Hey guys, Keep up the good work. The old Pontiac is thankful for the attention your giving it. Don't ever get discouraged, just get in there & start doing something! In the end you can brag about the build & be like...yeah, I fixed that.
Hey good video I’m 15 and all the stuff you do interest me, also the fact that you aren’t experts actually makes the videos even more interesting because when you realize how to do something correctly or whatever, it just seems to add a layer of value to your video in some way! Because I guess I relate to not knowing much of anything, but it’s fun to learn with you guys as you also learn and try to correct mistakes and then teach the right way to do them.
Thanks for watching! And I am glad someone finds our lack of expertise interesting lol. Hope you learn something along with us, if anything how not to do things!
wow, it's been a long time glad to see you all back again your videos are great your descriptions are great we all like the videos a lot that car your working on is is going to look great
Thanks for watching and the kind words. It gets pretty cold where we live, this week has been consistently -20 to -30 degrees F. And its difficult keeping the shop warm, so its hard to get motivated to work on things. But we have been trying! We hope to get back to uploading a lot more often and consistently as spring roles around.
If you haven't tried getting the fenders off yet, I started to and realized it's a lot easier to take the whole front off at once. Both fenders and grill. Not many bolts, and makes it super easy to get at everything. I had to do front end work and actually weld the frame back up as I had a lot of cracking on both sides. Almost all the way through. I think someone must have jumped a cattle guard with it or something. We reinforced with some plate and will try not to be so rough with it. I hear the frames have issues and honestly seems flimsy. Especially the cross braces. They are twisted up too.
in 1978 my first car was a 51 pontiac chieftain. mine had one bad door panel "just the material" but other than that was perfect inside and out. she had a bad tie rod end and perfect running straight eight engine, and even perfect dark green paint. oh and even the hood ornament lit up too. bought her for $300. it is my opinion that auto manufacturing has steeply declined every since then.
I absolutely agree about the manufacturing. 50-mid 60s are my favorite era of vehicles. Back then, things were designed to last and could be repaired by the owner it most circumstances. Now they are designed to break and only be fixed by 'experts'
@@MrWarthog213 the armrests on my 51 are plastic and have warped and broken themselves in a weird fashion. I have made two out of cedar wood and have two more to go. Not original, but it carves easy and I think will look awesome. I just copied the original shape best I could. I was going to use the chrome strip from the original but that might be expecting too much.

Great job! I'm not that good a welder, but I'm becoming an almost professional grinder! L.O.L.
Only way to get good welding is to do it. I'm gonna be putting some body patches on my 76 impala this spring. Awesome video

Thanks for the tip, we will be removing the entire front end to pull the straight 8 and swapping in the 472.

@@WestMountainClunkers plastics last about 20 years then it starts to warp and decay and modern cars are full of it too
