As a Norfolk boy I can tell you most local people around here avoid Yarmouth, particularly in the summer. It is very busy , rundown and has a bit of a threatening atmosphere in places. However, I do accept that many people love it, with all it's faults. If you want to see the real seaside Norfolk visit the beaches of Holkham, Brancaster or Old Hunstanton where beautiful sand abounds. There are lovely sea side resorts like Cromer, Sheringham , Sunny Hunny and even nearby Gorleston to visit. There are many areas where you can be by yourself on a lovely beach , but I'm not going to tell you where they are haha.. If you fancy a bit of culture/shopping then Norwich has many historic buildings including a very impressive Norman Castle and a modern shopping centre. Inland we have lovely rolling countryside in north Norfolk as well as the beautiful Broads and sandy Brecklands. There is a lot to see and much variation , so just a bit of research will bring it all to light. Thank you Lucy for being kind about this area.
I loved your county. Thanks so much for all the recommendations, I have written them down for when I return because I will - left my heart there! I wished I had weeks as I could tell there was so much to explore and enjoy. I was on the way to Cromer when I stopped at Happisburgh but unfortunately a phone call meant I had to head back home .. need to scratch that itch ❤️
Hi Lucy I just found your channel and I'm busy binge watching so many episodes as I absolutely LOVE what you are putting up. I'm a black country girl and proud to be working class so I'm so interested in your content. I too love travel and social history. I just wanted to say that this episode bought back so many memories of going on caravan holidays to Great Yarmouth with my family. Especially when I saw the snail ride...I got so excited as this was the highlight of my summer going on that ride as a little girl!! Thank you Lucy...you opened the door on some memories that had been hidden for many years. Keep up the great work 👍
Hi Lisa! Thanks for your lovely feedback, I enjoy creating videos SO much and I'm always so flattered .. and flabbergasted that people watch them! I love history but it's social history that always really gets under my skin so I'm Glad you enjoyed it .. and I laughed all around the snails - wasn't expecting them to be so snappy 😂
Don't apologize for the coffee comments. I think it's a really cool feature, and a nice way of doing something beyond subscribing, liking, and watching. Glad you added it.
"They pull something from your childhood and make you happy" Yes❤ for me, it's Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast in USA. Almost 50 years later and my mind still goes there whenever I eat taffy. Loved this one!
Thank you, it's the same for me. Some days my dad would just wake up and take us to the sea side as a surprise just for one day, those days hold the best memories for me, I could cry thinking about it - happy tears!
Never been to this part of the country. After watching your trip I definitely want to now. You bring everything to life and research and explain things so clearly. So much packed into this beautiful place. Thanks so much for sharing. Just loved it.
Thank you for your tour Lucy. I used to go to Yarmouth as a child, have lovely memories. I went a couple of years ago and was so disappointed to see the wonderful WinterGardens crumbling before our very eyes. I was so happy when you said they are refurbishing it. It’s such an amazing building I can’t wait to see it. Thank you.
I am so glad they are refurbishing it too! It would be an absolute travesty to watch it rot any further, it is in quite a sorry state and sad to see. I really enjoyed Great Yarmouth though and I'm very much looking forward to going back!
I’m so pleased you had such a lovely time here. This was such comfort viewing for me. The model village nearly made me sob the memory of visiting there was so vivid. Never be weird about the coffee thing - you work bloody hard That pic of you and baby Rupert at the end 🥰 Love you beauties
I managed to transfer on my feet all day today without using my board - first time I’ve done that consistently since having the brace! We will get it sorted asap xx
I live in Suffolk and there are so many places I have never been. Love your videos. I completely understand about the Kofi, I struggled with the decision but sometimes, people just want to share the love and pay it forward. Big hugs x
Thanks Tracie - your channel is amazing! Hooked now - so relaxing! It's a funny one isn't it, I guess because I have lived before .. and during the social media boom it all feels a bit off the concept of getting paid for your work that it almost a hobby - but you know yourself it takes a very long time to do these videos. I appreciate it when it happens but also always feel a bit guilty! x
Really enjoyed this as somebody who lives about 5 miles from Happisburgh (in North Walsham) and regularly enjoys trips to Great Yarmouth. I love the area and lovely to hear somebody from outside the area appreciating it too. Thank you.
I'm so envious of you living there, I loved it. The thing that really stuck out to me was how friendly everyone we met was, to me, to my dog - just totally different to what I am used to. It was refreshing! And I'll be back :)
Thank you for another wonderful video, Lucy. I love seeing all the over the top rides and souvenirs, especially when they’ve been entertaining people for so long. I hope we’ll one day get a video of the Winter Garden when it’s restored. Thank you for the day by the sea! I hope you do get your own beach hut one day.
Oh yes I hope so! I cannot wait for that winter gardens to reopen, it's going to be gorgeous. Maybe I should do my garden shed like a little beach hut? 😍
Thank you for this, I love Great Yarmouth. As a child we used to stay at south denes caravan park, it was just past the pleasure beach and right on the front, one step down and you were on the beach. I have a photo somewhere of me as a child on the snail ride. All of Norfolk is beautiful but you need to visit North Norfolk. Cromer, Hunstanton and Wells, they all have slightly different characters but are just magical seaside places. Hunstanton has a lighthouse you can stay in and a brilliant heritage centre. It also has beach huts and some are just incredible, you could live in them. I could go on forever about how brilliant Norfolk is and I hope you manage to see loads of it, the trips will be well worth it.
I can't wait to go back - I was en route to Cromer when we stopped off at the light house but my cat sitter called and I had to get home - I honestly cannot wait to go back!
Love this trip, what a beautiful place! Yes, you will have to return as the Winter Gardens will look glorious with a little TLC. I love the model village! That beach with the colourful sheds and the grasses on the dunes looks so peaceful. Thanks for taking us along on another great outing!
