- In this video we go back to 1985 and review the classic John Hughes movie, The Breakfast Club. It stars Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy as teenagers from different high school cliques who spend a Saturday in detention with their authoritarian assistant principal (Paul Gleason).
The film premiered in Los Angeles on February 7, 1985. Universal Pictures released it in cinemas in the United States on February 15, 1985. It received critical acclaim and earned $51.5 million on a $1 million budget. Critics consider it to be one of Hughes's most memorable and recognizable works.

1. The woman and little girl dropping of Brian are Anthony Michael Hall's real mother and sister.
2. When I was in High School detention was only an hour. Usually after school but never on Saturday.
3. The late Paul Gleason also played Beeks in Trading Places. A great first time/share HINT HINT.
4. I still call it, "Doobage"
5. When getting loaded Anthony Michael Halls reaction with the sunglasses is similar to his performance in Weird Science.
6. Gleason's reaction to Carl when he says fifty bucks is real it was supposed to be twenty bucks.
7. The acting was outstanding.
8. I love Ally Sheedy. Personally I liked her better GOTH.
9. If you catch it Andrew's dad is scoping out Allison as he's picking up Andrew.
Loved these!! Thank you for commenting!
*Hint received. 😂
Fun Fact:
Shortly after this Saturday Asst. Principal Richard Vernon left Illinois, moved to California and changed his name to Dwayne T. Robinson. He joined LAPD and by 1988 was the Deputy Police Chief. On December 25th of that year he hurt John McClane's feeling by making him feel very unappreciated.
R.I.P., Paul Gleason.
I like your style!
Bender had to have been the inspiration for Skid Row's "18 and Life"
😂 Facts!
14:45 Vernon laments the thick, awful coffee himself, in the hallway, murmuring "Coffee...looks like they scrape it off the bottom of the Mississippi river."
Good call!! Thanks for commenting!
Class of 84 here. Yes, they had Saturday detentions in my high school days.
That sucks! Would’ve made me a better student...
I attended a Saturday detention once. It definitely made me never want to ever go through it again
The Breakfast Club is the greatest teen movie of all time HANDS DOWN! It's the most perfect movie about high school. I wish movies for/about teens nowadays would take a note out of TBC's handbook. You can clearly see how the entire cast puts their hearts and souls into their performances. Richard Vernon is great as a villain. The movie is also a million times better than St. Elmo's Fire. The characters were definitely more likable and plus I thought Ally Sheedy gave a better performance as Allison than her Leslie character. This movie is an all time classic! Great job with the review guys!
Can’t disagree with anything you said...especially the last part! 😂 Thank you so much for commenting!!
The janitor was like: “You punks better not screw with me, because I know where the bodies are buried”. 😂
Right?! I miss the days when the adults were the crazy ones in school.
It's awesome you guys brought up the scene where Claire's getting grilled about her sex life. An SNL skit idea: Recreate this scene, and then have Carl enter frame...Followed by Dick, who starts racking up detentions because she won't "Answer the goddamn question". Then the parents come in...Lol
😂😂😂 That’s a really good idea!
My high school in CA had what they called Saturday School. Yes, detention on Saturdays. I attended 1983-1987. Public school in the Bay Area.
Ugh...sorry you had to do that. You may have a winnable lawsuit on your hands.
Yay you did The Breakfast Club! I loved your thoughts and the PSA’s were as hilarious as usual. I’ve always been partial to Bender and Carl because they were the most interesting. I also called bullshit on Bender and Claire ending up together in the end. He treated her like shit for the entire movie! Unless it was to get back at her parents as Bender pointed out that was a bad way to wrap up their characters.
Please do Pretty In Pink next! I would love to hear your views on James Spader’s character 😁
Pretty in Pink has been getting a lot of requests! I promise we will get to it ASAP...which means 3-4 weeks. 😁
@@KisstheReviews I look forward to seeing it!
Bender and Claire can be stupid if they want...but God, please don't let them have children!
Lady Sheedy ..I'm a fan
She’s amazing!!
