Since it rains every day in the summer I wear shoes that can get wet and use an umbrella to block the sun and the rain. Another wonderful video. Thanks for the great advice at the perfect time.
It’s already miserably hot here in Florida, so WDW is a no-go for us in the summer months, but for those that have to go in summer your suggestions are spot-on. I know that people feel compelled to make the most of each day, but less is more. A few enjoyable park hours balanced with hotel pool and activities is the way to go. So many of the hotels have specialized activities for kids like crafting, face-painting, games, movie nights, etc.
Could you hear my cries of "Absolutely!" and "Yes!" as I watched this video up here in Minnesota? As a teacher most of my trips are during the summer (although some well planned personal days have offered some variety.) with my mom. We love a middle of the day break and love to wander the parks as late as they let us. It's so magical!!! I have started using an umbrella to keep the sun off me as well as the rain. Also-the water fountain right behind the castle on the left is always cold. I did learn something new with the body glide for blisters on your feet. I am totally trying that next time! Have a magical trip coming up!
Thank you for the video! I really appreciate how you went straight to the point and didn’t go into a random story for the first 10 minutes like some other videos lol
this topic is so necessary to talk about!! i'm from Mississippi, and i still struggle with how to deal with the heat when i go to Disney in the summer months haha. thank you for making this video!
We always go in June and it’s pretty hot. We carry those small misting fans in our park bag to use when we’re standing in line. That helps a lot with cooling off. And we freeze our water in water bags the night before so they melt through the day. Going in the summer doesn’t bother me if I’m prepared.
Such perfect tips thanks Jen! We're heading to WDW this summer (first trip for our 5 year old) and we're Brits so definitely not used to the heat 😂 thank you!
All the best things of a Jen Lefforge video are in this video, (good advice, voice changes, being animated), except ONE: Singing! Oh well, maybe next time! 😍👨🚒
I really loved how this video was broken up and how it was an appropriate length! I can’t watch hour plus videos on Disney all day long 🤦♀️ I’m from Louisiana so I should know better but January me wants to think Disney is doable this summer. But I mostly want pool time anyway!
California weather wimp here, and oh my goodness you're taking me back to my first (and so far only) trip to WDW back in June 2019. Nothing can prepare you for this kind of heat! I'll never forget opening the hotel door on the morning of day 1 and my sunglasses immediately fogged up due to the humidity. I was in disbelief. Also, I nearly passed out while eating corn dog nuggets on the outdoor patio of Casey's Corner. It was 101 degrees with a heat index of 113!!! It was at that moment we decided to leave the park and explore the monorail resorts (and AC!). Still no regrets, lots of magical moments during that trip, though next time I'd probably prefer January LOL
Thank you so much for the video. These are some life-saving tips! I'm planning to go in August and I'm very nervous about the storms/hurricanes and the heat
Thank you! This is the video I've been searching for. Going for our first summer visit in August. We always go in the winter, so I really needed all of these tips. The hardest thing for us will be to slow down and accept that we won't get "it all" done. I've added Body Glide and extra undies to my packing list!
This is a great (and serious) topic to cover. Thank you for covering, Jen. We live in Orlando and don’t go to Disney or Universal parks June through September because it is too hot for us lol
EVERY time I've been down there in the summer I've seen the stretcher and paramedics treating someone with heat stroke. I HATE that for people on vacation!
I'm from NC, so I can take the heat and humidity. But yes, SLOW YOUR ROLL! With my job, I get 2 weeks of vacation, July 4th and Christmas week. I'm an expert at planning and enjoying hot and packed Disney trips.
Born and raised in the South. That’s why we call it a saunter! It’s the pace that’s not too fast that you sweat but not too slow that you are out in the sun and start to sweat! It’s an art form and it’s with cultivating Y’ALL! 😊😀
We as a fam are going in July. No parks, just hanging out at the pool at the Beach Club. I got the kids the Night Glow tickets at Typhoon Lagoon, should be a blast.
We went to it in 2019 and it’s worth every penny! You can go into the park early and you will be surprised about 20 minutes before it closes to the general population, there are no lines.
All so true! We are usually January Disneyers and we go go go! A few years ago we went in August and it was like being on another planet. Drippy cooling towels were helpful if we had to be out mid-day, but usually we took a break then.
As someone who grew up in central Florida, I can say everything here is 100% true. Florida Summer air is just stagnant. I mean it's just dead. There is zero wind most of the time. The heat is flat and damp.
