So glad I got to see her in Portland on tour :) i was a sophomore in high school at the time and new I was seeing a legend!!! Then when I came to New York to start my own career I got to see her one woman show and multiple other times! RIP :)
Saw the show in London at The Shaftesbury Theatre - sensational. It really is time for a revival. Chita was completely amazing in this role. The score is stunning and the production was something else. We need a lavish BIG show back in town!
I was at opening night at the Shaftesbury Theatre and what a magical evening it was. As you say an amazing production and cast. Had dinner at Joe Allen’s after the show and Chita walked in and everyone gave her a standing ovation. A night to never forget!

I saw this on tour and San Francisco, and to watch her move the way she did while in her 60s and after a near fatal car accident was inspiring. She was amazing
I just saw Chita perform in Boston last week - just her & Seth Rudetsky on piano. She did 2 songs from this and she looked & sounded exactly the same!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the lovely memories. I actually got to see this production during my only visit to Manhattan. It was a fabulous evening and Chita was every inch the star.
Thank you SOOO much for this. I saw the tour in 94 (I think) in Vancouver, though by the time we got it, it was Chita but, I am pretty sure, Jeff Hyslop was in it (off the top of my head, I know Merle Louise was the mother...)
I think the sole reason this show hasn’t been revived, is that the right person hasn’t appeared yet to play Aurora. I can’t think of any actress that would match Chita in this role.
No one will ever match Chita in this role. I would suggest Ute Lemper, who of course played Chita's role of Velma in the "Chicago" revival in London and NY. Then again, Catherine Zeta-Jones would sell more tickets and would be quite suitable.

I must agree. Even after 25 years, I never get tired of "Where You Are." In terms of upbeat show tunes, it doesn't get much better.

AAAAAAND she did this for a year and 2 months on Broadway. Took a year off and then did 11 months in this tour. Absolutely phenomenal.

Rita Gardner was the original Luisa in The Fantasticks (New York, 1960). Great to have the short clip of her singing at the end.
