Finally, a pen reviewer that talks about all the important things I care about without being intolerable or rambling about useless stuff for an eternity. 10/10 review; very well done, sir.
Great review. I’ve been considering buying one of these for a while, and this has pushed me a little further towards taking the plunge. Also good to see a fellow left-hander using fountain pens!
I do not know why I like TWSBI pens, as they have several characteristics that I think that I do not like, but when I get them and use them they impress me and they write well and I find myself really liking a pen that I did not think I would like at all. So, not only do they work and write very well, but they put a spell on you, too.
The simplicity of the vacuum filler makes the filler mechanism have a very small footprint. I think it looks really stylish when filled up with ink. Compared to the 580 alr where the mechanism takes up more space, i don't think it looks nearly as slick. I'm having a really hard time choosing between the two... I think the size, weight and less hassle of the 580 might suit me better. But i really like the slick look of the vac 700r.
Just got one today. I’m opening and setting it up as I watch your video. Great job. The R stands for redesign as this is the redesign from the 700. Just a couple tweaks from problems customers noticed with the 700.
Enjoyed your video. You mentioned that the barrel is not faceted but totally round, correct? Then, when the pen is unposted can it roll around a surface that is not level? Thanks
You make great content because you touch on key features needed to make a purchase, which I did! Thank you! Also, I like your presentation because of your smooth delivery!
Excellent review! I recently had a problem with my Vac700R. The black knob came off the plunger. Hopefully I will be able to fix it. Otherwise I love the pen. Have the 1.1 stub nib making it one of my best writers.
This has been on my sights for a while. I have a 589 and really love it. Thing is I have a Metropolitan which is great in so many ways, but I can not get on with the step on the grip. Same with the Italix churchman’s priscriptor, awesome pen but grip step brother for me.
I hold the Prescriptor by the barrel just above the "grip section". It balances the pen better for me and is more comfortable. Let me know what you think.
Yeah, I can see that - depending on ones grip. I find the section long enough for that step down not getting into my way at all. But as said, I can see that being bothersome.
This video was one of the ones that helped me decide to get this pen. I'm still getting used to it not being able to post, but other than that it's a joy to use.
Thanks for a great review, I’m thinking of getting one for my birthday this month, I love the fact that it’s the Vac fill, I already own an Eco and a Go which I love to use Twisbi make great pens at an affordable price.
Great review, as always. Thank you. I agree this pen is incredible value. i discovered a spare Diplomat nib in my ink drawer and popped it into this TWSBI. A bit silly I know. The result was to lift this pen to a whole new level. I think a cheaper way to improve it would be with a Bock No. 6. I find the JOWO nib TWSBI fit to be a little on the scratchy side. However I a left handed and so it might be different. One of the other things that stands out with this pen is that it can sit for months in the drawer and write straight away. Your cameras are very good and you use them very well. :)
Thanks a lot for another thoughtful comment, Kevin. I appreciate you returning and leaving me comments. I always get very happy when I read your name in the comment section here :)
I must admit, I'd held off from purchasing the Vac series TWSBI's, primarily due to their early prototype flaws - leaking O rings, & easily cracked barrels & caps; I would assume that the suffix 'R' stands for 'Revision' to the same. It's a good sized scribe, & once again, having seen a review of the latest model in your presentation, I may purchase one in the near future. The one constant with TWSBI pens, is the writing experience - the nibs are very well tuned, straight from the factory, & so far, I've never had any concerns with their operation. My only grumble, Michael, is that Matte finished clip - it just looks incongruous & certainly disrupts the aesthetics of the pen - makes the whole instrument seem unfinished. Always a joy, watching your videos - many thanks !! :D
They really needed to upgrade this pen. I had the original. Awkward and uncomfortable - the only thing I liked about it was the wonderful nib and the filling system. I threw it out when the rubber seals disintegrated. I agree about the powder-coated clip - they should have upgraded that too. I find the Pilot 823 to be everything the TWSBI Vac 700 tried to be but isn't. Thanks for another fine review.
Thanks! I haven't had a chance to have a look at the older model, but yeah, I agree, the 823 is a way better pen. Way 'better' price of course, as well :-)
I had the previous model but because the cap broke around the silver ring, I returned this pen to the shop from where I bought it and I said that I would never buy again a TWSBI pen. Does anyone know if the new version has any issues like this or any other problems?
I love the pen and the editing experience as well as the filling system ...but I’m facing an issue...whenever I open the screw nob from the back for longer writing sessions and keep it open, the ink burps out of the nib on the paper quite a lot of times...is anyone facing the same issue or is there any remedy for the same?
Likely from your hand warming up the air inside the barrel. Hold the pen nib up and open the valve and hold it in your hand for a short while before turning it back down. The other issue could be the viscosity of your ink.
It is a nice pen.... and i lov"ed" it... i used it for 2 days with pilot iroshijuku syo-ro.. but the barrel section of the pen got a huge crack.... Just in 2days,without dropping. Still,It IS a nice pen... but its kinda fragile
It can technically post, but I do not think it is really meant to be posted. It does not feel very secure and also the pen gets very long and unwieldy.
scrively...i ordered the broad nib so i'm a bit scared that it will write like a double broad and i won't be able to use it for cursive writing but my lamy al star in ocean blue writes so well with a broad nib and that's what convinced me to go with a broad if you don't mind me asking, are you german? you have such a strong accent but i understand you perfectly which is rare for me
Not "cheap" for what it is, a very unpleasant pen (filling it up is a crusade!) and awfully stiff nib. A Sailor Realo is 4 times more expensive but 10 times better, in every way. TWISBI? Forget it!!!!
I don't have a twisbi as a result of this phenomenon - it seems to affect everyone. SBRE Brown seems to be quite vocal about this as well. Pity, as it is a really nice pen.
Finally, a pen reviewer that talks about all the important things I care about without being intolerable or rambling about useless stuff for an eternity. 10/10 review; very well done, sir.
Thanks much. Glad this is useful to you.
Top pen especially if you use the TWSBI Vac filling bottle for the 700R and the Vac mini. Once full you only have to fill every 6 months.
Great review. I’ve been considering buying one of these for a while, and this has pushed me a little further towards taking the plunge. Also good to see a fellow left-hander using fountain pens!
Thank you! Lefties unite! :-)
Check out „Mick L“, he is also a lefty :)
This is the best video about the TWSBI 700 vac i have seen. Thank you.
Thanks very much!

