Yeah, but racing on foot would mean that characters like Beat would mostly bump into cars and get hit in the faces with rockets at high speed considering the games were going the Mario Kart route. And it would just be embarrassing to the character if ever outran by a roller-blading human child or a monkey in a ball. And Sonic would have to feel like most other characters when racing considering not everyone would race by feet. It would feel awkward to play a character who's running by feet as if they were a race car driver and play a driver as if it they were Sonic in one of his 3D games. Plus not only Sonic would be a foot racer, other fast foot racers or oddballs (assuming Billy would ride a *gint* egg to race with and Tails being somewhat airborne in his tornado) would not feel nor look right drifting in tight corners due to how they would probably appear in-game if this route were to had been taken.
Shaddy I know. It's why I brought up Billy and Tails for potential racers who wouldn't race on foot but in a weird vehicle that isn't a car which wouldn't look natural to drift in.
I guess for other characters who were also bipedal (that dwarf guy from Golden Axe with the ostrich) it was weird to implement on which is why they also canned it.

Exactly my point nobody else ever gets that, I've played both MK7 and ASRT, and they are both way too different from each other, simalar concept maybe but, as you said MK you'e just racing in water, and gliding, while ASRT you're racing on water and flying, plus the tracks change directions each lap, something MK7 Doesn't do
It's more akin to Diddy Kong Racing than to Mario Kart. The automatic transformations happen like in Mario Kart but the vehicles feel completely unique.
Fun fact: The OutRun cabinet looks identical to and is likely based on a real-life driveable OutRun kart built by a Sega fan. The real-life kart was featured in an issue of Popular Science magazine.
One thing that astounded me about the first All-Stars Racing game was how Ryo's All-Star was literally just a forklift. Everybody else's was all over the top, but nope. Ryo's just got a forklift. At least it was pretty effective.

That's all cool but why the fucking hell did they cut like a third of the roster going into transformed Billy hatcher was my fucking main and I'm still salty that he got a track but Billy himself was nowhere to be seen.
Most of the characters in the first game were from Sonic itself, I like the roster in SASRT because it has more series represented, not to mention that it's much bigger (even excluding Danica, Ralph, and the PC characters that nobody cares about). And only 5 characters from the first didn't make it to the second (and I don't think anyone really cares about that Zombie duo or the Bonanza Bros). In SASRT, we got representation for Golden Axe, Skies of Arcadia, NiGHTS, Shinobi, and AGES as an homage to two different series. Still, it is kinda weird that Billy didn't make it into the second game even with a track. Most likely the developers had trouble with designing the air and water versions of his vehicle (and his All-Star Move doesn't make sense if he's flying in the air).
Jacob They ruined all-star moves all around, EG super sonic was gone and actual interesting moves like Ulala's and Amigo's. Also characters like Pudding steal animations from their series representative. And then there's DLC of characters not even from sega...I'd rather have the Zombie duo than a lot of the added Transformed roster, including that one actual IRL driver that doesn't seem to have anything (or at least much) to do with Sega. Although the new series' that did come in are pretty awesome.
Apparently the devs couldn't agree on what Billy Hatcher's vehicle would look like, until it got to the point where it was too late to work on him. Sad, but it happens sometimes.
AlphaDog ikr, each one of the tracks is so creative and so full of cool details (and I am no SEGA fanboy, mind you) and I love how the items aren't as cheap as the ones in most Mario Kart games, meaning you can win most races based on skill, not luck. Also, extra points for having Vyse and Wreck-it-Ralph playable.

Sega was one of the more agreeable companies to collaborate with Disney on the movie(For contrast, Nintendo sent them specific instructions for how Bowser should hold a cup of coffee.) and Sega included Ralph in the game to help promote the movie and just as a sign of good nature. Disney repaid the favor to Sega by making Sonic one of the main focal points of the cameo gallery, giving him lots of cameos and a semi-plot important scene where he explains how game jumping works.
funny how in the 90's sega was advertised as a mature console than nintendo, but they didnt accept bayonetta in their game even tho nintendo accepted bayonetta in smash.
This franchise is earnestly underrated, and I really would love a new entry. Advertising Full Sail University is about as random as Danica's inclusion in the game though.
I love these games. I know it sounds weird, but I have a strong emotional connection to them. SEGA has inspired me for years and when I played the SEGA All Stars games, I was overwhelmed with a ton of SEGA characters, locations, references and Easter eggs. It was a wonderful experience for me and I hope SEGA continues this series... Maybe even a full blown adventure game with a story.
Banjo and Kazooie were added to the XBox 360 version of Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing, along with the player's avatar, while in the Wii version the player can use their Mii. Some versions of the game also have Metal Sonic as a very hidden unlockable character. The PC version of the sequel has a bunch of playable characters who aren't in any other version of the game, including the Football Manager, General Winters and Team Fortress!

