    For actual real life funny stories that happen on the plane, come through my channel and check out the Flight Attendant Stories series. It'll be a whole bunch of stuff I bet you never saw coming. ;-)
    Tattoos, underwear, hair colour, nail polish, make-up. None of that happens by accident when you're cabin crew. Here's a video on all of the little details you may not have realised are an actual 'thing' in the Flight Attendant world.

Then, when they organised assessment days, I got invited to the interview and I just aced one of them. :) Good luck to you! Hope you will find your dream career!

    it really weirds me out how strict they are about looks for flight attendants. Like what does that have to do with your ability to perform well? Idk great if you like it and feel comfortable meeting those standards but it seems very....wrong i guess

    • @ajcreationsaus
      @ajcreationsaus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      They are not as strict as its made up to be. We are the face of the company. So we have to look good. But it's not army strict or anything :)

      Jasmine M I don't see it as a big deal. it just makes them not look offensive or distracting. they have a uniform, normal haircolor, simple makeup, are clean shaven, and nice clean nails. most jobs have those same standards.

    • @Hypothisos
      @Hypothisos 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's not that weird. Most jobs that have uniforms are strict about it. Take McDonalds for instance. They expect the little 14 year olds to dress to the absolute letter of the dress code or they get sent home. If you're going to be the face and brand of a company, they expect you to dress in a certain way.

    • @jasminem812
      @jasminem812 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Hypothisos I see what you're saying but Ive worked in restaurant chains and retail and had uniforms in both but they never tried to control like my makeup or hair or stuff like that. I guess depends where you work but I feel like it gives a company control over your self expression

    I am not a flight attendant nor do I ever want to become a flight attendant...so why am I watching this video? 😂 Those rules are ridiculous and some are a bit sexist in my opinion. Why must such important and intelligent people be dolled up so much? Looking clean and professional is good but mandatory makeup and nail polish is not necessary.

    • @jonnystrange8960
      @jonnystrange8960 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Megan Lalor well but the women have to put a lot more effort in it with make up and anything, the men just put on their uniform and are good to go. I'd call that a little bit sexist

    • @Misspotterhead94
      @Misspotterhead94 7 ปีที่แล้ว +65

      Forcing a woman to put makeup and nail polish on IS sexist.

    • @CarmenGonzalez-ib5rm
      @CarmenGonzalez-ib5rm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Millie No saying she can't be a flight attendant because she's a female is sexist, having to wear nail polish to look clean and well groomed is not sexist.

    • @Misspotterhead94
      @Misspotterhead94 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      It is sexist because it is forcing a woman to wear makeup. It assumes that all women must wear makeup to cover up features and make them "pretty". They do not get the choice to not wear makeup, it is a rule forced upon them because of their sex. Just like it is sexist to force a woman to wear heels.

    • @CarmenGonzalez-ib5rm

      For example, my job is nitpicky about ending certain pieces of code with stuff, even though it will work without. Her job is about keeping up an image in addition to the flight attendant duties. (Plus, it's Emirates, they're kind of known for it.)

      Monique Cantu Flight attendants are the face of the company, and the males have strict guidelines as well. If you look naturally perfect with no makeup then they won't require you to wear it but you will have to cover any blemishes or dark circles that would otherwise distract from your appearance

    acne scars? visible birthmarks? Weight requirement/limit? Cup size requirement/limit? Naturally curly hair or afro? This sounds like very superficial work. I feel like you couldn't get the job if they deemed you as ugly by traditional beauty standards.

    • @MommyOfZoeAndLiam
      @MommyOfZoeAndLiam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Lucky Duck most airlines used to have strict weight and appearance standards, even age limits. They basically wanted cocktail waitresses. It used to be they recruited from sororities a lot and it was considered very glamorous work back in the 60s and 70s.

    • @ThornRoseLM
      @ThornRoseLM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      no it also has to do with size of plane. So there are a lot of requirements on weight and height. For example you cant be too big and crowd up the aisle. and you cant be too tall. etc

    • @ThornRoseLM
      @ThornRoseLM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      but i am pretty sure with acne scars , the basic makeup rules would cover that, as far as ive known( i used to be a flight attendant), there is no specific rules regarding cup sizes, unless it would interfere with serving food or fitting in the aisles. And i dont know about afros, but curly hair is pulled into a bun, and you wear a cap anyways

    • @MommyOfZoeAndLiam
      @MommyOfZoeAndLiam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Princess yes I understand the weight requirement as far as the plane goes, I once flew on a super small 9 seat plane and they asked everyone's weight and height and they were like ladies and gentlemen please don't lie, we are not judging you, this is important and they even arranged passengers so that the weight would be spread out, BUT back in the days of a flight being a comfortable luxury experience with even coach customers getting things like real actual meals and heck, my mom told me she had a milkshake served to her on a plane when she was a kid in the 50s (and I know my grandparents wouldn't have paid for first class). So I was speaking about the glamorous side of it. It was a great way for a woman to travel and have a job... better than being a bank teller right? Anyway, keep in mind that this particular video was specifically for Emirate Airlines which I have never flown on, but I would assume is based in the United Arab Emirates and is a high class expensive airline, and when you cater to the rich, they tend to have higher standards for the employees.

