I get corn belt land being high priced, and you really only see a few head on little tracts that would be too rough for row crops, or in CRP, but I’ve been grazing cover crops for 20 years and put 1/3 of my ground in rest every year, which is heavy forage production with heavy grazing.
I can’t see a path to success raising cattle on stubble and buying / selling at the sale barn like they do out west. I run 1000-1100 head including all of them and they are a significant part of my fertility program. I’m direct to consumer and 2 yrs backlogged.

Cow size vs. profit - Are the larger cows in your sample mated to proportionally larger bulls or the same size bulls as the smaller cows are ? Is this a factor resulting in the calf's declining % of the cows body weight ?

I am from South Africa and I am curious to know how much in dollars the embryo costs in your country?

Easy. Just employ feminists and fatten them up and work the non breeders to death till they drop, to provide for the breeders on constant paid leave from work, on an endless pregnancy cycle, to produce more cows, so they can keep breeding and working themselves to death. You need to generate a good solid steady supply of "cows". Few bills necessary. Just a couple of very good fertile ways who must not come into physical contact with any cows because this will interfere with them working eg cause jealousy, envy, fights, disruption etc. All procreation should be done hygienically and efficiently, by a very economical means. AI. No, not artificial Intelligence, though this might also be useful. AI, as in Artificial Insemination ie a test tube inserted into the cows, to instigate each pregnancy cycle, like they do with cow herds in rural Australia. Getting semen out of prized breeder bulls might be hard, as these are often very big boys and not always cooperative in sexual matters. But, since males can be easily conned into sexual "giving", by things like pornography or sexual objects, all it requires to get the bulls to deliver breeding semen for the AI process is some statues of very sexy looking fake cows. Like the types we see plastered all over Instagram and the Internet, in their sexy bikinis etc, promoting whatever crap they are trying to con us into buying....
