What is a Charango?
A Charango, is a South American instrument originating from the Andean region of countries. It has 5 sets of strings which are doubled, making this an instrument with 10 strings in total. Some Charango's are made out of Armadillo shells, while others are made out of wood.

Fantastic tutorial!! Never thought I would find one in English that showed so many great progressions!! Thank you!
Wow amazing! Which chord progression are you demonstrating at 2:47 ?
Nice video mang!
Absolute hero
Saw a guitarist playing one on Juanes' ACL performance- incredible musician.
Great video, I just got this instrument, I was wondering is there chord chart that I can find that is useful for beginners. Thank you 🙏
A couple of questions: where do you get this, and is the chord fingering similar to that of a ukulele? Thanks! Neat instrument, never heard of it before.
I bought mine from a guy that was travelling to South America often so he would resell them in North America. There are websites you can order them from South America, the price ranges from 300-600USD on average. Some of the chords are similar to a Ukulele since the tunings are similar (g-C-E-A) vs (G-C-E-A-E)
Please make more like this
Woow that sounds soo good man! I cant believe it!
Where do I get one and it does it use metal strings?
These are typically imported from South America, the strings are all nylon, a specific set made for Charango. If you are interested let me know, I have a nice Charango for sale for $350 USD plus shipping!
@gitbad what i want is a ukulele sized steel string guitar or guitar like instrument.
@@MissionSilo it sounds like you are looking for something like a mandolin! They are quite nice sounding, with steel strings that are double up, using a violin tuning.
@@gitbadDoes this Charango you sell sound as great as the charango in the Video? :D
@@der_djumi_music Yes it really does, they look very similar too, made by the same company I believe! Are you interested?
Where do you plug it in 🔌
Is this a cross between a mandolin and a uke?
That's an interesting idea - it's definitely similar to a mandolin and ukelele, but still has it's own unique tuning and sound, plus the history of it being a south American instrument.
I actually have a Lanikai 8 string ukulele. GCEA tuning, so if it had one more higher course of strings, it'd be about like this.
That's a good point, the tuning is more similar than I realized!
Have never seen a double string ukulele before! Seems it could be heavenly to hear.
