In reality, the couple (both caucasian) had been in debt and adopted an African American child, despite being hyper-racist. They took out multiple life insurance policies on the boy and basically had him executed in order to collect on those policies. Some people are straight up trash.

I know, being a kid in the '80s and '90s people were kind of nuts over it when the idea never made any sense. No one has to pay for candy and answer the door to kids and hand it out anyway, so why do a generous thing just to hurt completely random children for no particular reason? The fact that a child would need to be most afraid of the people who are supposed to love and protect them the most is frankly an even scarier than "stranger danger". But he also did give them to 3 other children as some kind of "diversion", even if poisoning random children was not at all the purpose. Also, I have heard enough stories about people taking out life insurance on their little kids to kill them and try to cash out. A young child is not bringing in money, and if people have children so they can earn money and support them later in life they don't deserve children at all. Life insurance policies should be regulated so people are not killed for monetary reasons, there is a story that happened recently with a man who took out a life insurance policy on his nephew and then had him killed. They were on a reality show about a food business called sweetie pies 🥧 Very intriguing true crime story...
You have to know a decent amount of info about them in order to do it. SSN, DOB, and a few other things. An SSN isn't something most people know about another person. That's why it's usually a spouse or child. There's no sense in saying "they should know about the policy" when it's your child. Most have one from a job or they get it around the time they're born. Most spouses have one on each other, again from a job. For most it's assumed that they do. Insurance policies don't pay out to someone if they murder the person. Even if they did, that person would be in prison (in most cases) so the money would be useless. Usually it pays out to a specified beneficiary like a child or other family member. They're actually quite regulated, especially these days. They're useful in the event of a sudden death. In 99.999% of cases it's legitimate. I see no reason to change things due to an almost immeasurably small fraction of people with bad intentions.

You build a life together and there's a heavy level of codependency. So one of you suddenly dying usually leaves the other in a pretty dire position, especially financially. It's even worse if you have children. Plus there are massive funeral costs. Debts to be reconciled, and many other issues. Some spouses don't work so they can't get a policy on themselves which leaves it up to the working spouse to do so. By your logic nobody should be able to get a life insurance policy, even on themselves. Especially men and definitely not combat veterans. Given how high suicide rates are. We're you suggesting life insurance creates an unreasonable incentive for murder? Because that claim would stand even more so for suicide.

Thank you for pointing out that last fact about Halloween. I’ve been trying to tell people for years that’s there’s never been a case of a stranger poisoning kids on the holiday, but I still see fear-bait news reports and hear people talk about it every year as if it were a fact of life. It’s important for people to know the truth or Halloween could go away forever.
The worst thing that's happened to me on Halloween is that I was poisoned. This was in the late 70s, I was 9 or 10 years old, and I'm disabled anyway, all of us went trick or treating in our neighborhood, and I got a bunch of fruit with candy, yes, I know kind of weird, anyway, I ate an apple first and after about 10 or 15 minutes, I started convulsing. My aunt had to call the ambulance when they got there, I had a temperature of 105. They ran test on me at the hospital. I was poisoned with PCP and LSD, and it was injected into an apple. I was the only one in the neighborhood who was poisoned, it seems like I was targeted is what the police said because of the way that I walk, and that really sucks, because I almost died someone thought, I shouldn't be alive because of the way that I walk, and tried to kill me with PCP & LSD that is so messed up, I was out of school for almost 2 months, I was so sick, it took my body a long time to recover, and they never found the sorry SOB who tried to kill me, I don't know why people hate people like me, it's just my legs, nothing else. So the moral of this story is, don't take your kids trick or treating. I didn't take mine, I took them to trick or Trunk instead, and like tonight, we made home made sugar cookies and decorated them, watched a horror movie had a bunch of Halloween candy, some wine, and just a lot of fun, so much better than trick or treating. This is just a story to remind people to be careful.

Life insurance policies should be regulated so people are not killed for monetary reasons, there is a story that happened recently with a man who took out a life insurance policy on his nephew and then had him killed. They were on a reality show about a food business called sweetie pies 🥧

You have to know a decent amount of info about them in order to do it. SSN, DOB, and a few other things. An SSN isn't something most people know about another person. That's why it's usually a spouse or child. There's no sense in saying "they should know about the policy" when it's your child. Most have one from a job or they get it around the time they're born. Most spouses have one on each other, again from a job. For most it's assumed that they do. Insurance policies don't pay out to someone if they murder the person. Even if they did, that person would be in prison (in most cases) so the money would be useless. Usually it pays out to a specified beneficiary like a child or other family member.
They're actually quite regulated, especially these days. They're useful in the event of a sudden death. In 99.999% of cases it's legitimate. I see no reason to change things due to an almost immeasurably small fraction of people with bad intentions.

@@sammygirl6910 it's just part of being married. You're considered a single unit by the government for most things. I don't see any issue with it, they're your spouse. You build a life together and there's a heavy level of codependency. So one of you suddenly dying usually leaves the other in a pretty dire position, especially financially. It's even worse if you have children. Plus there are massive funeral costs. Debts to be reconciled, and many other issues. Some spouses don't work so they can't get a policy on themselves which leaves it up to the working spouse to do so.
By your logic nobody should be able to get a life insurance policy, even on themselves. Especially men and definitely not combat veterans. Given how high suicide rates are. We're you suggesting life insurance creates an unreasonable incentive for murder? Because that claim would stand even more so for suicide.

The worst thing that's happened to me on Halloween is that I was poisoned. This was in the late 70s, I was 9 or 10 years old, and I'm disabled anyway, all of us went trick or treating in our neighborhood, and I got a bunch of fruit with candy, yes, I know kind of weird, anyway, I ate an apple first and after about 10 or 15 minutes, I started convulsing. My aunt had to call the ambulance when they got there, I had a temperature of 105. They ran test on me at the hospital. I was poisoned with PCP and LSD, and it was injected into an apple. I was the only one in the neighborhood who was poisoned, it seems like I was targeted is what the police said because of the way that I walk, and that really sucks, because I almost died someone thought, I shouldn't be alive because of the way that I walk, and tried to kill me with PCP & LSD that is so messed up, I was out of school for almost 2 months, I was so sick, it took my body a long time to recover, and they never found the sorry SOB who tried to kill me, I don't know why people hate people like me, it's just my legs, nothing else. So the moral of this story is, don't take your kids trick or treating. I didn't take mine, I took them to trick or Trunk instead, and like tonight, we made home made sugar cookies and decorated them, watched a horror movie had a bunch of Halloween candy, some wine, and just a lot of fun, so much better than trick or treating. This is just a story to remind people to be careful.
