I wasted so much conduit because I didn’t understand the deduction but now I understand make your first measurement to where you want it end up and deduct the amount from there for the 90 bend. I was making bend and just cutting lengths down as needed, not economical but I’m not an electrician either. Ran 3/4 off the panel as home run into the 1900 box and then 1/2 to the condenser disconnect.
You're saying the same thing, it's just a phrasing thing. He says on one side of his pipe is his box, which is his starting point, and he's got 36 inches of travel from that box to a wall. The wall is his obstruction, as you put it. Box is just an example of what would be at the "start" side. Could've also been his last coupling or whatever. But he is as you put it (I paraphrase) "bending toward his obstruction". Hook end of tape measure goes to the side of the pipe that will be inserted into the last fixed piece of hardware (box connector, coupling) then he measures out 36" to the wall that the pipe will run into. Totally workable.
Thanks for the easy to follow instructions.

Very Nice Concept
Thank you!
Awesome!! :)
Thank you!
I was taught to put my other foot on the conduit so it doesn’t move. For anyone who’s new.
Thanks
You're welcome!
You always bend to your obstruction. Idk why you say box on the other end and bend the opposite way
