  • BremSter solves "±1" by Math Pesto.
This Sudoku uses the Renban, Ratio Pairs and Knapp Daneben constraints.
Solve in Sven's SudokuPad WebApp: sudokupad.app/...
This puzzle was published on Logic Masters Germany: logic-masters....
This was also solved by Mark from Cracking the Crypic in about a quarter of the time it took me to struggle through the puzzle. You can check out his solve here for comparison: • Modified Sudoku
    📋 Puzzle Rules:
    • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
    • Values along a purple line comprise a set of non-repeating, consecutive numbers (in any order).
    • A black dot joins two values in a 1:2 ratio.
    • There is exactly one 'knapp daneben' cell in each row, column, and box. A digit in a knapp daneben cell has its value either increased or decreased by exactly 1 (e.g. a 3 becomes either 2 or 4). Each digit appears in a knapp daneben cell exactly once. (However, it is permissible for two digits to become modified to the same value, such as both 5 and 7 becoming 6.)

What a great puzzle. I liked the way it always seemed to show a way ahead whenever it seemed to look unlikely.

That melted my brain just watching BremSter. And he solved it with ill brain fog... Well done to him, and well done to Math Pesto.

I seem to recall seeing this puzzle before, but as before, my mind wasn't in the right space to try solving it. You did a great job, BremSter! And many thanks to Math Pesto for a very cool puzzle.

NOTE: Wrong rules on the card in the video, there is no parity renban in this one.

The rule set appears to be broken. Even with 'knapp daneben' it still leads to repeating numbers on the renban line.. So the 9 and 1 DO repeat. Seconds, the rules in the description make no mention of parity constraints on the renban line.

Are you confusing values and digits? Values cannot repeat on a renban line but that doesn't mean that digits can't repeat. eg on the 11 cell renban it has the values 0 to 10 with no repeated value but it will of course have to have repeated digits.
Or are you perhaps looking at the rules on the video rather than the ones on the puzzle and trying to add the KD constraint to that? The rules in the video are from yesterday's puzzle (or at least a previous one) - the rules on the puzzle itself are the correct ones as, I think, are the ones in the description. Your mention of parity makes me wonder if this is your confusion!

Beautiful puzzle and an excellent solve! Solved it in 60:29. In hindsight this was not so terribly difficult, just took a while to find the right deductions.

27:10 A cleaner and more general way to think about that renban is: if the renban line is forced to have the digits that would all abide by the renban without KD cells, like in this situation (when the whole renban is in a box or in a line), then they mustn't include the KD cells because, if one of them is a KD cell, others aren't; so the KD cell would either repeat a number on the line or it wouldn't be a consecutive sequence.
    Also interesting:
If the renban line spans multiple boxes in similar conditions it would have to be even number of KD cells (non-overlaping pairs of consecutive numbers would exchange values) or all numbers would have to be KD cells (I think this one would be possible only if its 2 or 3 lenght line with all of its cells in different boxes, rows and columns) and if you were to take the numbers that would be on the renban and write them out in order on a piece of paper you would have to be able to put an imaginary line anywhere in the sequence even before the first or after the last number and the numbers before the line would KD to a lower value and the numbers after would KD to a higher value.

Also, in my opinion, a neater way (and, it seems to me, the intended solve path) to solve r6 is to notice that for both the renbans that are in r6 and r7 you need a value of 3 and neither can have it in r7 (left one has a 3 that has a value of 2 and the right one can't have a KD cell in r7 and can't have a regular 3 by sudoku). So, the KD cell in row 6 has a value of 3. So, the value of 4 that we need in the left one has to be a real 4 (can't be a KD cell because its value is 3). So the 4 in r6 is a real 4 so the KD cell in the row is a 2 changing its value to 3. After that you can solve box 4 like BremSter and narow down the position of both the KD cell and both 3 values to box 1, and from then on the solve continues similarly to BremSter's.

      @aleksapupovac 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

For the position of 9 in r6 I think it's easier to write down possible values for the black dot fully in the box. Notice all possible values are regular sudoku digits. So, all values must be regular black dot digits (123468). The bottom one is a real value and, by sudoku, it only has 1, 6 and 8 possibilities so the top one like in regular sudoku has to have a value of 2, 3 or 4 (1 can only go with 2, 6 with 3, 8 with 4). And if we put a 9 in r6c8 it would require a value of 6 or 8 in the top cell (value of 5 or 7 wouldn't be allowed similar to regular black dot logic) and we can see it can't have either of those.