I use my park fan in the pulpit on Sundays 😂😂. Great tips. I told Marc I don’t see a need to ever go in the summer anymore. Our last august visit was torture!
Great tips, we freeze 1 or 2 water bottles that we bring in a backpack (with snacks) and the bag gets lighter as you get more tired latter in the day. Also all the Canadians are in the pool in Jan and Feb as anything is better than -20C Ha Ha
Bodyglide - yes! Hydration - yes! Washer/dryer - yes! All these recommendations were totally on point. Def felt like you were channelling Blanche from Golden Girls for a minute there and well done for avoiding the joke that every Brit was thinking watching this about a certain person that famously “doesn’t sweat”.
Great advice! I live in Florida and work outside. Hydration is a must. I use zero sugar electrolyte packets to keep me going & those cute Disney cooling towels make great headbands!
CA native here. Was not prepared for the rain. Love my summer whites and realized real quick how see-through your clothes become and how long they take to dry, especially natural fabrics. Please wear color and fast drying fabrics.
Agree 100%! We are going again end of August and while I’m dreading the heat (& rain!) there is so much we love, like our mid day breaks and long meals in air conditioned restaurants. We were just in WDW after Easter and actually got cool weather a couple of days. We were cold in the evenings, like close to December cold, but during the day it was mostly beautiful with high 70s and lower humidity (though windy). I feel like we got the last of nice weather before summer hits.
We bring frozen water bottles and leave in a backpack in a locker. We also put one in a neoprene bottle bag and everyone will just carry it around for the day. We have neck fans and bring cooling towels that we wet in the bathrooms. I agree on getting in the parks early and leaving when the daily inferno begins.
I am one of those people who doesn’t really sweat and I can attest that this can be a huge problem! If you don’t sweat, you have to be super careful not to overheat. Also, U would suggest packing a light weight long sleeve for those AC blasts- esp if you are cold natured- because it is a jolt after being in the sun. Great tips, as always, Jen!!
Thanks for watching Amanda! And YES to a light weight hoody. I always have one in my bag and bonus this year's has SPF so I can also throw it on if I find myself in the sun without enough sunscreen.
I am very nervous! Coming from Calif in mid-June, with no experience with FL or any southern state heat/humidity, and we’re seniors. We will be using mobility scooters, and we’ll only be there two days/three nights with plans to spend most of the daylight hours in resorts, not parks. We’ll do Epcot and maybe some time at MK after dark. Still scared of the humidity though! 😂
Can't dry a bathing suit in the swamp. 🤣 FL heat just hits different. 🌞 ☀️ 🔥 🌋 Fans, cooling wipes, travel deodorant, body glide, blister bandages, at least 2 pairs of comfortable shoes(so you can alternate) are All necessities here. We always take advantage of the extra magic hours/rope drop and we have a nice sit down meal in the afternoon and then we hit the shows and shops. Once it's "cooled down " to Not quite Volcano Temps we go back to the rides. FL Summers are Not for the Faint of Heart. 😂
I’ve lived in FL (Tampa) for 6 years, and it’s been my experience staying at the resorts in the summer is to go to the pools in the morning, while everyone is rope dropping. You get several hours at the pool with low crowds, plus I started going to the parks on or around 2 PM, and most folks were tired from being in the parks all morning, so they are leaving and less crowds😀😀!! Too funny. Enjoy..
I agree. I'm from Georgia (right now I live in Athens just north of ATL) my family from as far back as the 1700s have been in the south, we know heat. It even gets to us, hubby is even from south Ga. and it gets to him). We do all that you said (except the indoor dining) and then more. Be prepared for rain, not just nice soft rain showers but deluges of fast heavy rain. Another advantage of going at night, the rain is usually done by then. I even take a sweater to the parks in summer, because of that darn AC. Going from hotter then the tenth level of you know where to freezing is a shock, especially if you've been glowing (I don't sweat, I'm southern, I glow).
The southern accent was EVERYTHING! LOL. I agree with everything you said. We normally don't do WDW in the summer; however, I earned a Disney trip through my company and as a group we went in June. It was hot, but still magical because we were prepared! ;) Great tips!
I'm going right after you, and I'm a hot sweaty beast, lol!! I'm planning on stretch shorts, very thin tank tops, and a kimono over it because I'm round and over 40! Ha! We do not bring compression socks, we do the sleeves! That way we can wear out preferred socks, and still get compression where we need it. We bring our sleeves into the Parks, for the second half of the day/evenings. We pop them in, and to in our way!
