Well, I have no experience with drunk sailors singing at the top of their lungs… but I DO know about a bunch of drunk RED SOX FANS singing at the top of their lungs!!!
The lyrics are by Woody Guthrie, the 1950s protest song writer, who inspired Bob Dylan. Famously, Woody had written on his guitar, THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS. T he Dropkick Murphys recorded a whole album using Woody Guthrie's unpublished lyrics. The Irish dancers don't wear clogs, they have metal attached to their shoes. Tap dancing actually came from young Black Americans and young Irish immigrants meeting on street corners and mixing their dance styles. At the time, white Americans considered the Irish to be lower than the Blacks. The two minorities often had relationships, which accounts for 30 percent of Black Americans having some Irish genes. There's a book just published that is called, WHEN DID THE IRISH BECOME WHITE?
That song is so fun live. I've seen DKM at college campus festivals, in Fenway Park, in small clubs, and in decent-sized arenas. Every single one of them was on fire for this song (and for most of the rest of the show, too).

Years ago I worked for a large music store. We actually opened in Boston the day after St. Pats. The night before right behind was “House of Blues”. We actually saw Drop, Flogging Molly and GoGo Bordello on Saint Pats in Boston
