- I DID IT! I've been working on this thing since July! Here it is, the long awaited JimAriel video that's I've been editing :D Ariel's dress was just a little irritating to do, but I am now stocked up on Ariel's dress manips :D
Story:
Ariel is in an abusive relationship with Odette. Jim hears the abuse and wants to help Ariel, but she's trying to keep it a secret. After a few persistent attempts to help Ariel, she goes to Jim, just to get away for a little bit; indicating the start of Ariel's recovery and progress.

Odette makes a surprisingly effective villain.

I'm taking a course called Psychology of Gender and we just did a segment on domestic abuse today. We talked about how homosexual couples do not tend to report violence from their partner for reasons such as, people having tendnancies to be thrown off someone is gay, and so talking about abuse could lead to the person listening to judge the victim even more. Other reasons were things such as those who are not "out" yet would be forced to do so if they want to talk about it, and also how support centers are mostly religious based so they could be denied help. So funny that this video was on my recommendations an hour after class! Great and beautiful video!
Oh yeah and another reason are the stereotypes that "women can't hit" and "men can't be victims of assault" so of course that causes a problem with how people view gender when someone talks about domestic violence with same sex couples.

We lived next door to a lesbian couple where one of the women was VERY abusive to her spouse and their children. The abused wife flat out told my mom she wouldn't bother to report, because no one takes her seriously and because of the belief that lgbt members don't abuse kids because they 'chose them' etc etc. It was her mentality and 100% her belief that no one would help her because of it if she asked for help. We REALLY need to change that way of thinking. I also have a friend who was blasted as being a bigot when she tried to report her ex for raping her (he was transitioning to a woman at the time) and accused of lying because "trans people don't rape" Abusers are abusers regardless of sexuality and victims need to be taken seriously no matter their sexuality

REALLY well done! The location feels so authentic, and Ariel's clothes look like they come direct from the animation. My favorite part is where Odette is chasing Ariel because you took a scene where she is tripping (in a completely different outfit, I might add!) and turned into her running in fear. Also you could easily have done this video without Lady, but it adds so much. A great and moving story as well.

Poor Ariel. Wow these were amazing edits/manips. I love how you drew in her dress on some parts and even used Belle and possibly other characters dressed to flourish it. This was amazing work.
Oh Ariel, poor darling; as sad as her situation is, I LOVE how it hopeful it is at the end (hope she is able to break away from Odette someday) and how Jim is the BEST friend she probably never knew she had/needed at the time; and the manips and the head swaps with Ariel are AMAZING!! (:

As much as I hat to see it, its important to show that women can be abusive too, as well as women in same sex relationships removing that stigma

ArielxJim is one of my fave unofficial disney pairings. They just look so darn cute together. Adding Lady as Jim's pet is also perfect.

Oh my gosh. I can’t even explain how good this video is. The editing and blending is just perfect. Everything looks in place and the character motions are done so well and on time. It honestly might be the best multi movie video that I’ve seen. You should be very proud. Keep up the good work!

That was so beautiful! And I really like how you didn't make Ariel cheat with Jim. She just really appreciated his concern and wanted his company. Normally in these manips/edits, Jim is paired with Ariel romantically but they also look amazing as good friends!
They really do, and it also skillfully avoided two tropes I hate:
1. Someone immediately getting over an abusive relationship by starting a new healthy one (not how that works and i know from personal experience)
And
2. Same-sex relationship has horrible ending (for whatever reason: abuse, one of them dies, etc) and then the character that's left finds ✨true love ✨ with someone of the opposite gender (which to be clear can totally happen to bi/pan/etc people irl, but in media it's 99% of the time a homophobic trope).
So i really loved the story for so many reasons
Can I just say, I love that you added the dog character. Something about Lady doing her own thing made all his "deeply troubled thinking" scenes more interesting from a visual standpoint. It made the whole story feel more layered and real. Good story telling choice. :)
Ah this is so well made! The story is very clear and easy to follow, which is a good thing, sometimes crossovers are hard to follow only based on the video and you have to read the description for it to make sense.
I also really like how you included Lady in this story! Good job :)

I think this is one of my favorite nondisney crossovers of all time, I come back to this video a lot. You did a really good job of making sure the inevitable costume changes on Ariel weren't at all distracting (especially when she's "played by" a shot of Belle), the shots flow together easily, and I like the message on how it's important to befriend vulnerable people.

Your use of Lady.... what you can do with an entire song for a music video.... I can’t even! X I liked that it didn’t have to be romance with someone else, that gave Ariel somewhere to go, in that moment (as I know from my life) true friendship can be a godsend... even if it’s just staying for a few hours cuddling the dog!