You are always so welcome, I love having you come along. I keep thinking about that beach with the beach huts, it's certainly my current happy place :)
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Yarmouth and the area. I'm a 'Yarco' born & bred and proud to be so. Yes the town has lost its way a little since the heady days of the 50's & 60's but it's still a Great place. Come back soon and enjoy more of what our town And Norfolk has to offer.
Hi Lucy - yet another fabulous video. I had a friend in Caister on sea, and whenever I went up there, at least twice a year, we always went along to Great Yarmouth. I love 'people watching' and GY is a great place for that. I love the place - so full of surprises. The faded grandeur of some of it has a charm of its own, then there are the areas now being tidied up and made more beautiful. So much history there - if you bother to look, and the coast line and beaches are lovely. Lowestoft is another lovely place too - there is a brilliant Kipper Smokers there, and plenty of fresh Kippers were bought and consumed eagerly. Norfolk has something for everyone, be it the Broads or the hustle and bustle of GY. Keep up the good work Lucy - thanks for taking us along on your adventures. Take care 🙂 X X
This was a place I went to with my parents back in the day. It’s was lovely to see it again. Brings back very happy memories. Thank you for your tours. Awesome🐞
Thanks once again for this vicarious vacation, Lucy! Never been to that side of the UK on my (all too infrequent) visits from Down Under. Don't worry about a video not being "of houses" - your passion and fascination for social history ensures that whatever you record, is interesting - and I'm sure your subscribers enjoy and appreciate that!!! Now, off to find that Kofi button :) RjB
You are so kind, thank you!!! Yeah I think the East gets left out a bit - I was the same, it felt too far, too remote, not easy enough to get to - and that's probably why it's so lovely as it's pretty unspoilt - lucky people. I really am going to throw you all a curve ball next Sunday - watch this space ;)
Thanks Lucy for posting this lovely video, i will always love Great Yarmouth as i went there every year with my family and had the best holidays ever! I've been back several times with my own family and it still has got that specialness, thanks for sharing this wonderful video, much appreciated ❤️👍
Very welcome. I really liked it there. Always makes me sad when I see "reviews" of places people love that are negative. Nothing but nice things for me there!
Me too! I love to think about all those people who saved so hard for their holiday at places like Great Yarmouth and I just think these places have so much personality xx
Lucy that was great, I would certainly pay a visit there. The beach looks amazing & those little sheds would be perfect instead of having to load the car up. I’m so glad they are investing in the restoration of that huge glass exhibition venue. It will look awesome. Lucky you seeing the sailing ship, definitely not for the weak hearted working on one of those! Thank you & once again for a very enjoyable video 🤗🥰
The ship was such a bit of luck! We were driving into Great Yarmouth and I spotted it on the horizon. That's what I love about my adventures I never really plan, just see where the wind takes me :)
Thank you for another great video. I went to Great Yarmouth and Happisburgh as a child but didn't really appreciate them. One thing that did stick was a person who told me Happisburgh was pronounced Hayes borough. If you do rent the lighthouse cottage you can impress the locals with your pronunciation 😅😅😅
I had a feeling I was probably saying it wrong, a definite Worcester moment! I should have thought of that lovely Norfolk accent and that would have made sense :)
You are magic, I love trailing around with you on your trips and if I was in England I would be spending a lot of time in Great Yarmouth and surrounds. You can feel the history just looking at it. All places have run down areas. Often those run down areas are taken on and made into elite places, duh, lol. Thank you again, take care =-)
Very welcome, you would love the Norfolk Coast, it's so beautiful! And yes everywhere has the good and bad, I always like to see the good stuff even in the worst places you can find good people x
Sorry I’m so late watching this lovely, I got hit with a helluva 🤢 bug over the weekend - just about starting to feel human again I’m excited for this one, Great Yarmouth holds so many lovely memories for me. You’re right about Weston too though - Dad used to take us on random day trips there all the time. Good times 💜❤️
That's so frustrating! I had a travelling tea party business for 5 years, I visited so many amazing places but only saw the inside of a premier inn and a conference venue - it's sooo frustrating!
That was such an interesting video, thank you so much for the way you have included lots of history bits and made it come to life. Glad I found your channel. 😊😉
A great video and well presented, makes me want to revisit Great Yarmouth, lots to see there. You should visit the North Norfolk Coast too and Norwich. Lots of places to visit. Thank you again.
Very welcome, I desperately want to go back to the county now - it was fantastic and unexpected how much I loved it too - watch this space I'll be back for sure :)
Hello Lucy, thank you so much for your beautiful, nostalgic and spooky visit to Great Yarmouth. I love your channel, it's so unlike. Regards from Montevideo (very cold these days).😊
Another super video Lucy love how you take us places especially as some of us can’t get around anymore. I especially loved the model village the caravan site lol. Thanks for you positivity. Best wishes 🥰
Very very welcome! The model village is brilliant isn't it? Couldn't stop thinking about how much time those models must have taken to make and upkeep. I also love the miniature caravan site! ❤️
This looks like a great place to wander around on one's own. I sometimes like to just go off by myself and not worry if my traveling companion is bored or tired or hungry. I could wander and linger where my attention was held. Maybe someday!
