    The night before my visit to my father, I dreamed about this: It's ancient time of those gray brick walled houses, a man with a chicken mask knocked on my door, a couple of times, but this man didn't talk. Though the mask, his eyes sere exposed and there was fear. Walking up in the middle night, I thought about the fact that my father was planning to kill a chicken and cook for me. I immediately messaged my father and asked him not to do it. I liked this dream. Dreams have been a great force in my growth and healing and I am finding ways to learn more and appreciate any comments with resources to dive in this area.

    Hello, Dr. Hollis, I just came here from your "Tracking the Gods" course on Teachable (I loved every minute of it, thank you so much for making it.)
    This inspired me to start dream journaling again, which I haven't in 10 years. Thanks once again, I look forward to enjoying more of your content in the future.

    I am 78 now and the earliest dream I can remember probably 1945. The scene was an ice skating ring with skaters gliding around on a smooth white surface. There would appear circular black holes on the surface into which the skaters would disappear. I was 4 or 5 years at the time and I don't think I had ever seen a skating rink. How did this enter my mind if I had never even seen a skating rink before?

    It's been noteworthy to see how Active Imagination and "Vocalizing" the different parts of my psyche have affected my dreams and waking life. My dreams are less composed of symbolism for the conflict between the different parts on this consciousness, and have become more factual. Why waking life is also quite different. I've encountered two different celebrities I have been fans of and I seek their "Golden Aura" less than before-due to my history with meditation.
    I can't emphasis mediation enough to enhance ones self awareness. It helps one become a sharp shoot in pin pointing subtle thought-feelings.

      Gloria Hester - The waters can be both a symbol for your innermost feelings and emotions etc and your the Unconscious per se with it’s unchartered depths and hidden potentialities. Entering into the realm of our innermost beings by listening to our dreams’ messages can confront us with things about ourself we’d rather not know about (hence our natural trepidation) but also the greatest treasure of all - our creativity and deep sense of meaning, value and wisdom. Learn how to swim. Your psyche is calling you.

    I would tell my dreams to a family member from time to time and would feel angry and shut down afterwards. She always would give the most banal interpretations for the dream such as, it must be from something you watched on TV. I stopped sharing with her for obvious reasons.
    Since studying Jung and others my dreams have become more meaningful and contemplate them afterwards. A dream journal would be a good idea, rather than mixed in with my journal, since it would be easy to see patterns.

    I wonder, if you take a dream and make associations from yourself and give a meaning that makes sense to you, is it just you finding a useful pattern in a phenomena, or is there evidence of a dream being some other part of you is always trying to communicate to you with a message?

    • @JungSocietyofWashington
      @JungSocietyofWashington  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The dream is an intra-psychic phenomenon-no one plants them in us from outside. Whatever its origin, or intent, dreams communicate via mythopoetic process, the explication of which enlarges the ego frame, an inherently rewarding and educative act. Out of such dialogue with the “other,” one is, either way, informed, enlarged, and deepened. JH

    I wish you could help me analyst my dreams. I had been having dreams about one particular child who had been missing for years. I have documented all these dreams and putting these dreams together, I understood what the dreams were trying to tell me. The dream was showing me what had happened to the child before and after she was taken. Showing me the place where she could be found. These dreams comes to me every other day, every weeks, months and years. These dreams begun in 2013 and it finally end in 2018 when the dream was showing me how the perpetrator took this child life from her. Last message I had from these dreams before it ended. "WHEN YOU LET THE WORLD KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO ME. THEY NEED TO KNOW!"
    The missing child cried for help to be found, but the parents of this child and the authorities does not believe in psychic/mediums/spiritualist or dreamers. Now, I am stuck with all these dreams and I'm afraid, they will never find closures to all this suffering.

    Over the years ive had dreams where im in 2 places at once. My intuition says im in this state but im really in my city. I cant really explain it but its a common occurance when i know im in 2 places in a way. Visually in one place and instinctly another.

    • @equennell1019
      @equennell1019 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gregory Swift - You are divided within yourself at present about who you really are. Working with your unconscious by taking notice of, and interpreting your dreams, will provide the “bridge” between the two realms within you, ie your conscious ego’s self perception and the greater Self. Only when we listen to that greater Self are we able to negotiate life with a greater sense of INDIVIDUALITY, purpose and meaning. On a functional level you could say that the visual aspect of ourselves is our ability to see what is physically there (this is our Sensation function) whereas the instinctive is aligned with Intuition, the sensing of unseen potentials. Both are necessary abilities to get us through life, but they can be at loggerhead or one may be neglected over the other. We are stuck in mud while our spirit is in the stars so to speak. So we need an attitude of introspection and contemplation to allow space for both. That builds the bridge.