I've always found it so silly that people said Transformed copied MK7 especially when there were multiple games many years before both of them that included the switching of air and sea travel. Transformed did way more with it's mechanics anyway, MK7's gliding and underwater driving felt so eh.
I feel like it should also be mentioned that on the Steam version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, TF2 characters Heavy, Pyro and Spy are playable characters, and that on the Xbox 360 version Banjo & Kazooie were also playable characters. I know its pretty obvious, but I still feel like it should be mentioned to those who never realized this. I certainly didn't for a good while.

I love transformed, it's one of the best kart racers out there - period. I just hope we get to see Sumo again in the future, maybe a sequel, maybe a fighter ~

Literally the only reason to go there would be for networking, as you can round up a bunch of people to make an indie game of sorts, thus improving your skills and building a profolio. outside that, theres nothing really else. diplomas dont mean that much when you apply to companies like activision, what usually gets you a job is a profolio so yeah, the school doesnt teach all that well, but you definitely find people to work with much easier as apposed to just going on gamasutra
I have to agree. I'm a grad and at least I'm doing something with my degree in my industry (graphic design). From what I've seen from myself and others, in most if not all creative fields, it's your work and portfolio that matters. Not the degree or source of education so much.
Yep, if you put the time and dedication into it you can easily learn one of your desired roles in game development yourself. That's what I'm doing been learning, Unreal Engine 4, 3D modeling, texturing, and even animation through youtube tutorials, and other information on the interwebs for about a year now. Its easier than it seems once you get the hang of it, or if you just have a knack for this kinda thing.
I gotta say, that scrapped plot for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is 100% unoriginal, and I do mean that because the plot of a mysterious villain kidnapping heroes from different franchises and forcing them to race each other sounds like it was taken from the arcade racing game which was also a cross-over racing game, Nicktoons Nitro. And the reveal that this villain is Dr Eggman in disguise? Sonic Free Riders already did that! I'm glad that story mode is scrapped.
Okay, that story mode bit really grinds my gears. Their plot concept was good and interesting, they could've one-upped most cartoony racers, but they think "Nah, let's have a basic grand-prix and mission mode for the single player, and call it a day! Who's up for the strip club, gentlemen?". I hope they make a sequel to complete the trilogy, add a story mode, and bring Mario in for fun. Oh, and I still wish Transformed had a competitive scene and I dream of it becoming close to Plumber Kart's level.
Full Sail is definitely not a school for everyone. However it is a very good school if you have a great work ethic. I am a student of Full Sail myself.
Regarding the DLC Poll that happened. I happen to have talked the guy who did the Poll on most SEGA characters! He is called TB. We had a discussion on Skype as S0L said "If someone did a poll, then we may show it to SEGA" so TB pretty much overnight did as many characters as possible, and that is how it came to be! We put it on the SEGA Forums back in the day and advertised it on as many sites as possible; including SEGAbits, NeoGAF and GameFaqs. :) Glad to have been in an amazing community back then.

AlphaDog ikr, each one of the tracks is so creative and so full of cool details (and I am no SEGA fanboy, mind you) and I love how the items aren't as cheap as the ones in most Mario Kart games, meaning you can win most races based on skill, not luck. Also, extra points for having Vyse and Wreck-it-Ralph playable.