This is why I love going it alone. I don't have to - but sometimes it's just nice isn't it? I was out and about today and no one was thirsty or tired .. except me! It's been liberating x
I love the fact it felt "old but new" there's still the shadow of so many lovely old buildings and the atmosphere was old fashioned too - absolutely loved it and can't wait to visit Norfolk again :)
A friend introduced me to East Anglia back in the 90s, and it was definitely love at first sight - I think Southwold is still my favourite place. Like you, I absolutely love beach huts and lighthouses - Southwold has both! I’m fortunate enough to live in another of our great seaside resorts - Bournemouth. British seaside towns are wonderfully varied, but they all have that lovely seaside architecture, and it’s almost as if the history of all those happy holidays is etched into the stones. Keep up the good work Lucy, and don’t feel bad about the coffee! (Actually, you’d be such a great person to sit and have a real live coffee and chat with!) x
Aww that's made my day. Thank you. I really do love a good chat!!!! Southwold is on my list now, after a quick google the longing to visit is real! I've never been to Bournemouth either - that is shocking!! I have some plans to head south this summer so hopefully can change that :)
@@throughlucyslens I was thinking that you’d probably love Southwold - very different to Great Yarmouth (more ‘up market’!), but it has some great history - oh, and of course Adnams, the carbon neutral brewery! Bournemouth is great - though suffering from the same town centre decline as everywhere else, but we have 7 miles of lovely coastline 💜
Very welcome, it's funny when people say I have a nice voice because in general the Brummie accent isn't very popular and i've always been a bit embarrassed about that even though I am a proud Birmingham citizen - so thank you!
The Snails ❤❤❤❤ If you come back definitely go to the Time and Tide museum, it is fabulous. Also try the Venetian Waterways (along the promenade north of Joyland). If you like gardens, East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens is really near to Happisbugh (pronounced Hazeborough). Last but not least, take a trip into Norwich, it is lovely, two cathedrals, a castle, large open market and many iconic buildings
I am gutted I didn't get to the go to the Venetian Waterways! If I was there on a normal filming trip I would have been right in there but I was away with family and that wasn't on the list of things everyone wanted to do - I will certainly be going back though and I love Norwich! I have only been once for work but I went around the Cathedral and fell in love instantly as they had a resident cat :)
Totally worth it, I think I could do with a few months break before my next mission down the A47 that road never ended .. and no little chefs anymore. What is a girl to do! ❤️
great yarmouth looked very nice plenty to do 😀i never had sea side holidays as a kid but when i had my children.... we had some lovely sea side holidays 😄🤣🤗
I am always doing things I wanted to do when I was a kid too - I need to go to Skegness, for some reason I was really jealous of my friends that went - even though I've heard it's a bit run down these days I just HAVE to go! x
Hi Lucy, new sub here. I live in Great Yarmouth and would like to say Thankyou for this video. To many GY bashers out there. A lot of money has been and is continuing to be spent here. The Winter Gardens will soon be once again the pride of the seafront. Take care
Thanks so much for the sub, it's so appreciated! Well I LOVED it - I take places on face value and don't go looking for grotty places (lets face it they are in every town), I was impressed with how beautiful it was, and the thing that really did strike me was how FRIENDLY everyone we met was there, stopped for a chat and a real sense of community - cannot wait to see the Winter Gardens back to their former glory, I will certainly be returning in the future x
Lovely video as always you make your videos so interesting. It was also lovely to see Rupert with you. You know when it is said that people can resemble their dogs. Well you and Rupert are like two peas in a pod. You know what I mean, so I sincerely hope I haven't offended you. But you look so cute together. ❤❤
I am not offended at all, Rupert is an eccentric looking little thing with bags of energy and I think we match perfectly! Thanks for coming with me over to Yarmouth, I am desperate to get back to Norfolk this year :)
Living in gt yarmouth I would say thank you for a very unbiased review that captured gt yarmouth during the summer perfectly and the fact you loved south quay was brilliant as most of the reviews I’ve seen totally ignores it
Hello, you are very welcome, I always approach a place with an unbiased view, I believe everywhere has it's merits and I really did like GY. South Quay is amazing - what a joy! I can't wait to go back and really explore the lanes x
Spent some time in Gorleston on Sea a few years ago, loved it there. Great Yarmouth looks fab. I’ve got a massive love for beach huts. So romantic! Thanks Lucy.
@@throughlucyslens We've got beach huts all down the Suffolk coast, Felixstowe is full of them. Living in this area and working in Gorleston, I have the opposite reaction when I go to Devon/Cornwall - those trips remind me of childhood.
I went last year to Markham and Hemsby it was wonderful.. we kept it very simply and only had 2 nights , we got their Friday eve and left Sunday lunchtime. I could happily spend a week there, just a beautiful place to be. We stayed in a beautiful cottage in Markham it's inland but perfect for our dog to enjoy safely ❤️ great video thank you
I'm desperate to go back! I wish I could teleport because I found the drive heavy going - if I do it again will pencil in lots of breaks and make a day of it :)
@throughlucyslens definitely make use of an overnight if you can do, it's such a lovely place to be.. and of course Sandringham is also near to the area
From a Norfolk inhabitant I thank you for this awesome video. You nailed the emotions seaside resorts can muster. Such a shame you were not able to visit Time and Tide museum, its a gem, you would have loved it. There is a Row model set up complete with models and noises of how the houses would have been. Also, a cheeky point, but not your fault as there are plenty of weird spellings in Norfolk, Happisburgh is pronounced "Haze-bruh (just in case you come back this way)
Hey! I am honestly so looking forward to returning! I had a feeling I was probably saying it wrong, you know in your gut? But next time I'll be speaking like a true local :) Love your county. It's truly special ❤️
So many people prefer to go abroad when there's so much of this country and it's history that has to offer us. I was from the south east and as a child always holidayed on the south coast, south west or over to the isle of whight. We recently moved to the midlands and are discovering lots of new and interesting places as well as coastlines. Cromer and Wells next to sea are nice coastlines in Norfolk. Just wished we had moved and explored up this way when we were a bit younger.