    This is absolutely insane. You HAVE to wear nail polish?? WTF?? Sorry, but nail polish does not affect a person's ability to do this job, and it's totally possible to look clean and put together without it. And so on, this "dress code" is ridiculous. What a flipping joke.

    • @DevilbirdRobyn
      @DevilbirdRobyn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Shan. • Yes she did...and also specified that you weren't allowed to have bare nails, they had to have at least clear nail polish on. That's stupid. Being required to wear makeup, is stupid. The only jobs which should require wearing makeup are those that are directly related to selling or using makeup. Men not being able to have (groomed) beards, is stupid. Etc. That's my point.

    • @courtneylynn1854
      @courtneylynn1854 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      DevilbirdRobyn then don't work there and stop being triggered. I see nothing wrong with these standards. they all just look naturally polished and put together. not like slobs.

      @clatterslam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Courtney Love In that case, why doesn't the same standard apply for men? Not wearing nail polish doesn't mean you're dirty or something.

  • @ColossalRay
    @ColossalRay 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, I couldn't. The nail polish alone is a dealbreaker - I can't paint my nails well at all, and I pick at it...and my hair is too short to wear in a bun without a shit ton of pins...and I have quite a few tattoos (even though they are all in places where they wouldn't be visible). So much for that future career idea.

    • @mollie6578
      @mollie6578 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      sarahsaysshutup well personally I think any flight attendant should be knowledgable and helpful. If you can't seem to manage that at the same time as being well groomed, what are you even doing there lol. I don't want people handling my food and drinks to look sloppy/hair unkempt. Besides it's literally a service job and all service jobs require a certain standard. It's about taking pride in your appearance and representing a company in the best way possible.

      I would rather have my air crew look impeccable for my leisure and work flight ALONG with skills and knowledge. Different people , different wants. Good looking doesn't hurt anyone. Try airlines with not so strict grooming tips and you might probably not be happy with who comes in to your face to serve you. Just my opinion.

    • @sitaran8497
      @sitaran8497 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      sarahsaysshutup it looks much better and gives a better appearance to the airline. If I pay for first class I don't want to be attended by someone who looks a mess regardless of gender. Also the grooming standards give examples of what compliments the uniform. E.g. Neutral eyeshadow vs Blue which would look bad with the uniform. Also, if you decide to work as cabin crew you know you're expected to dress to their standards before you start the job. If it is really against someone's wishes and they feel they need to express their individuality then don't apply! Simple. Also looking similar in grooming styles and uniform makes the team more cohesive.

    Hey sweets!!! I went to an Emirates open day in April and I know they tell us to wait 6 months before reapplying, but do you know what happens if you show up at another open day before the 6 months are up? Do they keep a record on who attended what open day on a database or something? Do you know if they would automatically decline your application right there if they found out? I really wanna work for Emirates so bad and I feel like I can't wait to re-apply! And also, in your truest of opinions, is 28 too old to apply without having any hospitality experience/studies? Thanks gal, love you! xx

    • @KristineFernandez
      @KristineFernandez  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Ruri!! Girrrrrrrl that's awesome you went to an open day!!! Now you've been through it, you have a good idea of what it's like! I do recommend waiting for the 6 month period to pass coz they do pay attention to that, especially given that one of the key points about this role is about demonstrating an ability to follow guidelines and that sort of thing. I recently just spoke with a mate of mine who had a similar experience with another airline, and the recruiters recognized him during the one-on-one interview and declined his 2nd application based on his too-soon-(re)attendance 😯 Best wait and better safe than sorry I guess! as for your age - no way, that's far from being too old!! As long as you can demonstrate effective communication, team playing skills/interests, compassion, and a mature outlook, then you've definitely got just a good a chance as anyone else! I say go for it girl!

    I get the nailpolish requirements though, I worked in a store in a very conservative town and I was only allowed to wear 'normal' coloured nailpolish. So that's reds, pinks and neutrals. The other colours were considered unprofessional. I can understand that..
    Now I rock silver/blue hair and rainbow colors on my nails though. 😎

That's alright, if you're after the travel side of things, there are heaps of roles out there that could land you some travel; or if you're after a position which will see you as an expat, Dubai's always looking for people in all industries. I have seen several of your and others videos and all of the negatives that are mentioned, I don't necessarily have a problem with, and I love flying, the sensation of being up in the air is my favorite. also, thanks for making these videos! they are very informative and helpful!

      Yeah absolutely!! I totally recommend applying for a job with Emirates - you will never know how it pans out if you don't give it a shot! It may be the best experience for you, it may be the worst; it can hover around somewhere in the middle, but seeing as you will be applying for a few jobs straight out of college, you may as well add this one to the list and see how you go from there! ;-)

    Do they just have an unlimited amount of flight attendants on standby to take your place should you not have red nail polish one day or decide to use 7 visible pins? I can imagine there's a safety plan in place where they must need a minimum amount of attendants on every flight.

      imapineapple15 lol about the 7 visible hair pins. I used to work for Singapore Airlines and we had rosters standby days so you could get called up if say someone did rock up with 7 visible pins lol
