For me it happened after 5 months of growing tomatos from seeds until fully grown plants. I was lucky to have no heavy rain during this time and many tomatoes were ready to eat but one day a very heavy rain came for just few hours and next day all tomato plants were over 50% black. Next days the disease came all over my plants destroying all tomatos :( I used very good recomended chemichals but it was worst each day. 3 weeks later all plants died. I dont think we can do anything to stop this fungus.