Hi Lucy. I love seaside places. Southend in Essex is where I spent time in my childhood. The pier there goes on for nearly a mile. If you ever get the chance, do visit. I really enjoyed the video. Thank you 😊
Love this video. New to the channel. Glad you liked Yarmouth as it gets a lot of flack and undeservedly so. But you should definitely come back to Norfolk there is lots to explore (I am a resident). Would highly recommend a trip to North Norfolk. Cromer Pier, Holkham Beach is absolutely stunning. Wells Next to Sea for more beach huts! (and fish n chips) Norwich is also a lovely city with a lot of character and history (if you like viewpoints visit Ketts Heights it's a bit of hidden gem). PS did chuckle at how you said Happisburgh as it's pronounced Haysbrough it's one of our quirky place names... Will look into more of your videos.
Hey! I think it's so lazy to run places down, fair enough if you have lived there forever and had a terrible time but to just turn up and follow the same old same old rhetoric is both unfair and pointless in my opinion, you only have to look at Trip Advisor to see you can never please everybody. I cannot WAIT to return to Norfolk, I thought it was stunning. We were on our way to Cromer when we stopped at the lighthouse but sadly I got an emergency work based call so had to shoot back but I will return. I went to Norwich once - only for one day and instantly fell in love with the cathedral .. I will be back :)
I really want to go back for a look, it looks amazing! Sadly I wasn't alone on this trip so where I am used to being utterly selfish with my time I had to compromise, not all my travelling companions like social history .. THE SHAME OF THEM! haha x
Hello Lucy. Thank you for taking me down memory lane. I was born in Norwich in 1945, the family then moved to great Yarmouth in 1957. In actual fact, our house was across the street from the Merrivale model Village. I could see the entrance from my bedroom window.. we had good times back then, I can always remember as I walked down the seafront, and seeing English gentleman still wearing a tie and a jacket as they strolled along the beach.😄. In 1964 I moved to Canada, just east of Vancouver, I have school chums that still live there and, say how it’s changed somewhat, (where hasn’t). I have been back a few times, to see those chums, and never miss an opportunity to stroll along the Golden Sands, minus the jacket and tie. 😎
Exactly, where hasn't? Poor old Great Yarmouth gets such a bad rap but I loved it! It had such charm and I can imagine those fellas in the tie and collar on the beach .. I always watch old footage and think people must have been SO WARM! There's photos of my Grandad in full suit in the middle of summer - lovely :)
Well done Lucy, best video of GY etc I have seen. Moved to this part of Norfolk 40 years ago from Cannock. People are always surprised by what is on offer here, you must try the Hippodrome circus, you will be amazed when you see the ring fill with water in the second half.
I used to holiday in Great Yarmouth as a kid and we took our own children there a few times as well but haven’t visited since 2005. I love the snails. I’m glad you showed me that you can still go on them as an adult. I’ll definitely do this if I go to Great Yarmouth again. The laughing sailor that you briefly showed in the Penny Arcade used to be under Britannia Pier. Also, Docwra’s rock shop is worth a visit. They do the best rock in the World and you can watch it being made.
I missed the rock shop - my fillings thank me (I love rock but I lost a filling on a piece once!) The snails were such fun, I was thrilled you can go on as an adult too - but I wasn't aware they were that "snappy" I laughed my way around .. brilliant fun!
I have many fond memories of going to Virginia City, Nevada as a kid in the 1980s. It's an 1850s Old West mining town that has been a tourist attraction for decades. It was a bit rundown and a little cheesy but it was a place where my parents would let us run free to buy souvenirs and visit the silly, faux mining displays and other "Old West" attractions. We always loved the Shooting Gallery the best. On a recent trip there, I saw that the shooting gallery had been removed from its original building but a local hero saved it and reassembled it. It's in a smaller space but I was so glad to see my old friend still working and making kids laugh. I love that some types of attractions are just unapologetically themselves. Not everything needs to be polished.
YES! Exactly this! We always had more freedom when we visited the seaside, coming from a big city we didn't get much freedom here, but those days we were allowed to run wild,'got terrible sun burn (oh the 80s 🙃) and just be free. That place in Nevada sounds amazing! I have visited vegas but I preferred Freemont Street Over the strip for the reasons you stated above!
Thank you Lucy for another fantastic video. We must be related, as I was born in Birmingham and like yourself I love the sea and Lighthouses. Before emigrating to New Zealand in 1973, my Family spent holidays by the sea. We never went to great Yarmouth, unfortunately. We would go to Skegg Ness and Cardigan Bay in Wales.I have very happy memories of our holidays on the coast.😊
Yes! Cardigan Bay was were we always went. New Quay or Aberaron, sometimes we would go to the Lynn Peninsula .. and one year was really exciting when we went to the Isle of Wight! I've never been to Skegness: funnily enough one my cousins used to go there and I was quite jealous as it sounded more fun to my child's brain!
I live in norfolk after living in Leicestershire for years it's beautiful!! if your ever in norfolk again head to cromer and that side of norfolk really pretty seaside town 😊
It's such a shame I was on my way to Cromer when a phone call brought me home. Absolutely can't wait to go back (and we have discussed moving there too, liked it that much!)
It’s a great place for a little break . I loved it as a kid and it’s hardly changed. I take my grandkids to the very rides I loved and it’s heartwarming. My family live nearby so I go all the time. Did you notice the Dutch influence of the buildings?
I'm a regular visitor to Great Yarmouth, I ago 4 or 5 times a year! There's so much more to it than the sea front, which is lovely! I'm glad you briefly cover some history but there's so much more to learn! GY was one of the most important medieval places in England! Many people I talk to are unaware of the 13th Century wall that surrounds the town, a lot of it still remains! If you take the time to research the History of GY, you'll appreciate your visit so much more!
