This is so beautiful❤❤! ❤In 1996, my father, then 60, walked the camino right from home (Kortrijk België) to Santiago. Now he's 88 and each year he re-travels it via Google maps. It took him 4 months. I believe one of the best periods of his life.
I'm actually from Galicia, Spain. I see pilgrims like you nonstop and every time I like to greet them or wish them a good camino. I'm happy you made it and thanks for appreciating our beautiful landscape!
We are in Cahors, France, having walked 18 days already. You ll find your inner strength and people who are walking with you, who you meet along the way, care how you are feeling. Keep inspiring. Buen Camino.
I just typed in camino de santiago and this was one of the first videos that came up. As a woman who wants to walk it solo, of course I clicked on it. I'm so glad I did! It captured me immediately and now I just want to watch all of your camino videos. Absolutely beautiful shots, filming and how you're talking about your journey is just so beautiful. Thank you Crystal.
Crystal, I love this. I love your reason for taking this journey. I feel that so deeply that it made me cry! It's amazing how we as humans unfold in this life, ever blooming, unfurling, revealing new, secret places unknown even to ourselves. I honor you on your quest. May you find your deepest, truest self. ❤️
Crystal, I am preparing for my first Camino in 2 months time and it won't be a full 800kms like yours, but i would like to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for a genuine sharing you said in your video and about the grace. Your video blessed me, thank you!!
THANK YOU for sharing this, Crystal ❤ It’s such a personal journey and you’re allowing us to come along. 😊 The scenery looks beautiful, even if the weather made it super tough. As you said, at your own pace, this is your journey and you’ll reach your destination. Good tip on the water, although too much is as dangerous as too little I’ve learned (hypernatremia). Drink to thirst and all will be fine. Look forward to day 2! 😊

I have just found your channel and I am loving it.I have walked two sections of the Camino and am now returning to do the whole thing in 4 weeks time.. I cannot wait.
Greetings from our Camino too. We’re currently in Logroño. Well done on that brutal first day climb out of St Jean. We stayed at Borda (1km on from Orisson). Those switchbacks were tough but the views were spectacular. We saw lots of birds of prey soaring in the thermals. You are right about water. We were carrying close to 3 litres each and had probably drunk about 2.5 litres by the time we got to Orisson for lunch. And we had cooler weather on 1st September so I dread to think how much water you needed in much hotter temps. It felt like a massive achievement when we rounded the bend in the road and Orisson came into sight like an oasis in the desert! Buen Camino and maybe see you down the road!
I have already completed my Camino though I wouldv'e loved to 'bump' into you! Congratulations on the switchbacks too! That was such a great introduction for what is to come later on...Buen Camino to you and your walking partner :) !
Oh my gosh what a great chronicle. I just stumbled across your channel and walk - much more to watch. You are so inspiring and remind me of my late Mum who walked the camino from her home in France on her own 3 times before writing a book all about the journey. Thank you for bringing the camino back into focus for our family and inspiring me to think about my own camino one day!
I'm only a few minutes into your video, and this documentation of your "walk" looks like one of the best out there on TH-cam! Don't know if you're using a drone for some of the shots, but you may be stopping, then placing your camera/ gopro/ phone, or whatever you're using, and taking some beautiful shots, including close ups, then grabbing up your camera and walking on - that is a hella work young lady!! @@barushkacranberry Heloo ! Its hard if its cold , foggy ,wet and windy .. trust me lol .Anyway we really enjoyed it despite that . But its not as cold as crossing the Thorong La pass in Nepal when doing the Annapurna back in 2018 .

I struggle with perfectionism and self-consciousness in new situations - and international travel is FULL of new and unpredictable situations! I can't wait for your next video!
Thank you Liz for the kind words :) I have seen people that are 85 years young walk the Camino - You CAN do it! I would suggest training as it will definitely help. I will post a video about this later after the actual vlog series as older with more info-based videos because I think that as we get older it can help tremendously to plan a bit more ahead for physical journeys. Vegetarian is doable on the camino - vegan is NOT so much. I am putting together a few food-based vlogs on this too I trust will be helpful for you! BUEN CAMINO :)
Great video. The first stage through the Pyrenees is not a joke 🤣, big puch straight away. I did a long day from Saint Jean, through the Orrison where I stopped for lunch and moved on to the other side of the mountains. My first stop was in Espinal. I think I was a bit overconfident, but made it. Tough day but beautiful 😍
In the hot weather, those Keen gortex walking boots are likely to cook your feet. I would consider changing them for something much more breathable aa soon as you can. There are at ĺeast 2 good outdoor gear shops in Pamplona.. Good luck and Buen Camino to you.