My first trip to Walt Disney World was in 1995 in August I can agree with everything you have mentioned. I am also glad you did this video you reminded me of what to do for our upcoming trip from June thru July. Hopefully, I will see you in WDW if not maybe we will finally get a chance to meet at our Home Park Disneyland!
We’ve always traveled in the summer due to not wanting to take the kids out of school. You are absolutely correct about Disney in the summer! Our family never minded the heat, but we took many breaks, rehydrated often, sunblocked and went back to the resort midday. And yes, I wanted to burn those clothes too! Nasty!
We don't the opportunity to get out to Disney World very often but I have been there twice in June and once in December. We're going again in December :) No more sweating our brains out or having a deluge of rain for 10 minutes :) I will add that I've been to DC, NY in July... no wonder people flee those places during the summer months.
We can only go in August, but we have a great time. I make a Mandatory Meal at 11 or 11:30 in the AC whether anyone is hungry or not-just to get the family out of the heat and recharge. Do a few things more, then get out.
I'm so excited for you; we went for Spring Break. That limited time was actually stressful for us. I've told myself next time we are going to be there longer than a week. I wish I could fit into your suitcase. Have fun! :) Yes, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Great video! We moved to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area almost 3 years ago from TN. My wardrobe has completely changed since moving here. Breathable fabrics and caps are a must for me especially May through October. I also love the shorts with built in undies. We enjoy lots of day trips and some long weekend resort stays in the cooler months. It is wonderful to wear cute cotton Disney tees and wear my hair down during those trips. Thanks for the tips and reminders as we prepare for our upcoming Epcot day for our AP Cosmic Rewind preview!
Planning meals inside is such great advice. When I get that hot, I tend not to have an appetite until I cool down. Also, you can use stick deodorant as a substitute for body glide in a pinch.
Thank you for the tips and advice! I’m leaving to go to Disney on the 9th. I will be there next week. So excited! If you are there the same week I hope to see you.
Great video, we went last year in Aug and it was hot ! But we were prepared we had frozen bottles of water the night before and we took breaks to eat etc. And make sure you have comfortable shoes, comfort wins over style every time.
I needed this video! We are tagging along w my husband for a conference at swan and it will be our first time there in the summer. We always take the afternoon break even in Nov/Dec but I wrote down everything else! We are planning lots of pool time and I am trying to set expectations with my 2/3rd graders that it will be much different than our usual fall trip! 😂
I had only ever been in the summer, but my last trip in 2019 was a spontaneous one in November to try Food & Wine… I was expecting temperatures to be cooler than I’d ever experienced before. I don’t know if it was just luck of the draw or what, but it was still super warm, and I ended up having to buy different, more summery clothes because I was so miserable. So yeah, it can be pretty darn warm even in November lol
Wow this came at a perfect time I’m leaving tomorrow for Disney World. Yes I am staying on property as I usually do. Very exciting and I’ll be excited to watch your videos when you’re finished with your trip.
Love this chat! People need to know, you will be drenched! If you don't have a W/D in your room and you only brought one outfit per day, it is not pleasant. I can never pack light for WDW, too many extras of everything. Thanks for sharing this, it is really helpful (and eye opening) if you have never been.
As a Floridian.. these are great tips! Honestly Florida sun in the summer = surface of the sun!! Hydrate!!! Don’t underestimate it. PS keratin treatments are life here!!
Wow this is so useful.. We’re going to DLP in June, and whilst the humidity won’t be as bad as Florida it could still be hot, with intense sun… Great tips, especially the afternoon rest. We will have toddlers with us so they’ll need a nap…Nanny and Grandad too..😊 Thank Jen…👍🇬🇧
We went to Disney World in July once and I swore NEVER again! Even in October it's still hot but not like I just walked into an oven hot at least. I live in South Texas, I should be used to heat and humidity but Florida is just on another level of misery. Also, monkey butt is so real. We tend to do Disneyland for summer trips since the California weather is usually 100x better.
I have gotten the Disney rash twice. I have read that compression stockings help. It's exercise induced vasculitis. Calagel has been the best to help with the pain and itching, as well as elevating the legs and covering with cold washcloths. Also, monkey butt is a thing and check your seat for a sweat puddle before sitting on Flight of Passage...just saying. 😂
I get Disney rash every time I go! At least when I'm doing more than 2 days in the parks. I just deal with it...once it's really swollen I try to not walk too fast, then elevate my legs at night. Once I get home it takes a couple of days to go away.
