We are working hard on starting a cult in London, Ontario, Canada. London is going to be the FIRE MECCA of Canada. Our group is called London on FIRE & we have surpassed 500 members! The monthly meetups are amazing. Of course it's free to be in the club in the spirit of mustachianism :P Someday hope to host Mr Money Mustache (Pete Adeney) himself when he makes his annual trip to hamilton, ONTARIO, CANADA. Only about 1.5 hours away. Willing to pickup, host, and drop-off back in Hamilton :)
As far as the social "costs" go, I think so much of that is in our own heads. Your friends probably couldn't even tell you what you wore to work on any given day last week. We really just think people are noticing, but they're really just as self- focused as we are.
Also, if you don't make enough conscious choices in your life or have the luxury to make those choices, many of the people you are surrounded by have values you don't share. It's much easier to find people who influence you to make smart choices once you have a certain amount of power, time, etc.
single because I never thought anyone would want to live my ingenious life-style.... the Tinder thing could bring me back into dating..... but without it: I will be re-planting my kale~ retired at 40 [culinary historian]
Finding a guy in LA that thinks like this is very difficult. A lot of them lease the most expensive bmw they can, they rent the most expensive place they can and are snotty and look down their nose at you based on your car and how far you are from the 405 and Montana Ave.
Papeeshka It’s sad too because everyone’s trying to look rich resulting in none of them actually being rich. They use people and value things instead of valuing people and using things.
Every town and city is full of guys like this. But most women don't want reasonable men and look in the wrong places - nightclubs and restaurants, where the big spenders go. Women are designed to spend someone else's money.
Cult as a name needs a change to draw more in. For example... the " shift" is one word that implies many things within itself. The shift awareness is much more efficient.
Haha great interview but he's so clearly antsy and ready to make tracks halfway through. He's checking the question list like chop-chop. If anyone hasn't read the MMM blog, I can't recommend it enough. A literal life-changer.
I honestly wish I discovered all of this earlier in life. I discovered it in my 30s and since then I've paid off my mortgage and become debt free, although not financially free as yet. I think it should be our duty to educate as many young people as we can to live a frugal life, instead of spending money you don't have on things you don't need to impress people you don't like.
@@SpeedDemonExpress That's not true! Women just want to feel like a priority and feel special. It doesn't require the spending of money, but it DOES require the spending of time and effort. The ones that require money aren't worth the time.
Anyone else find it humorous he's wearing a Callaway golf jacket? He's talked in the past about how golf is a tremendous waste of time and resources. But anyways I have a lot of love for his blog and think he's most likely a really good guy. I just find this ironic.
Make 6 figures a year or won’t work, he spends like 30,000 year, but makes 100,000... If not this isn’t for you Saving u time!! He should come clean with that!

I'm sorry, but none of these people are retired or they wouldn't constantly be online and TV doing these lengthy podcasts. They are still working... blogging, writing books and consulting. Having said that, there is still value to some of the things they say, but be realistic.
I think the idea is to be financially independent so they choose to work and not forced to. Plus they can pick projects that they enjoy rather than what makes money.
@@divinefoods5918 That is true, but it is not 'retired'. I like what I do and am financially independent, but I don't go around telling people that I'm retired. That would be a lie.
@@betterburial it depends what your definition of retired is. He doesn't have to work he just decided to write a blog and share his experiences and advice on how to retire early and it grew to this. He could put his feet up for 50 years but that would be boring.
He left his job as an engineer and ceased to work. He writes a blog as a hobby but happens to make money from it. If you make money after retirement does that mean you are not retired?
My heart aches for founders running businesses as a cult/religion. How narrow minded to treat anyone finding utility in something you've made as a mindless follower. Even using this idea as expression shows how little one thinks on their own. To create change in some meaningful way is to empower/create space for others to think on their own, and build upon useful ideas not take any as law. To me, this is a very bad idea best not spread.
Indeed, and someone as yourself, who is aware of that isn't who my opinion would be directed to. An astonishing amount of very intelligent individuals have a difficult time parsing context...To me, the last thing the world needs is more tribes. It's amazing how quickly success can turn a useful gimmick into a damaging culture. There's a degree of utility in seeing the other side of the coin.
Jokes about cults isn't funny. Think Jehovah's Witnesses. They destroy families and cause mental issues. Only those who have been in cults or touched by cults can understand fully how unfunny it is.
I think his is a good kind of cult though, because you’re free to join or leave as you wish. I think by cult he really means a group of people build around an ideal, who support and encourage each other in pursuit of that ideal in their own lives.
I agree... “ cult “ isn’t the right word. “ Cult “ is more than just following a set of principles, it is to worship someone/something and at that point you surrender the right of thinking by yourself in order to please your “god” and become more like “ him “ . Sounds good in theory, but it’s a very dangerous thing!
1. Minimize Unnecessary Expenses
2. Focus on Health
3. Diversify Skill Set(s)
4. Build Social Network
Hell yeah
Haha that’s a good cliff notes.

Susan Miller Thanks for the fb link.
does MMM have a youtube channel, can you provide his links.thanks
Many Indians seem to like mustaches, indeed. :-)
No way?! FINALLY a new interview with MMM. Ive listened to all podcasts and videos I was able to find.
Can you give me more vids to watch?

good normal guy, refreshing on internet

30s isn’t bad. Me too. It’s better than going your whole life wasting money with no financial freedom. Keep it up brah!
In my day Moustachian was pronounced 'tight arsed' BUT that is ok. No need to be a mindless consumer. Better to be a conscious citizen.
Somebody get working on that money mustache dating application!
right
Would be quite helpful. My wife took off with a doctor because she couldn't stand my mustachian ways.
haha yes please!
It won't help. It will have lots of men on there and few women because women want lots of money spent on them.

He probably bought it in a thrift store.

I wonder if the ETFs MMM invests in are holding a large amount of companies that he's morally opposed to....
What was the name of the investing book given to you by your wealthy relative?

How so?
I'd rather not save a dime instead of having a roommate to save $$.
