Several times in a year, The historical island of Lamu comes alive with festivals that attract visitors in masses. The Lamu Cultural Festival is one of the best attended community-based cultural festivals in Kenya. One of the highlights of the event is the Donkey Race, a competition that stems from the culture of the Lamu people. I visited Lamu to find out the growth of this traditional sport, and how local donkey owners prepare for the race. Enjoy.
