Benjamin Mastripolito always happy to pass on new recommendations! Thanks for checking it Out! His first album is much more straight forward, but equally as excellent.
hey, hope you like it, probably one of my favorite albums of 2017. i would also suggest preoccupations, iceage, ought, and algiers for good modern post punk bands. i think fantano gave good scores to all of these bands as well.
He tried to sell me on a credit card I asked about the weather and whether his life was hard You say your name is Lazlo? I don't think that is true Because Yar, I know a Lazlo And he doesn't sound half as smart as you
This is a 9 for me. BTW I wanted to say I really recommend reading Protomartyr's interviews - Joe Casey has such interesting things to say about all the tracks, it gave me so much more appreciation for his lyricism.

Saw these guys at a festival in Denmark and I was quick to preorder the vinyl when I saw them posting it on Facebook. Really enjoying the album so far, and the vinyl (+ all the extra bits) are all really pretty.
I loved this album 2 years ago, i still love it today, i feel that, with every listen, i discover something new that i love about this record, honestly a strong 9 for me
Agree wholeheartedly, best Protomartyr material since their super early stuff. Everyone should see them live if they can, they're touring now and they slay.
This is certainly my AOTY. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since it came out, and yet it keeps getting better. It is the best sort of album - one that grows constantly the more one listens.
For my money, Protomartyr, and the lesser known Cleveland band Pleasure Leftists, have been the two best post bands of the last decade or so. Protomartyr hasn't put out a bad release since day one. Time to break out their first single and listen to "You're With Creep" & "Baseball Bat".
Easily my top album of the year. As for the whole "theme" that you were talking about, I read in a few interviews that Joe Casey was pretty influenced by the concept of truth, even though he didnt see it as a concept album
I must say that I rarely write comments, but feel compelled to say thumbs up to a very spot on, honest review that strangely parallels my own constructive criticism. This album was so close to ascending all for the year. I hear everything you did, but it needs some raw Lungfish, and some stolen melodic June of 44 Melody. I'm definitely going to give this album more of my time. I'm saddened that they only have three shows lined up for North America this year. Hopefully they line something else up soon. These guys need to get ahold of Bob Weston.
Based on a true story. It was August 17, 2000. It was a windy day in Miami, Florida when Gazzy Garcia was born. Ever since his birth, family and friends noticed something about him, something special. When he was 4, he was given a toy cat piano by his uncle. He immediately proceeded to play Symphony No. 9 by the legendary composer Beethoven. When he was sixteen, he was admitted into Harvard University. He expanded his knowledge and love for the arts, but dropped out only a year later. His mother asked him why he dropped out. Gazzy simply replied, “to save the rap game.” THE QUEST OF GAZZY GARCIA It started slow for Gazzy, he only had a few friends. Those friends meant a lot to Gazzy, though, as they were the ones who persuaded him to leave school. Since then he had taken up the name Lil Pump, taken after his grandmother, Lilian Pumperelli. He and his friends went to eBay to find a microphone, they found one second hand from a MineCraft TH-camr with 600 subscribers. In the day the mic arrived, they recorded three rap songs. They made the beats on their phones and played them into the microphone as Lil Pump rapped at the same time. The songs were awful. Once they were recorded, they were put on to SoundCloud, a budding internet music-sharing platform. They first two got about thirty listens each, but the third, self-titled, had over three thousand. Pump and his friends, Lil Water and Lil Tex, were overjoyed. It had only been six hours, yet “Lil Pump” had 3,169 listens. They then looked at the comments. “FIRE!”, someone said. “SONG OF THE YEAR”, said another. This song definitely had fans. It was then that Pump realized his own potential. Two weeks later, Pump had found a job and was living happily in his mother’s basement. At about that time he thought it was necessary to release a new song, and so he did. It was titled “Boy I’m the Man”. His fans were notified on their phones. It was so exciting to so many of them, only to find a huge disappointment. It was buy far his worst song so far. He quickly deleted the song. His fans hatred of this song caused Pump to sink into a deep, dark depression. Finding no fun from life, he started doing drugs like Xanax and started drinking concoctions made from Codeine. To be continued.
I really liked the album Agent Intellect but this one just didn't stick. It had some great songs but most of them were singles. I really thought I would love this album.
For me, this is a 9/10, not just for the great post-punk vibe, but also for poetic wealth.
This is album of the year right here.
It really is fantastic.
Abel Ramirez kek
Just going to write this! Glad it's the first comment!
Abel Ramirez for sure:)
Brutalism was the better post-punk album IMHO
My favourite album in at least a decade. I can't stop playing it and still not bored with it. Cannot wait for their next release 9/10

Can't wait for that Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile review. Very tasty album
YES finally, i am loving this album like crazy!! The bass and guitar work on this really is way more dynamic, completely agree
Saw these guys at a festival in Denmark and I was quick to preorder the vinyl when I saw them posting it on Facebook.
Really enjoying the album so far, and the vinyl (+ all the extra bits) are all really pretty.

This has been... a surprisingly very good year for music, lots of really great albums this year, including this one^

Saw them in the seaside towns Ramsgate Music Hall a couple of years ago. One of the best gigs I've witnessed.

I've been waiting a long time for this review to come out. Thank you for this Fantano. Protomartyr is one of the best bands right now.
Love this record. Totally agree with this.
My Children is such a good song omg
Easily my top album of the year.
As for the whole "theme" that you were talking about, I read in a few interviews that Joe Casey was pretty influenced by the concept of truth, even though he didnt see it as a concept album
Do 'I Hate Mars Bars'.
dom jm No likes this time bro HAHAHAHAHA
Definitely my AOTY.
I'm glad Cal has been showing up more often.
This album was a breath of fresh air after the waves of Twee Bedroom Rock and Bubblegum Lo-fi Pop we've been getting lately.
Thoughts on the new Electric Wizard song? Well I guess it isn’t too new anymore, but still...

This album finds the perfect mix between dissonance and openness. Thanks for the review/recommendation, Anthony.
what the fuck does that mean. fuck you!
Picked up both a Nick Cave and a David Thomas voice. Whole album is actually kind of like P-Ubu went post, minus some of the usual antics.
After jamming Protomartyr intensely, I came back here to rewatch this (and Ultimate success today). I realized Melon just be melon.
I have to agree with you, Melon. Solid 8/10 for me as well.
If you like this, you'll definitely like Shpongle, new album coming out on Oct 23rd!
i kept getting an ad for the album but its so good so do i mind? 🤔
I definitely have to go listen to this album now
Very cool. I'm really digging this.
What about the new Benjamin Clementine album, I Tell A Fly?
