@Alptraum He just had common sense. Anyone with an education will know that widespread use of untested medicine will lead to all sorts of horrors. Sadly, what wasn't understood was the effect of these hormone drugs circulating in the water systems and how it would collapse the fertility and birth rates on the long run. If this could have been imagined in advance, the pill would probably have never been released for the public.

The Dick Cavett Show was the best of all talk shows that have ever been or ever will be on TV. For many years now all talk show hosts are owned by either the left or the right and are completely biased. Back in the day a host as polished, clever and witty as Cavett could have an open dialog with his guests and discuss any subject. He allowed them to speak openly and did not interrupt them if they carried the conversation in an unpredictable way. This is exactly what America needs today more than ever.

Nah, Dick Cavett specifically was a really forward thinking guy. He had Hunter Thompson and invited all sorts of wild people, including Mohamad Ali etc. Dick had his own issues of course, like one time he asked Richard Pryor if white people could say the N word. Then again I think he did this in the 80's, and it was probably good on national television to have Pryor smack him down verbally for being casual about things he didn't understand. May even have set there interview up with Pryor, given all the rough racial issues in the 80's. Dick's shows weren't emblematic of normal tv though sadly, most tv channels were like less angry versions of ABC news leading up through the 80's. Sorta moderate but 100% shilling.

I've seen a lot of Cavett in the past 2 years for some reason. I thought he seemed a little awkward or something, but the more I watch him the more I like him and wish our hosts were like him. He asked good questions and he seemed genuinely interested. He wasn't trying to be fancy or overly funny or dramatic.

There are interesting surveys that found out that the calming effects of marijuana often help lessen the symptoms of ADHD, which is a condition that often makes you be "all over the place".
It especially makes thoughts clearer for a lot of people with ADHD (which is the opposite of what happens in many who don't have the disorder) and it helps them be more productive, just like George Calin described. Likewise, ADHDers often don't find caffeine effective to keep them awake, and I have many friends that will take a coffee or red bull and then take a nap or go to bed.

@@jfkgot360agsspecd9 , I would say multiple reasons, starting with education / school budgets cuts that have been going on since Reagan was in office. Followed by less people engaging in actual conversations. By which I mean, more 'shorthand' is being used, so people are using fewer syllables. For example, for over 25 years, people having been using 'Sup' to replace, 'Whats up?'.
I also think theirs a cultural shift, where intellegance is looked down upon. Everyone wants to keep it "Real." As Chris Rock said, yeah, real dumb!

JFK got 360 AGS Spec'd - Long before “Video killed the radio star” television had already destroyed literary society. People used to read books and periodicals as their main source of information. These sources of information were written and edited by masters of language. Reading well written articles every day makes a person more articulate. Ever since television became the norm millions of people sit around watching dumbed down sit-coms instead of reading. The internet has revised reading a bit, but most of what people read is just short poorly written unedited clickbait crap full of grammatical and spelling errors. Educated Victorian children would be astonished at the abysmal writing skills exhibited in the average online comment section. As are those of us who still read books.

carlin is absolutely right, i used to smoke pot almost daily, when i had it. but i would use it in conjunction with many activities, chores or tasks became easier (and almost fun) to do, my ex-wife would go on a cleaning terror when high...i loved to play sports high, basketball, bowling, ping pong. nobody could beat me when i was high playing "pong". in our little group of course, but focus was more pronounced in physical activities, blocking out distractions was easier. musicians have used it for generations. of course there were many times it was used just to kick back and enjoy a video game or watch t.v.
but as far as being a musician, which i was, i didn't smoke pot when trying to learn a piece, or working on scales or theory. smoking was for the part after the serious study, it was used for the "creative" aspect of writing. thinking outside the lines. but you can't be high while trying to do complex or intricate study, maybe for some people but not me. it's different for every person.