    I dreamt I was looking for my daughter and I kept calling out "Maev, Maev, Maev!!!" It was like I was chasing her through a big garden. I'm 26 and single with no kids. She could have been just a little girl but I felt she was my daughter. Then I tripped and jumped out of sleep

      That's a beautiful dream, Chris. When Jung asked his soul who she looked like, she appeared like a girl. (Oxana from the Jung Society)

    • @equennell1019
      @equennell1019 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Chris Connor - Hi there. I was intrigued by your dream so I looked up Wikipedia re Maev. Interestingly the name is Irish in origin (female) and means “intoxicating” or “she who intoxicates”. Significantly it has strong links to mead, an ancient honey wine typically consumed during a marriage ceremony. So there you are. Time to settle down and get married perhaps? The tripping and jumping out of sleep part of the dream is interesting too. Perhaps that further underscores the theme of being prepared to take a risk even if it means tripping up and falling (making a mistake). At least it makes you wake up, I.e. become conscious, which is always better than wasting your life in an intoxicating garden of eden fantasy where no responsibility need be taken, but nothing moves forward either. Hard stuff, I know.❤️

    I have hade some recurring dreams and the latest one is about me being in a room, and it’s full of pictures with frames and a locked door. When I look around I always get conscious in the dream and my first intuition is to open the door but when I get near it I can feel a very dark precense behind it. When I open it everything is dark behind the door and I can feel this terrible fear that something horrible is there. I fight the fear and try to step my foot inside but I always wake up after that. I think the fear is to big for me to handle. After when I woke up I reimagine myself in that room and me walking inside and all of these horrible images of dark creatures flashes inside my head. One of them was a female humanoid octopus with a dark aura that sucked the life force of humans. I don’t know what to make out of this, any help?

      I'm not into Sci-fi that much Never bothered with star trek etc and the last sci-fi themed show I watched was westworld last year. I don't think the dreams are thematically associated with real life observations. I think they're more to do with the underlying structure of my dreams, communicating with something that is unknown. I'm Familiar with priori knowledge from Kant but I don't know what you were trying to say Vincent.

      Mind sharing ur dream with me via email?

    • @equennell1019
      @equennell1019 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacquez Hanzel - I realize that it is a long time since you shared your dream on-line about the aliens but I will give you my feedback any how. The battle with the aliens could signify some sort of ALIENATION, either from aspects of yourself that are nevertheless there and demanding attention, and/or a concomitant sense of alienation from the earthly realm, including other people and life in general. Perhaps, in a sense, something is “killing you”, but for as long as you see that something outside yourself (ie you project it onto the world out there) the benevolent and healing aspects of your psyche (the “strangers” cannot enter the battle and help you. So, the answer is to identify where and how and why you feel alienated. Go within and make understanding your dreams a priority. By doing that you will forge a strong alliance with your psyche and get to know yourself better. That is what will ultimately enable you to make healthy relationships externally and feel connected as opposed to alienated. That which we reject about ourselves inevitably comes to bite and “kill” us from behind.

    I'm working on a theory of dreams
    That makes me think they are not what they seem
    Strange yet familiar
    But they feel so real
    Where do they come from
    Where do they go
    Some are like old friends
    Some like familiar foe
    Some a bit of both
    Some shock
    Some shame
    Some are just insane
    Where do they come from
    Where do they go
    Many are those who claim to know
    It's God speaking some say
    He's pointing the way
    No, no, comes the counter claim
    Dreams come from worries, fears and uncried tears
    Perhaps
    Perhaps not
    Maybe those who mine the brain will strike it rich
    With a new reality show
    Who wouldn't watch another's dreams
    With commercials and a proper viewer caution of course
    Okay, Okay
    Let's get real
    The very thing I tell myself when dreams disturb my rest
    With past tears
    Future fears
    Or longings unfulfilled
    Where do they come from
    Where do they go
    My theory is that dreams
    Are nightly thought streams
    Flowing without our knowing
    Leaving only silhouette shadows
    Cast by the dawning light

About a month before he died i had a dream he was dying, it was very life like and felt very real the only thing that was different in the dream to reality was the position of his bed. In the dream i knew to turn him on his side to get him to vomit and then he survived. But in real life he died. It's not appropriate to give our interpretation to somebody's dream as we most likely will project our stuff on it. This work is normally done with an analyst as you touch very intimate layers of your psyche. One tip is think of the dream more as a metaphor and not as actual events. For example, you may think of a child as your "inner child". It could be that that part of you that's "child-like" needs to transform in some way. But these are just my thoughts. Read more about dreams or there's an online course also at www.jungmasterclass.com Thank you for asking. Oxana.

      Psyche TheFurrySinger - I don’t have the same reservations as Dr Hollis about helping someone understand their dream Maybe that’s because for me it is an act of love and compassion and a reaching out to someone who has a need rather than a lucrative $$ business as it is for so many so called professional analysts. Please don’t misunderstand and think that I am denigrating the content of Dr Hollis video and it’s teachings, but I would argue that if you really want to know about Jung’s perspective on working with the unconscious and it’s manifestation via dreams, read him for yourself. It is SO worth it. Write down your dreams and reflect on them. You will gradually establish a dialogue with yourself that will enrich your self understanding and sense of meaning.
      Re your dream I am wondering if the old man with the gun might not be a censoring part of yourself that continually tends to shoot down (denigrate and dismiss) growing potentials within in yourself, eg creative talents/ideas of some sort, which are depicted in your dream as many children because they are ideas and talents yet to mature and take their rightful place in the world. Furthermore, the dream emphasizes that they are “parked” in other people’s care and therefore not potentials which you are taking responsibility for, but rather write off as being in other people’s domain. Sometimes we have amazing, creative, unconventional inspirations but we constantly shoot them down with negativity and self doubt, or by listening to other people’s negative opinions all the time. The convenience store motif in the dream highlights the fact that often it is just all too hard for us to contradict the nay sayers , ie easier and more convenient to just give in and not try. This attitude leaves us with a feeling of emptiness (unfulfilled). The old man in this sense can also be understood to be the archetype of conventionality, outmoded thinking and social censorship that does not like what is new and unconventional by way of ideas or self expression. ❤️