Thanks for these tips! I always tell my friends to make sure you wear (and reapply!!!) sunscreen under your chin and backs of knees. I always see people with burns there because of the reflection off of the pavement. The sunscreen also seems to wear off in those spots because of sweat.
I avoid the tourist attractions during the summer for a different reason-it's high tourist season. BTW I'm relocating to Atlanta soon to be closer to family.
I love your comments about summer. I don’t do well at all in the heat - Philadelphia gets hot and muggy and I end up looking red and miserable!! My ideal time is January/early February - comfortable weather and less crowds. And I have to ask - where did you get that hat?? It’s great!
Bravo, Jen! Well said! Some of my favorite trips to WDW have also been in the summer months. My most recent trips were this past September, and December of 2021, and again in March of this year. And, yes, there were days during each of those visits that were into the 80s and 90s. It is very tricky trying to pack for WDW in the so-called cooler months. March was really tricky. Most days were in the upper 70s to lower 80s. One day it was in the 90s. The real surprise was the day that the wind chill was in the 30s due to a winter storm that hit the east coast. Of course, we were totally unprepared for that. But, for sure, the summer months are the most brutal weather-wise. I will be there again this September. When I was working as a teacher, I had to take advantage of the summer vacation months. Now that I am one year into retirement, Yay!!, I can go when I choose to. The best thing about visiting in September is that the crowds are generally lower because schools are back in session and it is hurricane season. Loved this blog. Thanks for sharing!
Bahahaha, I thought you said funky butt-which is also unfortunately true😆 Timely video since my husband booked us at the end of August. I grew up in Florida (we've been away for decades)and thought he'd lost his mind! But it just occurred to me... margarita glasses are rimmed with salt! Boom, fixed!
FABULOUS VIDEO!!! Amazing tips!! Monkey Butt. No joke. 🤣 We come prepared, no matter where we travel. I tend not to plan trips to warmer climates in the summer anymore because my husband has a condition where he can't regulate his body temperature, even in the few hot days we have here in Seattle (last summer's 118° day was killer. We don't have A/C!) But I'm always looking for the best cooling methods for him and in turn, my son & I. We like neck fans, my Scott always wears a hat in the sun and he owns many cooling shirts and cooling scarves. We mostly frequent California (west coast people and we have family in LA). The DRY heat has its own issues. It's a constant challenge - heat and travel. We have great flight benefits and we want to GO! We just need to be smart.
Hey Jen, this is a great video. I'm from Canada and have been here at Disneyworld since April 22nd. The heat definitely found me lol. Great tip for the body glide on the feet. I have a few more days I'll try that. I can now say, I prefer coming Jan/Feb 🙂
OMG YES TO ALL OF IT!! So many good tips for those that have never been in Florida's armpit....I mean Orlando. Sorry I'm from south Florida which is no where near as hot as Orlando in the summer since it's so far from the beach. The drinking water, not all of FL water is that bad, I promise, I think it's just a central FL/Orlando thing or maybe they make it taste bad on purpose so you buy more drinks?!?! We use the powder packs too. So so gross and while yes the taste has gotten better, it's still even noticeable to me in their fountain drinks that the central FL taste just sticks around. We always have refillable bottles at WDW all year round but the extra collapsible ones are great and it's so easy to grab ice water cups at the quick service since they'll usually have it on trays. My new favorite hot weather outfits are the tennis dresses with the built in shorts that have pockets, it's tech fabric and so comfy. Only downside is bathroom breaks since they're like a romper so that's always fun when you're sweaty LOL. We have also carried the cooling towels to ice those up and put them on our necks, that seems to help a lot too but there's nothing that can replace rest time in air conditioning.
L-O-V-E-I-T!!!! "Sweat alot?" "Alot alot!!!" 😆😅😂🤣 You are always a truth teller, Jen! Have a great time at 🏰 !!!
Since it rains every day in the summer I wear shoes that can get wet and use an umbrella to block the sun and the rain. Another wonderful video. Thanks for the great advice at the perfect time.
Do you have recommendations for waterproof/water-resistant shoes? Thank you!
@@rnguyen2516 I wear Khombu sandals. I have been for years and they don’t hurt my feet at all even after a very long day in the park.
@@angelad8841 wow, thank you so much for sharing with me! They’re so reasonable compared to other brands!

Just be cautious with the body glide and put it in a ziplock. I have discovered the hard way, it melts all over your bag and stuff.
@@0mfgeeze yes, that is so true!
