- This is my unboxing and review of the 2020 Nerf Rival Takedown Blaster. This blaster will retail for $19.99 and is available NOW. www.target.com...
This is a pump action, spring powered rival blaster that does not require batteries of any kind. This blaster has no deco, no sling points, and has 2 tac rails. The blaster is breech loaded and fires one round at a time. The blaster has an 8 round capacity. The blaster averaged at or above 90fps, as advertised on the box.
We assume the blaster will also be offered in BLUE but as of the time of this video it has never been seen in blue, including on the packaging back.

nerf: remove all the paint so they can't complain.
People also love to custom paint, so nerf knows that they will likely not use the stock paint job anyway

The Kronos is, really, a fairly big sidearm. I'd rather have this holstered to my leg for a backup.

Well, like the Charger, I am so excited to see the release the closest thing to a Nerf Rival Roughcut. I love seeing that blaster and it looks perfect for my nerf war play style. You and the other Nerf TH-camrs are so inspiring. So inspiring that starting in the summer of 2020 I will be starting my own Nerf channel and it'll be all thanks to you guys. legitbread I just got it for 15 dollars
I only got into Nerf a few weeks ago, and already I've bought four blasters myself, and convinced a bunch of friends to buy some as well. Blasters like the takedown are perfect for people like me - we're not looking to spend a ton of money on something like a Prometheus, but would rather have a bunch of really simple, really fun blasters to play some games with like TTT, that aren't really performance focussed but more about psychology, deception, etc.
Plus, simple as these blasters are, they're a great segway into modding! I don't mind these simple paintjobs, as I'd much rather give them a personal coat of paint instead!
My story is similar to yours except for the fact that once I really got back into Nerfing, I've amassed $400+ worth of Nerf blasters for less than $70 thanks to Goodwill and other related stores near me being Nerf blaster goldmines.
Given that this and the charger are budget blasters, There are some pricing patterns I'vs noticed that I thing would be useful information here: If you look at Target and Walmart, almost across the board they are selling their blasters at least 20% below MSRP. Even the Perses, which is this year's hottest nerf blaster that has flown of the shelves of a lot of stores, is going for $70-80 at most stores when the official price started at $100. Some of the less popular blasters like the Hera and Apollo are usually discounted at a much higher rate. I predict that as soon as walmart gets their hand on these new blasters, they will price the takedown and charger at $16 and $28, respectively, to try and one-up target. At which point target will lower their prices to match walmart.
I actually bought a Perses around cyber Monday week for $50ish at a local best buy as they made the mistake of buying too many and had a brief day where they were on clearance to make more shelf room. Really fun to use but I'd prefer the Charger more simply because I can fire fast as is with semi-auto flywheels already and you don't have to worry about holding the trigger too long.

I am SO EXCITED to get one of these! I just love the form factor! I do appreciate the minimalist paint job, makes it easier to think of a unique repaint design instead of having predetermined lines and patterns sway your decision.
I commented on the charger and said how I want a 1 day late birthday suprise as I am 13 turning fourteen on Jan 14 and have wanted a rival but they’re too expensive for my family and I want I rival so I can see how they function love your vids and brings me so much joy knowing I have a reliable source for my nerf reviews

The only reason why Reaper's blaster cost more than the Takedown is because the license that Hasbro is using
I love that this blaster is red, because when you throw a stronger spring from ACE Hardware in it, this packs a serious punch with only the red color to warn you.
This can shoot 2 rounds, you load one, then hold down the yellow unjamming switch which will release the pump grip so you can load another round in the chamber.

I like the idea of budget Rival. As long as the performance doesn’t suffer I’m ok with less deco if it costs less.

Love it! I am a springer fan, and this one fits right in my load out. If i had one, i would add two white stripes myself with a little bit of spray paint.
This blaster is really cool and maybe a little better than the kronos. Three more rounds almost the same size and a better priming system. Im sold Jared, merry xmas and happy new year

Colour and decals don't really affect a purchase, as most of the time, people mod/paint their blasters to make them more personalised.

The reason, I’m sure you are rhetorical when asking, is that the overwatch branding brings in a wider variety of buyers, therefore increasing the demand of the blaster. Nerf resizes this and thus exponentially increase the price. IMO hasbro has been to concerned with appearances and marketing not so much with the functionality of the blaster. They did this with the ultra one, and I disagreed with you very strongly on your opinion of the blaster. However the ultra series and the overwatch line are both designed intently on visual stellarity and not on performance and functionality. Hasbro most of the time are greed money hungry bastards not afraid to sell their souls in order to make a quick buck. Occasionally the dev team will make something that the market dep. like and this we get good rival guns.
I like the Takedown a lot in concept; I'm just team blue and Phantom Corps all the way, to date. So I'm really hoping they come out with a blue one!
Nice simple blaster. I myself am more inclined towards springers because I cannot be bothered with the batteries, rechargeable or otherwise.
Honestly I think for these "lower end" rival blasters no paint will be the norm. They've been straying away from intricate paint jobs since 2012

I don't hate the Takedown - it's no frills, and should have the reliability of any good sidearm or secondary. And doesn't have the 'Overwatch tax' on top too.
And if Hasbro can keep its prices reasonable for lack of adding stripes (or more likely, as a way to recoup flagging sales of Ultra!) then I like the new cosmetic direction.

My Takedown arrives here on Monday and this review got me more excited about it! You're right, it does seem Hasbro cut some corners with the packaging and paint. They could have done more with the pump grip. I can see that maybe being an issue. Especially since I will be putting a bigger spring in there.

Looks awesome. I agree, it does seem a little plain without the stripes. Waiting to see if it comes in blue (and the charger in red).
I'd recently started a local nerf club (I bought a bunch of Kronos blasters on black friday to use as loaners at my events) and IMO, I think this blaster will take the place of the Kronos as the best budget or entry-level rival springer! It's about the same price, much easier to prime, and holds 60% more shots. We all know NERF likes to mark up their initial MSRP a bit, so I wouldn't be surprised if we regularly see them at walmart for more like $16 or even on sale for $10-13. I'll have to get my hands on a bunch of these soon so I can invite more people to my NERF events.

Great blaster got mines last week, pretty accurate. Great price point, and great feel when holding it. I highly recommend it.
I can't wait for the release of this and the charger in stores because I will probably be getting multiples of them both.. for my family nerf battles.. my wife and daughter are team blue but my son and I are team red.. go team red!!!

Actually I’m pretty sure there is a way to fire 2 balls at a time. That indicator is actually a un-jam button, so if you press it it allows you to prime the blaster again, so you can fire 2 balls at a time

Great blaster, great performance, well within my budget love to get it. Have not found it in uk yet, same for knockout, hopeing they are available soon as it's annoying having to wait longer over here to get things like this as they are great. All in all great video.