So glad you pointed out that Bender was a COMPLETE jerk! I've only watched a couple reviews of this one and its basically "Poor poor baby. He's so tormented." Well ya he probably was, but he was still a prick
He was the WORST! 😂
Great movie! Fun fact is Rick Moranis was considered for Carl the Janitor. I can totally see it working.
That would’ve been amazing, actually...
@@KisstheReviews I can literally see Rick Moranis's face in place of John Kapelos face and they should do a deep fake video Moranis as the Janitor. There was a deep fake video of John Travolta as Forrest Gump instead of Tom Hanks. Travolta turned down Forrest Gump which he highly regrets to this day.
That’d be amazing!
28:06 had me dying lmao anyways this was an awesome review it's such a great movie to watch I don't normally like rewatching lots of movies unless I haven't seen them in a long time but this one of them that I could rewatch any day! Molly Ringwald was one of my favorite 80 movie actresses btw you should do a review on Sixteen Candles or Pretty In Pink both are great!
Thank you very much!! Both 16 and Pretty are on the list!!
I'm 42 this movie will always be classic but who shows up for Saturday school lol
Right?! That’s a negative for this delinquent. 😂
At about 17:45 they should've listened to Bender but Andrew said no. Bender knows the school inside out, so they should've listened to Bender (as he had multible detentions and ventured out to kill boredom), but Andrew is so stuck up his own a$$ and think he's above Bender and gets his way, but they end up in the closed area of the school.
True…but would you? Bender has done nothing that would lead me to believe he had my best interest at heart. It was his sacrifice when they were cornered that ended up endearing him to the rest of the group.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High!
It has been added to the list! Great suggestion!!
Just by the law of averages, wouldn't a school that big have more than 5 kids in Saturday detention??
😂😂 Right?! We had 2k in our HS and our detention was full AF.
Gas station sushi 😂 What's next? Dollar Store sushi?
😂😂 I think the ER is next.
One of my favorite films (even though it has flaws). Great review!!!
Thank you very much, glad you thought we did it justice! It’s an absolute classic. Thanks for commenting!!
My wife and I love this movie and according to the imdb trivia for this movie when they sit in the circle and share their stories that whole scene wasn't scripted
I didn’t know that. They did a great job.
@@KisstheReviews they sure did agree
The prom queen, the athlete, the criminal, the brain and the basket case..only they all have each of those things to some degree..then much more of other things in common
100% Love the writing in this film. I’m a dialogue kind of guy.
Such a great movie I was re-watching it last year during lockdown still A classic
Right?! Crazy how good this movie is…
Great commentary!!
Thank you very much!! Your comments are always appreciated.
Beautiful sharing 👍 stay connect
Thank you very much! Appreciate you commenting!!
The one I've been waiting for ✊
Glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you for commenting!
Man I had like 5 Saturday School detentions in one year smh
Damn! WTF was going on that year? 😂
My school never had Saturday detention
Could you imagine? Fuck that!! Thank you for commenting!
The most embarrassing scene that makes me cringe when I see it is when the kids are playing music & Emilio goes into the glass room, screams & the glass shatters. Like, sure? 🤔
😂 Right?! My guy is a banshee
Seriously! If that's how weed makes him act, I'd hate to see him on meth.
Bender is iconic.
Yes he is!
Awesome review
Thank you very much!
@@KisstheReviews anytime my friend
Dick Vernon was the principal not teacher.
I always had a soft spot for John....with every supposed “bad ass” there’s always a reason and girls will always want to fix it.
Truer words have never been spoken!
I went to a public high school with 4,000 people. They had Saturday detention it was awful. Nothing like the movie. The worse and lowest ranked teachers and proctors would supervise it.
Ugh. Saturday detention probably would have solved my behavioral issues. 😂
So is the scene where bender is up in the rafters and talks
Nice!
@@KisstheReviews yep
So Is bender raising his fist in the air at the end
Wow! That’s very cool. So iconic
@@KisstheReviews yep
You guys are wrong - when I was in high school 20 years ago everyone was having sex and I’m pretty sure with the current direction society is moving in it’s only gotten worse
We usually are! Thanks for watching!!
@@KisstheReviews ofc. Hope that didn’t come off too rude I really liked the video but just wanted to make that one point. Have a great day :)
It’s all good!! I really thank you for watching. 😂
