- Paris is preparing to hold the Olympics this summer, but did you know that the last time the French capital hosted the Games was exactly 100 years ago? Much has been forgotten about the 1924 Olympics, but records were broken, champions were made and more women athletes took part than ever before. FRANCE 24's Stéphanie Trouillard and Claire Paccalin went to see what’s left of the 1924 Olympic stadiums and find out which ones will be used again in the Games this year.

I noticed the moment that Paris would host the 2024 olympics after it was announced in 2017, and upon looking back at the 1924 Olympic Games, I was stunned to find out it's coming back again to Paris 100 years later after Paris hosted the olympics in 1924. It's incredible to see how much has changed over the past 130 years since Paris in 1900 and 1924.

My grandfather was on the French cycling team, he won a team gold and an individual bronze in Paris 1924. My dad competed in Melbourne '56, in Modern Pentathlon. The olympics are always a big deal in our family, but nowadays, it's disappointing, it's gotten political and ladden with doping, i don't plan on watching.

Weren't they the seventh Olympics rather than the eighth?
Even thought they were cancelled, the 1916 games known as the Games of the VI Olympiad keep it's name and remain officially the 6th olympic games edition.
The only Summer Olympic Games that were cancelled was in 1916, 1940, and 1944. After 1944, the olympics continues to this very day. Although It would be weird for World War III to break out at some point in the future, and end up cancelling the 2028, 2032, and 2036 olympics due to war. And considering that Russia is no longer allowed to participate in future olympics, and the issues between Isreal and the Middle East, hopefully no horrific incidents (Like the one in 1972 Germany Athletes Hostage Issue), occurs during the entire thing of the 2024 olympics. What's funny is that Tomorrowland next door to France is occuring on the second weekend, around the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