Didn't have time to cover it on this visit sadly (it was a family holiday with minimal time for me to sneak off and film) but I did take a deep dive into the history when I returned. I'm looking forward to going back and exploring more particularly around the rows and ruins I found but didn't have time to film.
@@throughlucyslens if you've not been to North Norfolk, you need to! Hunstanton, Wells-Next-The-Sea, Sheringham and Cromer are all fantastic seaside towns! I'd also recommend going to King's Lynn, it has an unbelievable amount of historic buildings!
Love your videos 💜 my partner wanted to watch as he has been to great Yarmouth a lot. He says there's a vintage cinema and loads of penny arcades on the main strip.
It's a fab place isn't it, I used to go by train from Brum in the 60's for holidays with my parents and I remember The Snails and The Model Village. Lovely to see it all again. By the way Happisburgh is pronounced Haze-Bruh, one of the most bizarre pronunciations of place name ever 😄
Haha I did wonder if I was pronouncing it wrong! I even googled it 🤣 thank you for coming to my rescue! I know if I return to stay in the lighthouse cottage to not make a fool of myself! ❤️❤️❤️
@@throughlucyslens I only know how it's pronounced from another TH-cam channel, but I should imagine a good majority of visitors will get that wrong. If you do go back and stay then would you make a video about it please? 🙏🏽 I bet it is an amazing place to stay 😊
There's a lot of them in Norfolk, wymondham= windham, costessey=cossie, deopham= deefham. There's several more but embarrassingly I can't think of them now🤣
What a charming seaside resort! It looks so fun. If I ever get to England, I’d definitely check it out. The pleasure pier we have in Galveston (closest to Houston where I live) is very expensive, and the beach is on the dirty side of the Mississippi so it’s dirty and gross so I rarely go. Those cottages are so picturesque ❤. Are they privately owned or something people rent out? Are they for sleeping in/staying over a couple of days or just day use? Loved the lighthouse too. I’d love to see more if you’re ever able to stay in the cottage. What a unique experience that would be. Thank you so much for taking us along. Take care.
The beach huts are usually just used for the day. I'm not sure planning allows you to sleep over night in them but I'm not sure who would stop you! They are usually privately owned but you can rent some of them per day to enjoy. I love the idea of a pleasure pier on the Mississippi! I'm going to google it to see it :)
@@throughlucyslens Margate is lovely I used to travel down as a kid with my mates on the old slam door trains hanging out the windows zero health and safety! there is this place called the shell grotto and nobody knows it’s origin it’s shrouded in mystery I have lots of happy memories down there ❤️
Its amazing, nostalgia is great, im a big fan of adam ant who im going to see soon, way back in 1986 visting great yarmouth found a paperback book from 1981, it only happens in yarmouth, thanks for this nice open minded views cheers.
I love Adam Ant too! I've seen him a few times in smaller gigs with my friend Marianne! My fave albums are Dirk wears white sox & Kings of the wild frontier so the very early stuff, but I quite like strip too :)

@@throughlucyslens hi yes, phil collins played the drums, and when he went on tour marco the guitar player did'nt do some of the shows, i love vive le rock which marco played on all the tracks, my strip version came with a poster. Kind regards look forward to more videos.
The closest I've been to Great Yarmouth is Hemsby. It's a little further up the coast and is currently often in the news because it's sadly falling into the sea. It has the most beautiful sand dunes (very like Camber in East Sussex). If you liked Lowestoft, you'd adore Dungeness in Kent. It's one of those places that looks absolutely stunning when the sun's out and bleak as all hell when it's not. Folkestone, Greatstone and Littlestone in Kent all have lines of beach huts, and they are very difficult to get hold of. People wait on lists for years to get the chance to rent one.
I can imagine! I did a quick check and the ones I featured are money I can only dream of. I've got a video planned in the summer in a place called Walton-on-the-naze in Essex so I'm hoping I can connect Essex with some time in Sussex too: honestly I just love being by the sea. Super sad I live in one of the most landlocked cities in the UK 🫤
It looks gorgeous - with a stunning lighthouse too! I would love to, I think now I have "popped my East of England" cherry I will certainly be back! Loved it!
We had great holidays there as kids in the 70s 😊 When i lived in Coventry, everyone there called Weston Super Mare 'Weston Super Mud'. I've not been myself, but that name has not made me want to tbh. 😂
Hahaha yes Weston super mud - I took a group of students there many years ago and one of them ran off under the pier and got stuck in the mud .. fire brigade and coast guard had to be called - my heart still hasn't recovered! Weston has its own charm .. we went a LOT when I was a kid, but shhh Great Yarmouth is nicer 🤫
Is the wax work place still open? People say your brave to go on your own, but like you i prefer it, i may this year meet up with a friend i made online, but i saw an adam ant waxwork in yarmouth 1980's. You sound really good speak very clear and lots of knowledge.
Living on the seafront here in Great Yarmouth I can say it has lost a lot of its attraction but still millions flock here every summer .. there is a lot of hatred for Yarmouth and it's present with the run down shops buildings etc .. some of the locals give it a bad reputation but that's found in most towns / citys these days what a shame but there ya go ! Great video as per usual .. PS. It's not lowersoft its L O W E S T O F T ! Lol .. made me giggle that !
There's good and bad everywhere in this world and it drives me mad how some places it almost becomes fashionable to put them down. I really liked it - beautiful sand and friendly people. Sorry for my pronunciation, I am afraid I am terrible at not saying what I see :)
Another great seaside destination. Never been there as it is on the wrong side of the country for me, that said I have been to Dorset and visited the lighthouse; Portland Bill.
Ohhh I would love to go to Portland Bill! I loved the tv programme as a kid. I've seen the lighthouse on the end of The Needles and that was pretty brilliant!
