I love qrp portable (and SOTA) cw operating. The one thing I have not tried is winter qrp in the field - especially at 20 degrees! I'm almost convinced to try it.....almost! Nice video, great job for 500 mW and a dipole.

CW rocks! Portable, QRP cw is even better......... Thanks a lot for sharing this with us Tony. I've been QRP, portable and CW now pretty much exclusively for a couple years. Your little Rockmite works FB!
If you're ever looking to upgrade power supplies for the field, I have some great sources for LifeP04 batteries; light, small and lots of capacity in a small package.

    This is an older clip.
You can change the microprocessor chip from the rockmite against a pico keyer chip sold from QRPme and you have a bunch of new features. One new feature is a bug mode.
    Check it out.

Hi Tony, we actually worked each other today on 40 meters.7.120mhz 2/28/15.
Funny, I stuck around frequency a bit just to call you back, but you were getting
one after the other rapid fire. I gave you my FIST # instead of my SKCC #. hi
Anyway, I was browsing around looking for some help with my Rockmite and ran across
you here again tonight with your TH-cam video. Great Job!! on the video. Hope to cu again on the air.
    Take care and 73

Thank you for posting a video of this "small wonder" in operation. There are lots of build videos but very few showing this rig in the field. I am curious about your antenna setup. I got the SOTA tuner kit from Hendricks and have used a 70' long wire with a 30' counterpoise, but with only a 9V battery I was unable to make any contacts. My plan is to get a 12V SLA for portable operation, but that 70' wire is hard to get up into the trees.

I'm considering getting the 40m kit. I have an LNR (Par) EF-10/20/40 Mark II QRP, as well as a 40/20m antenna. They are perfect with this kind of rig. Also, Whiterook QRP keys from ElectronicsUSA are affordable and small. The PowerSonic battery he uses is great. I have a 9 aHr model, with charger. I'm still learning CW myself.

cool hihi video. I have not built a rockmite yet. Learning code myself. Using RufzXP, Just Learn Morse code, and various instructions from OPs online. Pushing on 20WPM. Haven't had the luxury of a good antenna yet. I need to try a mobile op now with my Tentec 4020 and UPS battery. Wx a bit more reasonable in Texas.
Inspiring watching your tx and rx speed and decode.

I am using paddles and a keyer. I think straight key is yet another skill to develop. More a means of personal expression these days.

OM, you have balls the size of dinner plates. I figure I'm already outside, it's already cold--I've suffered enough. Milliwatts? Forget it. I'm going the full FIVE and several bands. I guess I've just gone soft. W0XO

This was a very good video. I'm just starting to build a RM 20. What are you using for an antenna?

Great video, I have built a 20 and a 40 Rockmite, but don't know the code good enough to use them yet. Do you recommend learning with paddles or straight key? Also what method to learn code. thanks, KB6QVI
