould of the 2009 which at least the seams line up where on this vc they dont,,,,probably someone found the old mould for the legacy one and thought i got an idea,,,utter crap,no electrics,,no sounds,,pilot not on card and also crap,,,so glad i didnt buy this its worth 19.99 tops
It's still a tough call but yes it is. I'd have an easier time saying yes if it was $60 but the Vintage packaging is nice and the vehicle still looks good.
The Saga Tie I would say is stable. There is a minor amount of wobble but it does have large, thin plastic wings. So nothing that bothers me. At least they stay attached unlike this TVC release. They broke sitting on my shelf just after I made this review.

Saw 2 at a Wal-Mart today at $40 actually. But a dif Wal-Mart had them for $9 yesterday! So check your clearance sections at Wal-Mart near you!

The hooks that hold the wings break in time. I had to glue these broken pieces together.
Yeah I just had mine snap, during storage. I pulled it out to look and it just fell apart.
Same got pretty pissed.
Got this for Christmas two years ago. Wings don't wanna attach at all. No matter how much force I put on it.
80.00 is expensive for the minor changes vs the legacy version and the pilots helmet isnt removable

At the very least an exchange program should be offered. These are still being bought and it’s a defective item.

Does it scale well with the Legacy Falcon?
Not too bad. I don’t know what the scaling should look like but I’d say the Falcon is just a little undersized in scale to the Tie Fighter.