I appreciate you promoting Norfolk. You can discover so much just by trying. Gorleston is a really nice place. xx
I will go when I return - because I will, totally fell in love with Norfolk! Absolute diamond of a place, beautifully refreshing :)
Gorelston is beautiful, fantastic beach. Love the area,we own a caravan at cherry tree holiday park at burgh castle 👍👍
I love history but it's social history that always really gets under my skin so I'm
Glad you enjoyed it .. and I laughed all around the snails - wasn't expecting them to be so snappy 😂
Don't apologize for the coffee comments. I think it's a really cool feature, and a nice way of doing something beyond subscribing, liking, and watching. Glad you added it.
Thank you. That's really really kind of you. ❤️
Just imagine the grandeur of the Winter Gardens. Loving your social history stories. Thank you for sharing them.
Thank you. I love making them ❤️
Never been to this part of the country. After watching your trip I definitely want to now. You bring everything to life and research and explain things so clearly. So much packed into this beautiful place. Thanks so much for sharing. Just loved it.
You are so welcome and please do, I can't believe it had taken me this long to discover such a beautiful part of our country. You will fall in love x
You don’t want to trust me I regret it soon to leave absolute disgusting place
Stay for a year and you will soon and see realise 😮
Thank you for your tour Lucy. I used to go to Yarmouth as a child, have lovely memories. I went a couple of years ago and was so disappointed to see the wonderful WinterGardens crumbling before our very eyes. I was so happy when you said they are refurbishing it. It’s such an amazing building I can’t wait to see it. Thank you.
I am so glad they are refurbishing it too! It would be an absolute travesty to watch it rot any further, it is in quite a sorry state and sad to see. I really enjoyed Great Yarmouth though and I'm very much looking forward to going back!
Wonderful video Lucy your enthusiasm comes across every time take care. ✨✨✨✨
Thank you. Really appreciate it. When I love somewhere I just want to tell the world 🤣❤️
Never visited Great Yarmouth. Thanks for sharing as you've made it look interesting.
It's a smashing little sea side resort. I thought it was lovely!
I’m so pleased you had such a lovely time here. This was such comfort viewing for me. The model village nearly made me sob the memory of visiting there was so vivid.
Never be weird about the coffee thing - you work bloody hard
That pic of you and baby Rupert at the end 🥰 Love you beauties
Love you. Wish you could have been with me, we should get that sorted! I can drive! Rupert can co-pilot and we can stay in a travelodge x
Loved your blog Lucy, great Yarmouth my favourite seaside resort, so many lovely memories.
So glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was great, and that beautiful white sand, flawless ❤️
Thanks!
Oh my goodness you are amazing. Thank you so so much. I am off on a little adventure tomorrow and this means a Lot. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I will do! I fell in love with Norfolk as a whole -
People make a place and everyone was lovely .. as were the golden a sands and brilliant food!
Thanks, I was gutted I didn't have time to see any of the Broads but that's just a great excuse to go back isn't it? ❤️
Another fab video, my Sunday night treat in bed before I go to sleep! Thanks and keep them coming please!
I will do! I promise! I'm going somewhere very special to me on Tuesday for next week :)
Thanks Lucy, loved the tour!
You are so welcome, thank you for watching Anne xx
This was a place I went to with my parents back in the day. It’s was lovely to see it again. Brings back very happy memories. Thank you for your tours. Awesome🐞
You are so welcome Carole, it's such a small world really. I am so glad it brought back memories for you :)
That was fabulous. Your excitement and curiosity really comes through in your videos and really cheers me up 😁.
Oh thank you! That's lovely! I've woken up a real grump this morning so that's really helped me refocus my day x
Thanks for entertaining us all with your information about your travel vloggs always have a happy day always 😊
Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoy them ❤️❤️❤️
Another great video. I love seeing the places real people enjoyed ( and still do)
@@throughlucyslens that would have looked brilliant!
Thank you for a great video Lucy. We have enjoyed many happy times here. Have a lovely week. Best wishes Dave and Dawn♥
Thank you two, I've been to Hanbury Hall today to walk the dog and I always wonder if I will bump into you two somewhere along the way!
Hi that would be good our paths will cross one day and we will buy you a coffee. Daves daughter works and lives at Hanbury. ❤
Oh wow! Didn't get to go into the house today as had Rupert with me but it's such a lovely house!
Thank you for sharing have been visiting Norfolk for the last 30 years, happy memories 😊 thank you for sharing enjoyed
You are so welcome: I am looking forward to making more happy memories there too ❤️
Thank you for another great video.
Sorry I’m so late watching this lovely, I got hit with a helluva 🤢 bug over the weekend - just about starting to feel human again
I’m excited for this one, Great Yarmouth holds so many lovely memories for me. You’re right about Weston too though - Dad used to take us on random day trips there all the time. Good times 💜❤️
Oh Lucy this was fantastic to watch. You’re a gem. I deliver nationwide as my job, I never get time to sight see.
Lighthouses 😍
That's so frustrating! I had a travelling tea party business for 5 years, I visited so many amazing places but only saw the inside of a premier inn and a conference venue - it's sooo frustrating!
@@throughlucyslens I pass through chocolate box thatched roof villages but can’t stop. Some telly cute places
It used to break my heart especially if I saw a lovely cafe 🤣
What a fun video! My mum has told me stories of visiting the seaside when she was a child in England. Thanks again!
Very welcome! I think being a small island we all crave being near the water x
That was such an interesting video, thank you so much for the way you have included lots of history bits and made it come to life. Glad I found your channel. 😊😉
Thanks for coming with me Andrew, that's what I love to do and I'm glad you enjoyed it ❤️
A great video and well presented, makes me want to revisit Great Yarmouth, lots to see there.