Thank you for the video! I really appreciate how you went straight to the point and didn’t go into a random story for the first 10 minutes like some other videos lol
I always say walking through Disney in the summer is like walking through melted butter. The air is SO HEAVY. 🤣
Absolutely always made table service dining reservations to take a nice, long A/C cooled break.
“It’s the humidity!” - Monica Gellar 😂
this topic is so necessary to talk about!! i'm from Mississippi, and i still struggle with how to deal with the heat when i go to Disney in the summer months haha. thank you for making this video!

Yes on the two changes of clothes/undies per day😉
Right?!

I hate the Florida summer heat but LOVE wearing a poncho walking around in the warm rain. Florida storms are awesome!

As a Floridian - yes! Also worth mentioning: Florida summer thunderstorms.
Love this!! We always go in July and our rule is that lunch is only eaten at our resort. It gives us a guaranteed break and AC!

The southern accent was EVERYTHING! LOL. I agree with everything you said. We normally don't do WDW in the summer; however, I earned a Disney trip through my company and as a group we went in June. It was hot, but still magical because we were prepared! ;) Great tips!
Yes having the right expectations is THE THING.
I go in August and I love it, the heat doesn’t bother me at all.
My husband and I are both teachers in NJ, so August is our go-to time. Everything you say in this video is absolutely true. Great advice.
Ahh the swim wear thingy! Doesn't matter what season you go THEY NEVER DRY towels either!
Nasty!
Yes on the kerratin treatment!!!!!!
Great video!!! Absolutely agree that a summer trip to WDW is doable and prep for hot weather. Be ok w/ slower pace and breaks.
This exactly.
My family and I will be down the first two weeks of May, and I think it would be so cool to bump into you!
Please say hi if you see me!
YES to everything!! My summer after plan is always: sleep, shower, swim, snack. Otherwise I will get a headache guaranteed.
We have a schedule and a system that works!
Shower before swim and not after or shower before and after swim?
Thanks for the tips! I have an August trip coming up this summer and needed it!
I am so glad we are going in February :-p
You nailed it! ALL TRUE. Have a great time on your trip!
So true all of this thanks for sharing ☺️. We just got back and the heat is on for sure. Enjoy your trip.
Yes can we tell them to not do that?😂I hope you had a lovely trip!
We brought the collapsible water bottles with us at Easter and it was just wicked awesome. Total game changer
I always need a afternoon nap every day lol
As a Floridian.. these are great tips! Honestly Florida sun in the summer = surface of the sun!! Hydrate!!! Don’t underestimate it. PS keratin treatments are life here!!
Wow this is so useful..
We’re going to DLP in June, and whilst the humidity won’t be as bad as Florida it could still be hot, with intense sun…
Great tips, especially the afternoon rest. We will have toddlers with us so they’ll need a nap…Nanny and Grandad too..😊
Thank Jen…👍🇬🇧
Loved your video. Great tips and you are so delightful! 🤗
What a kind comment! Thank you so much!
Oohhh, I didn’t know about the body glide and blisters! Thank you! We usually go the last couple of weeks of Aug.
We are going from 10th Aug this year for 2 weeks..how do you find the queues at that time or year?
I hope you love it here!
I love you! You are so right! We southerners move slower because of the damn heat! 😂 Disney in summertime is its own challenge!
Work smarter not harder!
I love your comments about summer. I don’t do well at all in the heat - Philadelphia gets hot and muggy and I end up looking red and miserable!! My ideal time is January/early February - comfortable weather and less crowds. And I have to ask - where did you get that hat?? It’s great!
Shop Disney but it’s been several years ago now
Bravo, Jen!
Hi Jenn👋🏻that color looks lovely on you!
Thank you for the avoiding blisters tip with the Body glide product! I've never heard of it being used that way, but that's what I suffer from more.
Thanks for this video. We leave for our anniversary trip in two weeks 😀
There's some deep rooted wisdom there, Jennifer.
Going for my first summertime trip to Disney in June! This was so helpful, thank you thank you thank you!!
Not wrong I went one day in May visiting a friend and yeah the sweat sweat was real lol
Hey Jen, this is a great video. I'm from Canada and have been here at Disneyworld since April 22nd. The heat definitely found me lol. Great tip for the body glide on the feet. I have a few more days I'll try that. I can now say, I prefer coming Jan/Feb 🙂
Gina SAME.
This video was spot on!!
Well thank you! We’ve been there in the heat of summer more times than I can count so I do feel qualified on this one thing lol
I agree with everything you said!