Thank you! I got new shoes! It wasn't the gortex that ended up being the issue but the ankle area rubbed me wrong. Bruised my ankle pretty bad (which you'll see in the upcoming vlogs). Buen Camino!
What a great video, we feel all of your feels too as fellow pilgrims. We finished our 4th pilgrimage last summer, it was on the Via Francigena. We will walk the Camino Frances for the 3rd time again this summer. Buen Camino! - Michelle & Brian
That first day's climb is super hard! Well done, we walked from SJPDP to Pamplona in 2019 and it was wonderful!! Starting in Pamplona on 12th Sept and walking to Logrono this time. Can't wait! Enjoy😎
May 18th and a heat wave just began. 2 weeks prior to my start date it was snowing. May is generally the best time to start this walk. Just keep your eye on the weather as it changes every year.
I'm going to hike the Camino Frances in September. When did you do it? What shoes were you wearing? They looked really nice. I'm also thinking about taking a drone! All the best! Kaat
I am looking forward to your videos, but your luggage amount is nuts! Maybe you can do a packing video at the end of what is actually useful in your pack.
WILL DO! I packed a lot because I had no idea when I was coming back to the states and I have camera equipment to film but I def overpacked LOL. Thanks for watching :)
About 4 - but that is with small breaks very frequently as it was VERY hot so I was mindful of going too fast. I would've started earlier had a really thought about the elevation / heat more thoroughly.
Hi Crystal. When you arrived at Orisson Refuge, had you booked ahead for a room? Or you just took the risk of checking in and got a room available on arrival? I’m watching the episode now but just wanted to check. Thanks, Victoria
This is the only place on this route you must book ahead or you will not get a room, at CB least to my knowledge. Even if you book nothing else book this one far in advance! I booked this 4 months prior to my arrival.
Hi, I’m thinking about doing the trail in stages in feb 23, my father recently passed away, was looking away to connect us as we enjoyed walks, can you break down your expenses as you travelling. Travelling alone.
Thank you Jennifer! I got it from a little shop that sells Turkish Towels and rugs in a town in Washington State BUT you can get the towels o etsy or Amazon. Just search for TURKISH TOWELS. You can also find the link in the shop on our website here: www.vanhalla.life/shop/#eco-travel

What did you do with the large duffle bag, the large backpack and the small carry-on you had in your travel video? I leave NY on Sept 4 to start my 1st Camino Frances.
How exciting! Buen Camino :) I have my large duffel transferred each night to my next stop via a luggage transport. I used PILBEO and love them. $7 a day for it. Everything else I had held and sent forward to Santiago to pick up at the end. I HIGHLY suggest luggage transport if you can budget it. I had to due to camera equipment which I am realizing I brought far too much of anyways.
I walked mid May - mid-July. This particular may happened to have heat waves during the latter part but it had just snowed 2 weeks before I began. I think if I did it again I’d walk during the same time or possibly a week sooner.
Hi Crystal .. your posts look like you were right behind us ... what day did you start walking from Saint Jean ? Our first day was 26th May ... empathy for your ankle .. I fell big style heading down the rocky path to Zubiri .. ouch !!!
This was filmed in Mid May for this particular portion though the whole trail was Mid May - Mid July for me. I stayed at Gite Compostella for several days prior to leaving. It was very calm and had a nice kitchen and great owners. She even picked me up from the airport too!

2 weeks prior to my start date it was snowing.
May is generally the best time to start this walk. Just keep your eye on the weather as it changes every year.
Love your videos and I’m so inspired. I also love your hat? Can u share where you purchased it?
Great first video….go for it!!
Thank you !!!
Just started to watch the video and i´m already nostalgic because in 2019 i stayed exactely on the same place the first nigth (Gite Compostela) 😁
Awww I’m so happy this brought back memories for you ❤️
Curious what equipment you brought with you to film with? What size tripod? what kind of cameras? Thanks!
Beautiful video! 😍
Thank you!
The country is so Beautiful.
I feel so grateful for this experience :) It is so beautiful!
