  • In this one hour documentary, we will unravel the history of the Germans from their prehistorical arrival on continental Europe in 2000BC up to the unification of the German people under the flag of the German Empire, orchestrated by Otto von Bismarck of Prussia in 1971, followed by the horrrors of the 20th century - the first and second world wars, which resulted in the final unification of Germany as we know it today.

    I’m currently reading a book about The Holy Roman Empire. Before that, I read The Soldier Kings about the Hohenzollern dynasty. My mother is German, and I’ve been exposed to German food, and culture all of my life. Despite not being a German myself, I couldn't be more proud of Germany. It's so fascinating to see how Germany got the blame for literally everything throughout its history, yet the country bounced back every time and now it's a leading nation many other ones could take as an example. The resilience is beyond admirable. I look forward to the day I will see the German flag proudly being waved in the country. It might as well happen right now, because the Germans deserve this.

    Too bad you missed Henry I (the Fowler), father of Otto the Great. Most historians would name him the first proper king of medieval Germany. He's the first strong king after a number of weak Carolingian/Frankish kings and founder of the first Saxon dynasty. He brought Lotharingia into the realm and unified the tribes under one rulership so that they were able to fight back against the invading Magyars.
    He also signed the treaty of Bonn with his West Frankish counterpart Charles the Simple in which they acknowledged each other as kings in their respective realms thus cementing the divide between France and Germany for the future.

      @@deutschermichel5807 I can see why some would, but I'm not sure people at the time would regard the both Frankish kingdoms as truly separate. Conrad I wasn't a Carolingian but he was still a Frank. Before the Carolingians the Frankish kingdom was ruled by the Merovingians for centuries, so a change of ruling dynasties wasn't unheard of.
      It wasn't until the treaty of Bonn that both kings definitively named each other as sovereigns in their respective realms.

It is strictly of Armenian origin and progressed from Armen Armin to Latinized Arminius to Herman to German..in addition, from his book, many Norse mythological concepts, also mirror Armenian mythology..lso from The German Realms in pre-Carolingian Central Europe..Herbert Schultz,2000, page 313..it says the following.." damn! Dude... I never knew to think that a mapper like you can so informed, yet know how to be rhetorical in how you present your videos. Xd As you know, mapping is very unrealistic and even though it is not mapping video, this video impressed mee! I watched the entire video. I am so happy to stick with you channel this long, and see you evolve into a content creator that is even better at a different genre than mapping! This might be your best video ever, or I don't know actually but I am start to think that is might be the best video you ever made! I even felt goosebumps when you said, "Germany is and will stay one of the leading power in the world in terms of everything and that is something to proud of". Though I am not german nor even have an ounce of german blood in me, Germany seem went trough a lot phases yet today it is even richer than the United Kingdom in terms GDP after the fact that the treaty of versailles ruined Germany in the 1920s.
    I feel like the random rise of nationalist parties might forget that Germany is not pandering state but it is a literal SUPERPOWER of it own. Like the Nationalist have more reason to proud of their country now then worry about the fall of their country because Germany is in much better state now than it ever was before. Like Germany is in charge of the EU (or at least holds a lot of power in EU basing this off my background knowledge). In some ways, they are kind of living the dream the 1940s Germany wanted, but in peaceful, not racist, and actually unifying way which is a Germany that is in charge of Europe and it literally happening in modern times. Germany learned from their past and now a powerful force of it own.
    Asides that, Awesome video. Really informative and I like the EU4 music. I felt nostalgic mapping goosebumps from it as well!

      @@spartanmapping333 it's a joke;
      The joke is funny due to the fact that people in the balkans are stereotypically very angry and aggressive whenever they are confronted to ideas that not work in their own way of thinking, even Otto von Bismarck quoted "the balkans are the powderkrieg of Europe". Because of the still existing ethnic tensions, his explanation of the balkans probably angered many Balkan people and his video might be considered "biased" because of his Serbian nationality, the balkans are also a recurring joke on the World wide web (aka internet).
      My comment doesn't actually show my opinion of him showing his face, wich I am for.
      And the joke was that it is dangerous to express yourself on the balkans and if you show your face people might attack you for your opinion, wich isn't true, because it's a joke that I couldn't let go.

    I am nitpicking, but there are quite a few factual errors in this video. To name a few:
    * The person you showed beside Bismarck (at 26:07) was King William III of England and certainly not Wilhelm I of Prussia/Germany.
    * Hindenburg was Reichspräsident from 1925-1934, not Reichskanzler.
    * The Nuremberg Laws were put into place in 1935, not 1933.
    * Erich Honecker was not "chancellor" of the DDR, but General Secretary of the SED and chairman of the National Defence Council.
    Beside that, you use the word "infamous" way too often and often (in my humble opinion) in a wrong way, e.g. why are Friedrich Nietzsche or Max Weber "infamous" philosophers??
    I really appreciate your effort in making this video, but there are tad too many errors in there.
