David Benavente 1st Bonsai Demonstration for the Bonsai Association Belgium Trophy 2021

- In this 1st Video David Benavente demonstrates how he can transform a wild and rugged piece of raw Pinus Sylvestris (Scots pine) in to the beginnings of a wonderful bonsai.
This demonstration was done in late 2020 on request of the Bonsai Association Belgium after they were forced to cancel plans to hold the 22nd Trophy exhibition in Genk. Unfortunately covid-19 travel restrictions meant I was unable to travel to David Benaventé's garden in Galapagar Spain. But his team did a good job of capturing enough footage for me to edit two demonstrations together.
The BAB wanted to put out some content around the weekend the exhibition would have been held to show the global bonsai community they were missing them all at this time.

Many people have said this, but David explains that this would be the easy way out and create a tree that looks much like many other out there.

David quería hablar en español e inglés, pero desafortunadamente yo no hablo español. Así que no habría podido editar el audio porque no sabría lo que se decía.
Si David hace otro en el futuro, intentaremos una manera de que tanto el español como el inglés estén disponibles. 👍🏼

how long need to be there on the heavy banding the cotton tape and also the wire wich support the bending? Final result of this Pine is wonderful :D thanks for your videos
David Benavente told me the tape will remain until at least the autumn, maybe a little longer.
The guide wires will remain as long as possible. Not rush to take off the guide wires. They can remain while the tree is developing as bonsai.
the first bend was impressive. it's the first time I see hollowing on the outside of the bend. Usually one hollows the inside so the work is less visible. why did you choose to hollow the outside instead? Very nice work overall and beautiful end result. Lots of movements.

xq no lo haces en. Español? puedo entender solo un 75-80. % de inglés!!! pero igual me sirve de práctica, ten mi suscripción, xq el árbol se miraba un poco difícil y ha quedado súperr su diseño!!
A David le encantaría haber hecho la demostración en español. pero como era para la asociación de bonsáis de Bélgica y quieren que más personas disfruten y aprendan de él, tenía más sentido usar el inglés. ojalá en el futuro haya más y en español.

What is the black stuff he puts on the cloth raffia?
It's keto, it's a clay rich soil gathered from rice fields in Japan. He's only using it to stain the light colour cloth tape to a more aesthetically pleasing darker colour to match the bark.