Good job! For how many hours did you walk the first day?
About 4 - but that is with small breaks very frequently as it was VERY hot so I was mindful of going too fast. I would've started earlier had a really thought about the elevation / heat more thoroughly.
Nice job! great documentary.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing , just curious , who records your journey
I record it myself 🤓
Hi there Crystal...Kay and I walked from April 26 to June 10. I was wondering when you did this walk...(or are doing this walk)?
I am complete now though I walked from mid May - mid July.
How amazing! You are wonderful!
Aw thanks Doreen!
Hi, I’m thinking about doing the trail in stages in feb 23, my father recently passed away, was looking away to connect us as we enjoyed walks, can you break down your expenses as you travelling. Travelling alone.
May I ask how you shot these videos and what your tech gear was and camera??
Get it girl!! you are doing an amazing job. Love your towel, where did you get it?
Thank you Jennifer! I got it from a little shop that sells Turkish Towels and rugs in a town in Washington State BUT you can get the towels o etsy or Amazon. Just search for TURKISH TOWELS. You can also find the link in the shop on our website here: www.vanhalla.life/shop/#eco-travel
@@vanhallaadventures thank you very much! I will look them up :) sending you strength and encouragement on your trail. I look forward to the next video
I look forward to biking El Camino with my family. Thank you for sharing your ideas & experiences. Cheers!
That will be such a beautiful experience. Buen Camino ! ✨ (and thank you)
I stayed in the same place as you my one night in SJPP! I started August 14, 2021 at about 7 a.m. local time.
Much better than my 8:30 start time 🙈
@@vanhallaadventures Well, I ended up going all the way to Roncevalles and was pretty tired by the time I arrived around 8 p.m.
Thank you for sharing the drone experience, someday when I can go my own camino, I also want to carry a drone, I would like to see my own silhouette on Camino.
Beautiful hike and view!
Thank you!
Great video! It was great meeting you in Foncebadon! 😁
Aahhhh I remember you! I love that you have a profile picture that I recognize. One of the biggest blessings from this journey is getting to re-connect with everyone. How are you?!
Feel free to email me instead of writing back here hello@vanhalla.life (I’d love to hear from you!)
Wow 🤩
I’m very proud of you girl 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
i was looking for your video everywhere. finally i found it. so good to meet you. dont know if you'll remember me tho
AHHH! Yes totally! I sent you a message on whatsapp but not sure you ever got it. I actually was wondering how your Camino went :) SO SO Happy to hear from you!
@@vanhallaadventures i didnt get it :(. but i had really good camino. definetely one of the best experiences so far. hope ill meet you again eventually
Hello thank u for the video! can you please post your itinerary with the stops?
What did you do with the large duffle bag, the large backpack and the small carry-on you had in your travel video? I leave NY on Sept 4 to start my 1st Camino Frances.
How exciting! Buen Camino :) I have my large duffel transferred each night to my next stop via a luggage transport. I used PILBEO and love them. $7 a day for it. Everything else I had held and sent forward to Santiago to pick up at the end. I HIGHLY suggest luggage transport if you can budget it. I had to due to camera equipment which I am realizing I brought far too much of anyways.
If u want to walk on camino frances but want to make it short. Can u recomended it from what town for the best view? Burgos, leon, or ponfenrada ?
Thanks for the video. I was wondering what time of the year did you do it?
I walked mid May - mid-July. This particular may happened to have heat waves during the latter part but it had just snowed 2 weeks before I began. I think if I did it again I’d walk during the same time or possibly a week sooner.
Buen Camino....be strong..🥰 ,your Camino Will help you...😊
Thank you Luka!
Hi Crystal .. your posts look like you were right behind us ... what day did you start walking from Saint Jean ? Our first day was 26th May ... empathy for your ankle .. I fell big style heading down the rocky path to Zubiri .. ouch !!!
Oh no! That area can be so treacherous!
I left on May 18th from SJPDP.
Oh you were a week in front ! ... if only we'd left earlier, we could've enjoyed paella with you !
Love this and following!! Where did you stay in SJPDP? And what month did you do this walk (looks like summer?)
This was filmed in Mid May for this particular portion though the whole trail was Mid May - Mid July for me. I stayed at Gite Compostella for several days prior to leaving. It was very calm and had a nice kitchen and great owners. She even picked me up from the airport too!