I also did enjoy those pens quite a bit!

Thank you. yes, correct. The pen would still not roll around, since the piston turning knob is faceted.
You make great content because you touch on key features needed to make a purchase, which I did! Thank you! Also, I like your presentation because of your smooth delivery!
No: Six thank you very much!

Thanks for the comment! I hope you get the knob-issue sorted out! Maybe contact TWSBI? The are normally quite accessible and helpful with such issues.
It was really easy after all. I am glad because I really like the Vac700R.

yeah, it is a really lovely pen!
Try the Wing Sung 3013 Vac fill. Great pen for about $5.00.
Great review; thx! Bought a Vac700R today!
Wonderful - thanks!
Great review, as always. Thank you.

@@Scrivelynotes You are kind, thank you. :)
To fill the pen compelety you gotta flip it over push the air out. Hold the pistol in position and push all the way again.

The quality of these pens is really good. No cracks or anything the like anymore. The design of this particular one is also not me, though.
That's fair enough - I do like my 580 Diamond & Eco, tho' :)
They really needed to upgrade this pen. I had the original. Awkward and uncomfortable - the only thing I liked about it was the wonderful nib and the filling system. I find the 823 worth more than 3 Vac 700's - which is what I paid for mine.
Glennhkc I think this kind of comparison can be pulled of for basically any two pens in such a different price range 😊.
You're right of course. I just really hated the Vac 700.
I thought that :-). But you're not alone with that opinion.
I had the previous model but because the cap broke around the silver ring, I returned this pen to the shop from where I bought it and I said that I would never buy again a TWSBI pen. Does anyone know if the new version has any issues like this or any other problems?
I have not encountered any issues with the pen in terms of built quality
I love the pen and the editing experience as well as the filling system ...but I’m facing an issue...whenever I open the screw nob from the back for longer writing sessions and keep it open, the ink burps out of the nib on the paper quite a lot of times...is anyone facing the same issue or is there any remedy for the same?

It’s happened to me too! (Vac 700)
Absolutely brilliant Pen. I have 2 VAC700Rs and 2 Vac Minis.
Nice review, the "R" indicates "Redesign" :)
Such an awesome review. Thank you.
thanks!
can this pen be Capped?
You mean capped or posted? Former: of course. Latter: no.
It is a nice pen.... and i lov"ed" it... i used it for 2 days with pilot iroshijuku syo-ro.. but the barrel section of the pen got a huge crack.... Just in 2days,without dropping. Still,It IS a nice pen... but its kinda fragile
Also on the "R", or the model before? I thought they had improved the material. Just curious
Scrively sorry for late reply. Yes, in fact,I had the model before
Nice review mate. Between vac 700 r and twisbi eco what would you suggest? Do you think it worths the price difference over the eco?
Epic Epikouridis I personally like the Eco better in terms of design and feel in hand and I do not feel that the Vac premium is worth it.
Good review. The "R" represents redesigned. The original Vac 700 has some minor differences. I enjoy mine.thanjs for the video. Peace✌️
Thanks for the info! Peace right back
hi there, can you please tell me when you posted the pen did it feel secure to you? thank you
It can technically post, but I do not think it is really meant to be posted. It does not feel very secure and also the pen gets very long and unwieldy.
thank you for responding, i always enjoy your videos and i also liked your video on the lamy aion, i've been waiting for mine for the past month
Thank you very much for your kind words! I hope you enjoy the Aion once it gets to you!
scrively...i ordered the broad nib so i'm a bit scared that it will write like a double broad and i won't be able to use it for cursive writing but my lamy al star in ocean blue writes so well with a broad nib and that's what convinced me to go with a broad
if you don't mind me asking, are you german? you have such a strong accent but i understand you perfectly which is rare for me
the nib is essentially the same, so they both should technically write alike. I am German, yes.
great review love this video
Wish I could afford one
I have a Wing Sung 3013 vac-filler. Very sturdy and performs well.
Happy for you!
R stands for Redesign
You have done well ✅
interesting to buy it.
Cool
Stop saying that thing
Go get a life
Not "cheap" for what it is, a very unpleasant pen (filling it up is a crusade!) and awfully stiff nib.
A Sailor Realo is 4 times more expensive but 10 times better, in every way. TWISBI? Forget it!!!!
I will never buy this pen again. Never never. Becsuse it is fragile. Never recommend to buy one. Waste of your money.
nam ho Kim I have not yet had any problems with the pen. What exactly was problematic with yours?
Scrively a metal part ring of the cap is going to be cracked and seperated i had it three times same problems .
All parts of plastic are really easy to be cracked and broken.
Don't use this pen as EDC if you want to use it more longer.
I don't have a twisbi as a result of this phenomenon - it seems to affect everyone. SBRE Brown seems to be quite vocal about this as well. Pity, as it is a really nice pen.
