Building a Stone and Wood Bridge Bench

- For this build, I combined several elements from different areas of life into one cohesive design. A bench with an organic stone as one leg elegantly transitions to a refined joinery and bent lamination emulating a bridge.
The stone is a granite boulder. The top and leg are African Mahogany, and the Arch, cross braces, and wedges are walnuts. The whole thing is finished with a satin wipe-on poly.

Thanks! Funny you should mention it....I've had this idea to make a white concrete iceberg extending through a table, but had never sorted out how to create the organically shaped opening.... so I was taking notes while watching this! :)

@@modustrial Oddly enough while I was watching this video I was thinking you could really change the sandstone rock for some GFRC. The end product definitely looks amazing - I thought it had a Japanese feel to it. I have lift similar sized sandstone sculptures and they were back breakers.
Just goes to show that one person's bench is another person's table.
That bench is gorgeous! You should do a whole series of pieces in this style. The work on the stone was a beast but it paid off in the end.
Loved the idea of stabilizing the stone with foam. Unique design for a table. Nicely done.
Hollowing out that rock to make it lighter was awesome. Much respect for those who actually get things done. Good job and great results.

That's a gorgeous table and I can appreciate how you hollowed out the stone and used felt on the bottom.
I have had a similar concept in my head for a while (stone as a leg) and I love what you did with the other leg. The arch and spines look amazing and are a nice contrast and compliment to the stone side. Outstanding!!