Sega was one of the more agreeable companies to collaborate with Disney on the movie(For contrast, Nintendo sent them specific instructions for how Bowser should hold a cup of coffee.) and Sega included Ralph in the game to help promote the movie and just as a sign of good nature. Disney repaid the favor to Sega by making Sonic one of the main focal points of the cameo gallery, giving him lots of cameos and a semi-plot important scene where he explains how game jumping works.

funny how in the 90's sega was advertised as a mature console than nintendo, but they didnt accept bayonetta in their game even tho nintendo accepted bayonetta in smash.
This franchise is earnestly underrated, and I really would love a new entry.
Advertising Full Sail University is about as random as Danica's inclusion in the game though.
I actually hope they do make a sequel with that story mode. It sounds so goofy yet charming.
I love these games. I know it sounds weird, but I have a strong emotional connection to them. SEGA has inspired me for years and when I played the SEGA All Stars games, I was overwhelmed with a ton of SEGA characters, locations, references and Easter eggs. It was a wonderful experience for me and I hope SEGA continues this series... Maybe even a full blown adventure game with a story.

Banjo and Kazooie were added to the XBox 360 version of Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing, along with the player's avatar, while in the Wii version the player can use their Mii. Some versions of the game also have Metal Sonic as a very hidden unlockable character. The PC version of the sequel has a bunch of playable characters who aren't in any other version of the game, including the Football Manager, General Winters and Team Fortress!

wildman101093 PEGI is in worldwide official trailers, even for games made in the US, and it's more specific than just saying "E10+".
I've always found it so silly that people said Transformed copied MK7 especially when there were multiple games many years before both of them that included the switching of air and sea travel.
Transformed did way more with it's mechanics anyway, MK7's gliding and underwater driving felt so eh.
I was never a big fan of Sonic games, but this games was a pleasant surprise. Way more fun than Mario Kart.
All Stars Racing Transformed is a fantastic game and anyone who says otherwise can fight me.

I feel like it should also be mentioned that on the Steam version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, TF2 characters Heavy, Pyro and Spy are playable characters, and that on the Xbox 360 version Banjo & Kazooie were also playable characters. I know its pretty obvious, but I still feel like it should be mentioned to those who never realized this. I certainly didn't for a good while.

game is as good as the latest mario kart games. it was a sega fans dream to see all these awesome crossovers like Skies of Arcadia and Samba de amingo next to Sonic and Tails

Full Sail isn't really worth your time. Nationally accredited (not regionally, what you want if you're going to college) and extremely expensive.
Literally the only reason to go there would be for networking, as you can round up a bunch of people to make an indie game of sorts, thus improving your skills and building a profolio. outside that, theres nothing really else. diplomas dont mean that much when you apply to companies like activision, what usually gets you a job is a profolio
so yeah, the school doesnt teach all that well, but you definitely find people to work with much easier as apposed to just going on gamasutra
I have to agree. I'm a grad and at least I'm doing something with my degree in my industry (graphic design). From what I've seen from myself and others, in most if not all creative fields, it's your work and portfolio that matters. Not the degree or source of education so much.

Yep, if you put the time and dedication into it you can easily learn one of your desired roles in game development yourself. That's what I'm doing been learning, Unreal Engine 4, 3D modeling, texturing, and even animation through youtube tutorials, and other information on the interwebs for about a year now. Its easier than it seems once you get the hang of it, or if you just have a knack for this kinda thing.
I gotta say, that scrapped plot for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is 100% unoriginal, and I do mean that because the plot of a mysterious villain kidnapping heroes from different franchises and forcing them to race each other sounds like it was taken from the arcade racing game which was also a cross-over racing game, Nicktoons Nitro. And the reveal that this villain is Dr Eggman in disguise? Sonic Free Riders already did that! I'm glad that story mode is scrapped.

Okay, that story mode bit really grinds my gears. Their plot concept was good and interesting, they could've one-upped most cartoony racers, but they think "Nah, let's have a basic grand-prix and mission mode for the single player, and call it a day! Who's up for the strip club, gentlemen?". I hope they make a sequel to complete the trilogy, add a story mode, and bring Mario in for fun. Oh, and I still wish Transformed had a competitive scene and I dream of it becoming close to Plumber Kart's level.

Full Sail is definitely not a school for everyone. However it is a very good school if you have a great work ethic. I am a student of Full Sail myself.
Regarding the DLC Poll that happened. I happen to have talked the guy who did the Poll on most SEGA characters! He is called TB. We had a discussion on Skype as S0L said "If someone did a poll, then we may show it to SEGA" so TB pretty much overnight did as many characters as possible, and that is how it came to be! We put it on the SEGA Forums back in the day and advertised it on as many sites as possible; including SEGAbits, NeoGAF and GameFaqs. :) Glad to have been in an amazing community back then.