Thank you so much! I'm in shock someone is enjoying my videos from Uruguay! That's just absolutely amazing! I hope it warms up soon :) ❤️
@@throughlucyslens your such a star Lucy showing us all these wonderful things and the history behind it all. Bless ya 🥰
❤️❤️❤️
This looks like a great place to wander around on one's own. I sometimes like to just go off by myself and not worry if my traveling companion is bored or tired or hungry. I could wander and linger where my attention was held. Maybe someday!
This is why I love going it alone. I don't have to - but sometimes it's just nice isn't it? I was out and about today and no one was thirsty or tired .. except me! It's been liberating x
Wow that’s brought back some memories, l am so glad Yarmouth still has so much from my childhood
Wonderful
Absolutely lovely voice you have. Lovely images. Nice video. Thank you
Very welcome, it's funny when people say I have a nice voice because in general the Brummie accent isn't very popular and i've always been a bit embarrassed about that even though I am a proud Birmingham citizen - so thank you!
Just discovered your ‘Channel’ found this very informative,I’ll be catching up with all the rest…..Keep up the good work…
Awesome, thank you! Really appreciate that. I absolutely love making them and love having you travel with me ❤️
The Snails ❤❤❤❤ If you come back definitely go to the Time and Tide museum, it is fabulous.
B/Ham On Sea.....,yeh ! You had a good time and a wander, worth the long trip!
Totally worth it, I think I could do with a few months break before my next mission down the A47 that road never ended .. and no little chefs anymore. What is a girl to do! ❤️
I love beach huts too Lucy, they are magical xxx
I adore them. I was so ridiculously excited to see my first ones at 44 🤣
great yarmouth looked very nice plenty to do 😀i never had sea side holidays as a kid but when i had my children.... we had some lovely sea side holidays 😄🤣🤗
I am always doing things I wanted to do when I was a kid too - I need to go to Skegness, for some reason I was really jealous of my friends that went - even though I've heard it's a bit run down these days I just HAVE to go! x
@@throughlucyslens hope you do 😃 and enjoy 🤗
@@throughlucyslens We will be glad to have you here
I love lighthouses too! Portland Bill was my favourite programme as a kid.
YES!! I loved Portland Bill too and now I have the lovely theme tune in my head :)
Another great video! I just love your enthusiasm and energy.Thank you!
P.S - I’ll definitely buy you a coffee when I get paid 💚☕️
Thank you! I really can't help but talk a lot about places I love 🤣❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for another great video. Greetings from South Africa. One day I might make it to Great Yarmouth xx
Hello! Gosh it amazes me people watch from such fascinating places. Hope all is well and thank you for your lovely comment x
You are very welcome, me too, I was so emotional when I turned the corner and saw them all there .: like a little dream to me :)
@@throughlucyslens We've got beach huts all down the Suffolk coast, Felixstowe is full of them. Living in this area and working in Gorleston, I have the opposite reaction when I go to Devon/Cornwall - those trips remind me of childhood.
@@davidkgame Devon is beautiful isn't it? I've only been to Cornwall once and I remember the sea - vast expanse of foamy sea - gorgeous :)
I went last year to Markham and Hemsby it was wonderful.. we kept it very simply and only had 2 nights , we got their Friday eve and left Sunday lunchtime. I could happily spend a week there, just a beautiful place to be. We stayed in a beautiful cottage in Markham it's inland but perfect for our dog to enjoy safely ❤️ great video thank you
Martham?
@juliaread5449 yes that's the one.. confused it with Sir Frank Markham which was someone connected to my own home town!
But next time I'll be speaking like a true local :)
Love your county. It's truly special ❤️
@@throughlucyslens Potter Heigham is another place pronounced completely differently! Potter'um or Potter Ham with the emphasis on the "Ham" part!
I'm definitely guilty of only just discovering how beautiful this country is in my 40s. Norfolk really blew me away!
Hi Lucy. I love seaside places. Southend in Essex is where I spent time in my childhood. The pier there goes on for nearly a mile. If you ever get the chance, do visit.
I really enjoyed the video. Thank you 😊
That sounds amazing! I have a video planned at another location in Essex so this will be an amazing add on - thank you! ❤️
Thanks for your share. Time and tide really is well worth a visit
I really want to go back for a look, it looks amazing! Sadly I wasn't alone on this trip so where I am used to being utterly selfish with my time I had to compromise, not all my travelling companions like social history .. THE SHAME OF THEM! haha x
Another great video Lucy!❤
Glad you liked it! Something slightly different but I couldn't resist be somewhere so beautiful and not film it x
Great video Lucy. ❤
Thank you! ❤️
Well done Lucy, best video of GY etc I have seen. Moved to this part of Norfolk 40 years ago from Cannock. People are always surprised by what is on offer here, you must try the Hippodrome circus, you will be amazed when you see the ring fill with water in the second half.
Aww thank you that's so lovely! Really appreciate it! That circus sounds amazing. I will be going back so I'll be sure to check that out!
@@throughlucyslens one day I would love to meet you in Birmingham and have a Coffee and a jolly good chat. 🥰
My email is in my bio :)
We are at Happisburgh now, for the second time. After a day in Cromer, you really must visit there.
Honestly can't wait! We were on our way to Cromer but I got called home, gutted!
Great Yarmouth is one of my favourite places for a really fun day out. ❤
Love it! I think it's great!
It’s a great place for a little break . I loved it as a kid and it’s hardly changed. I take my grandkids to the very rides I loved and it’s heartwarming. My family live nearby so I go all the time.
Did you notice the Dutch influence of the buildings?
Yes, especially in the South Quay, I think it was the commissioners building on the Quay front looked as if it had just hopped over from Amsterdam :)
Didn't have time to cover it on this visit sadly (it was a family holiday with minimal time for me to sneak off and film)
but I did take a deep dive into the history when I returned.
