It only records in .avi format ...? I would expect .mp4 ..
Questions you might/ might not know. When SD memory card fills, is the device up to date technology to start auto overwriting oldest files? Also, Does this have a built in WebServer (Important) like older Foscam cameras?
You can choose to overwrite old files or stop recording when full. It does have the webserver so you can access the R4M through your browser.
@@SkillBuilder I bought this and Returning.. Here's what I wrote to Foscam.. I have 5-6 of these cameras over the years. Their support are idiots..1.) For our company to use this software we need legacy compatibility with older cameras. Also, in the older cameras , there was a feature to monitor Mulit-Camera 's. The newer cameras Webserver does not have this feature.
Additionally, the new cameras can not be added to the old cameras Multi-Camera items. This is bad since there is no option out of the 2.
2.) The webbrowser plug-in are NOT compatible and constantly conflict. When the plug-in for the older cameras are installed, the New camera wants to install newer version. When newer version is installed the old camera wants to install the old version again.
Bad plug-in software to begin with, only worked in Internet Explorer)
Nice review, I've got an older Gen Foscam and it does a good job. Little question but is there a detection area option? If you wanted detection in a specific area, if you know what I mean? Cheers!
Hey Bikerchris, you're back! You are correct and I didn't point that out. It's very handy to have a detection zone and this one has a scaleable box that lets you choose the area of interest.

I live in a 1900 Terrace house. How much would it cost for two outside and two inside?? It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. Also I’m a technophobe for sure???? What do you connect them two??? I do have an iPhone 6. 💖🙏
I'm not so sure about criminals not knowing about the NVR. If they see a camera they may try to find an NVR. 2 solutions: Either offer up a dummy NVR that's obvious to see, or use a mix of cloud cams and NVR cams. The cloud cams store video remotely and cannot be stolen.
I think most thieves aren't even bothered about hiding their identity beyond a hoodie or ski mask. I think the best place would be a kitchen cupboard.
...so it cannot record to a ftp server? Only sd or cloud plan?
I couldn't see any option to automatically upload the video files using FTP with the Foscam app

It doesn't look all that inconspicuous to me. Much better if you could hide it in a teddy bear, like the one that Robert De Nero had hidden away from "meet the parents, part 2". Even better. Hide one in a dildo. I did that and it worked a treat. Finally found out where my Hilmor pipe bender, 40 pint home brew barrel and bike helmet went. Not saying she's a big girl, with a large gravitational mass, but I refer to her "black hole" as the event horizon!

Which SD cards are compatible????
I'd go for SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston or Toshiba. Cheap unbranded cards can be unreliable.

@@SkillBuilder Yeah, it works well with this hi-resolution camera. The camera specs say 64gig, but that was probably just all that was available when the specs were written. Foscam website has a formatting tool to use with the SD cards. No issues with the 128 gig cards at all...except the price. I got mine at B&H photo on line. $85 with tax and shipping included. But, it is a very high end card.
Who can hack into this system you said that it is CCTV but I am asking the question if it is digital that means the powers that be can hack into yr system the is no doubt a back door to these systems??
Why am I not able to connect to my wifi?
You need to connect with a cable first and then choose which WiFi network you want to use before disconnecting the cable.
@@SkillBuilder thank you for your help i did finally get a connection but then I had to reboot my computer because my internet was not on. Hopefully it will be ok now. Should the red lights be on around the photo eye?

It usually means that it hasn't been tested with a SD card larger than 128GB. This does not mean that you are unable to use a larger SD card, neither does it mean you can lol (its to cover there ass)

Thanks but no thanks. Any "security" system that is attached to the outside world is inherently insecure.
If you are averse to connecting to the outside world, then this product is not for you. I know people who put sticky tape over the front camera on their tablet, now that's secure!

Foscam's are cheap as they are Chinese. Still not found any good Chinese software. We have hikvision cameras but the hikvision software is god awful.
