Empress Masako's condition was apparently caued by the long-term bullying by the former empress Michiko and princess Kiko. Those two women have bullied Masako and tried their best to put down Masako for years, so of course she got traumatized by this and stopped appearing in the public.
Now that she's become the empress I think those 2 women cannot really bully her anymore, so hopefully she will regain her confidence and become more active.

That's must be from the controversial book in which according to the writer came from current Empress Masako closed friends. But I personally don't think that's true. Previous Empress Michiko herself despite came from an elite family is considered a commoner and have a hard time within the family. But I do think that she is being bullied but not from Empress Michiko or Princess Kiko but from the Imperial Family Household Agency of Japan. The current Emperor do have a record of being angry at the agency in matters related to his wife. The agency is the one that manage all the crazy ancient tradition that according to the book, seem 'barbaric' that you would never think any modern family would do it even as tradition.

A bullying isn't new in the imperial family(and in any family traditionally in Japan 😀) by the way, and even the former empress Michiko was bullied by her mother in-law.

It's hard for the new generation to counter their arguments as there have been only one instance where an Empress is being replaced by another Empress and even then the next Emperor is being choose not from her son but another line connected to the previous Emperor. The rest of the Empress mostly a wife of the previous Emperor or mother of the next Emperor. Which means they have an unbroken father to son lineage from the very first Emperor to the current Emperor. At least according to traditional Shinto record that conservative hail up. For the new generation that demand a change to allowed a regnant Empress, this is not an easy argument to counter. You know for the conservative, this is a record that should be preserved. Unbroken father to son monarchy lineage. Honestly, even previous Emperor have hinted that he and his son the current Emperor to support the change to Imperial law. But Emperor is only a symbol with not even on-paper authority. The Imperial family itself is being governed and manage by the Imperial Family Household Agency as provided by the constitution and law. Of course the Imperial family of Japan have a representative within the agency but I doubt they have any influenced. The current Emperor have a record of being angry at the agency when he's still Crown Prince over the pressure for his wife to give birth a prince and the way the agency handled the public harassment towards his wife for failure to give birth to a prince despite being a Crown Princess.
All for political convenience, meaning the people in power couldn't agree on who should be the next Emperor, or didn't wish a prince to hold any power.

And watch the Crown Prince's birthday press conference last November. He tries to blame and regulate some of the people. He seems more interested in self-preservation and gaining interests. But the Emperor is a being who prays for the peace of the nation. It is obvious which one has the qualities of an emperor.
If the female line of succession is allowed, women of the Imperial Family will not be kicked out of the Imperial Family after marriage. The Empress will not be under pressure to give birth to a boy.

If I was to to make up a movie about princess Aiko it would go like this: it would opt on the imperial palace with cherry blossom trees around it. It would then show the imperial family having dinner. Aiko tells her father, emperor Naruhito, that she feels lonely and left out and he just tells her it's normal to feel those feelings sometimes. She walks out onto the balcony and looks off into the distance. later when the imperial family goes to bed Naruhito tells Masako he wants Aiko to be the next ruler of Japan but unfortunately it's not his decision. The next day Naruhito wakes up feeling quite ill. Over the next few days his health gets worse. His brother is made his regent. Eventually Naruhito decides to abdicate. It is announced his brother akishino will be the next emperor. A few days later Aiko makes a speech about her father's reign. Her speech inspires the public so much that they start to wanting Aiko to be the next ruler. After hundreds of people writing to parliament about it they decide to hold a referendum on whether or not to abolish male only primogeniture. the absolute primogeniture supporters win and Jap an finally adopts absolute primogeniture. It is then announced that Aiko will become empress. Naruhito's health also gets better and he says he is so proud of his daughter. The movie ends with Aiko's coronation as empress, making her 127th monarch of Japan.

He has nothing to copy all on his mind the way he looks in the sky. Or in the trees or at the floor of the church what he saw on his own eyes by using his imagination he can draw it.
They seem to be sweet, loving family who are doing their best to carry their duties with dignity and dedication, but to live as normal family life as possible. While it would be a great victory for female rights if princess Aiko becomes an empress one day, perhaps it would be much better for her if she leads a life of her choice, with personal happiness, perhaps family and much more freedom. Both Aiko and her parent appear to be rathe kind, sweet people. Wishing them all the very best.

[Note] Tennou means Emperor in Japanese referring to both genders.
In Japanese mythology, the highest rank of God is Amaterasu no ōmikami, a goddess from the Shintō religion. The Imperial family is believed to be her descendants and it is an uncertain fact but also is believed that the first emperors of Japan were all women.