Thank you. I can't wait to go back to Norfolk, i absolutely loved it!
Would love a beach hut or better yet a house near the beach with a loo 😛
And love painted Carousels, always wanted one of the horses off an old one😀
I would LOVE to live by the sea, kind of ironic as my home is about as far as you can get each way in the UK ...
we are only about 20-30 minutes away from the north sea, so on the rare day it stops raining in Scotland 😝we can go for an afternoon
Beautiful' I am so desperate to come to Scotland. There's so much on my list for your neck of the woods. Fingers crossed ❤️❤️
its pretty rainy at the moment, so bring wellies 😋
Love your videos 💜 my partner wanted to watch as he has been to great Yarmouth a lot. He says there's a vintage cinema and loads of penny arcades on the main strip.
Oh amazing. I wasn't there long enough to really get into the nuts and bolts of the town, I really want to go back now though!
Absolutely! I would love to, I am going to look into booking it October time - out of season to enjoy the wild weather x
@@throughlucyslens Oooh lovely 😍 I shall look forward to seeing that 😀 x
There's a lot of them in Norfolk, wymondham= windham, costessey=cossie, deopham= deefham. There's several more but embarrassingly I can't think of them now🤣
Great video! Thanks for sharing GY
Very welcome, I think it has an unfair reputation x
Definitely visit Gorleston! If you go further south, Southwold is gorgeous but a lot posher.
Sounds lovely. I totally fell in love!
I love the seaside there’s just something about fish and chips in paper by the sea!! have you ever been to Margate ??
I haven't! But I really really want to go to the roller disco at Dreamland! ❤️
@@throughlucyslens Margate is lovely I used to travel down as a kid with my mates on the old slam door trains hanging out the windows zero health and safety! there is this place called the shell grotto and nobody knows it’s origin it’s shrouded in mystery I have lots of happy memories down there ❤️
Ohhh that sounds brilliant .. I wish I had infinate time I'd be there today 🤣
Bleasure Beach has a great event around Halloween called Fairground Freights, it's awesome and I've only ever ridden the roller coaster in the evening
Sounds amazing!! God I'm not sure I would have coped in the dark not seeing what's coming 🤣
Brilliant video 😊
Oh thank you so much that's lovely of you. Really appreciated ❤️
Looks wonderful!
Thank you. I really did enjoy it ❤️
the snails are legendary!!!
My god I laughed my way around! I didn't realise they were so "nippy" 😂
@@throughlucyslens sorry about that, yes thats amazing, im going to see him november should be good, hope to here from you soon, your a really nice person, videos are great.dirk is good, i have a white viny of that, strip was good as well, im a big sex pistols fan as well, which adam has a big connection with.kind regards.take care hope to here from you again anytime your more than welcome.
@@throughlucyslens kings ive got a nice box set, the album was simply amazing every track, i felt it was one of the best, also i really like vive le rock as well, strip i bought three years after 1986 it really is a decent album, phil collins plays the drums on it.lady from abba does vocals on the strip track. Kind regards.
Didn't know that about Phil Collins! Thanks for telling me!
Lovely, thank you! 😊
You’re welcome 😊 thank you ❤️
If you get time to try Southwold Suffolk you would love it. It got it all but is expensive
It looks gorgeous - with a stunning lighthouse too! I would love to, I think now I have "popped my East of England" cherry I will certainly be back! Loved it!
We had great holidays there as kids in the 70s 😊
When i lived in Coventry, everyone there called Weston Super Mare 'Weston Super Mud'. I've not been myself, but that name has not made me want to tbh. 😂
Worked in a building in Cardiff, on a clear day could see WSM !
@@DeanSinger-ky7md is it as bad as people in Coventry say it is?
Hahaha yes Weston super mud - I took a group of students there many years ago and one of them ran off under the pier and got stuck in the mud .. fire brigade and coast guard had to be called - my heart still hasn't recovered! Weston has its own charm .. we went a LOT when I was a kid, but shhh Great Yarmouth is nicer 🤫
@throughlucyslens HAHA God that must have been scary! Bloody kids. You need eyes in the back of your head, that for sure 😂
Honestly I don't think I'll ever get over it! Wonder if that's why I quit teaching in the end 🤣
Had holidays there but don't remember them lol. The Galleon I've seen on a video sailing into Whitby dock, amazing, men and women sail it 👍🙂
They are amazing the people on that galleon! It's such hard work!
Cool, thank you brilliant ❤
Thanks sharon x
Is the wax work place still open? People say your brave to go on your own, but like you i prefer it, i may this year meet up with a friend i made online, but i saw an adam ant waxwork in yarmouth 1980's. You sound really good speak very clear and lots of knowledge.
Sadly not :(
I never got to see it but I saw in online and would have loved to visit. Thanks for your lovely compliment 🥰
Your @@throughlucyslens your more than welcome, your a nice lady, and the videos are really interesting.
Lovely memories
Glad you enjoyed :)
I’ve never been to Great Yarmouth. The beach looks great.
It's lovely, I was shocked how lovely and yellow the sand was, really soft too x
If you ever make it to the US, come to North Carolina and tour our amazing lighthouses!
I would LOVE THAT. I just googled it, my goodness the dream ❤️
@@throughlucyslens They are amazing. Just don't come in July or August. Way too hot here during those months.
The waterways is the best for total relaxation in GY!
Ohh I am so sad I didn't have time to go. When I return the venician waterways are top of my list ❤️
Just curious, were the seagulls on those magnets eating French fries (chips)?!! 😂😂😂
Hahaha yes! The seagulls in the UK are BRUTAL! They are known for stealing peoples bags of chips as they walk down the sea front!.
