I'm a ac /dc fan now since 50 years.. And I'm 57 years now. Bon was absolutely the greatest, most fantastic singer ever. There will never anyone better than Bon.. I think about Bon everyday.
We're lucky to have this interview, recorded a couple weeks before he passed. He was in great spirits and "Highway to Hell" was a smash hit in the States. What a moment in time!
Honestly such a shame. He passed on the cusp of the most meteoric rise to fame of any rock band ever. And it was fueled by his hard work. He should have reaped the benefits.

Met Bon and Cliff at a Radio station stop in San Jose California 1979 A Day after I saw them at a Monsters of Rock Concert with Ted Nugent and Aerosmith we talked for a bit Drank a Beer with them and smoked a little weed Both were real down to earth blokes and funny as Fuck and I got Their autographs still have them by the way Mom has them in photo album stashed away!! Big surprise at the end! Bon mentioned traveling to Wheeling WV for the next show on the tour. That is my hometown, born and raised, left for the big city when I was 19. Came home when I was 22, 27 years ago, I love this place. Loved hearing Bons interview, he was an amazing cat!

If Im not mistaken Bon passed 19 feb 1980 my birthday is 19 Feb 1981 , since 11 I allways listened to Bon Scott AC/DC for the whole day and chuking down some pints RIP legend !
It's unbelievably sad that Bon Scott was not able to get help for his alcoholism. Also I have no idea why the interviewer asked if he was sober doing the show. This interview was done shortly after the concert and you can hear how drunk he is in his voice. He is mumbling at the end of sentences and slurring words. Bon had passed away 7 years before I was born but it don't take much to see the amazing humor, personality and spirit this man had. He was lonely, he was having a very hard time with the stress of the lifestyle. I just really wish back in the 60s, 70s and 80s that there were more people in the music circles to say "hey, you need help" for them to not be "yes men/women" to not be just a kiss ass and give them whatever they want. But your Hindsight is 20/20 unfortunately some people tend to be almost blind looking forward. 😢 ❤
The American management which looked after the interests of the group was a great opportunity for the group and a financial contribution that Malcolm wanted to succeed in making his group number one in its genre and recognized by its peers in the USA. 🤨 Nothing could stop him, whether it was the death of Bon, Cliff or Phil... His philosophy is that no one is irreplaceable at AC/DC. 😮 He, the leader, being an alcoholic couldn't be of good advice to the late singer. Angus, obsessed with his guitar; Paranoid Phil and Wise Cliff were all too young and intoxicated with phenomenal success to be able to handle Bon's excesses. Too bad he left too soon, the musical direction would have been different. 😐

It's very hard to top, by any band, the 5 album run by AC/DC with Bon Scott.. from High Voltage to Highway to Hell. Then add Back in Black with Brian for #6 is amazing for kick ass Rock..

I haven't looked on Setlist yet, but if you look up the show before the Wheeling West Virginia concert, that will give you the date of this interview. Bon's comments about the way US rock stations were in the mid 70s were pretty spot on. Nothing against James Taylor, personally, but he isn't really rock, at least not as I envision the genre. But the comment Bon made was true. In the mid 70's rock stations would play Pablo Cruise, Earth Wind & Fire, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Average White Band, Ambrosia, Pure Prairie League, and other softer tinged, yacht music stuff that after the NWOBM hit in the early 80s would cause a rock station to get laughed at. I think Van Halen, AC/DC, and the NWOBM sort of woke up the genre, and rock stations understood that they had to tweak the format away from the yachties and more towards those who liked loud guitars and punchy drums, and a lot more energy to their music.
He's right that they weren't rock, but I hate what he said about them. They weren't dumb and they weren't crap, they were soft pop and he used to sing that "dumb" pop stuff in The Valentines. Comparing the two genres is like comparing berries and salsa; they're very different but both great in their own way.

canada did do that with weed way back I remember being at wreck beach and the cops were walking around and this dood hurried and buried all his beer in the sand but left this big bag of weed sitting out in the open, cops stopped by asked if anyone was drinking, nope, a few jokes they strolled on... this was like a 2 lb bag, back in the mid 80's? dood said they don't do much about weed less you sell it, to have under an ounce was like a $100 fine.. lololololo
