I had one when they first came out, Back when the turret was slaved to the pilot. It was tough, but very slow, like 130. At that time all it needed was speed and it would almost equal a Hornet. Of course in all of CIG's wisdom, nerfed it into the junkyard. I soon after melted mine for a Freelancer MIS, because it handled the same and had more firepower after they nerfed the Gladiator. If it ever gets the love it deserves, I will do the buyback option, because it was a very fun ship to fly. Just don't get a wing tip shot off, cause landing gear.
I really like the Gladiator and I like the design principal being that it is meant to be a carrier launched bomber, as such it makes sense to have limited range on its QT. I think my main source of irritation is the top turret but I understand it's taking inspiration from WW2 torpedo bombers and a certain major IP's bombers. I would like to see the turret slaved to the pilot when no gunner is present, and I know this was the case at one point, but I doubt we'll see this again. I think we'll see its relatively weak shielding remain, as from memory it was meant to rely on its armour to see it safely back to the carrier but we'll see how that pans out in the future. I'm definitely looking forward to running this from larger ships owned by some friends.
I love how they gave this ship subtle WW2 american bomber queues. I cant point to exactly why, but it gives me, Avenger or Dauntless bomber vibes as soon as I see a Gladiator.
Looks like she just got a pretty substantial buff too. Uppped the main guns and secondary missiles both to size fours and traded the two size one shields for a single size two.
Thanks for rating my baby so high! Personally, it + liberator have a nice setup. 1 player 1 npc, liberator carries spare missiles and ballistic ammo. park it out in the middle of nowhere, unload gladiator into a connie or something. go get the liberator and put the broken ships on its parking pads to sell to a reclaimer whole. or make a pile of them on a patch of dirt, and sell that location. Its a shipbreaker, pre-salvage. liberator just provides beds and range for it. way out in the middle of hostile systems ballistics will be rare, suprising people with a fully loaded ballistic gladiator and torps at point blank it could jump most medium class ships.
It's in the category of: a don't get me wrong ship. The advantage of pilot would have is that alot of players are not familiar with this ship and what it's capable of
There are bubble shield, front/back, and quadrant Shields for size 1, 2, and 3+ respectively. While that means your shield health is divided, those types of shields you can reallocate power around and you can roll to put the enemy on another shield face.
Would have loved more comparisons with the harbinger since both this and that carry size 5 missiles. Harbinger has longer range and a heavier guns but I imagine the 2 handle quite differently
Yes! The harbinger handles much heavier, has an interior and is also 200+ more dollars. The health pool between the two aren’t dramatically different but the harbinger has two size 2 shields boasting its durability as well as more overall firepower. To be honest the more I talk about it, the two don’t really compare. While they both have size 5 torpedoes the gladiator is more so compared to a hornet or something in that general class.
@@EvenLease44I’m not trying to overwork you, cuz you’re doing great work, but I’d eat up comparison videos. Just an idea (that’s you’ve kind of mentioned before!)
A decent ship, but is old. It was more useful when the turret guns were pilot-controlled, but back then, they were only size one. And if you're going to have a second gunner, you may as well be in a hurricane or scorpius. I still dig it, though. One of Hobbins designs (he also designed the original mustang).
I see this comparison a lot. They really feel like two separate classes of ships as the only thing in common is the Size 5 torpedoes. Like this ship is a Light "Bomber" while the Harbinger is like a Heavy "Bomber".
That’s hard because the only thing comparable is the fact they both have size 5 torpedoes, honestly the harbinger has much more going for it but the price point reflects that. IF I had to choose between the two I’d pick the harbinger all day long.
Curious if you could do a review on the Aegis Sabre? It's kind of a weird ship that has TERRIBLE capacitors, but flies similar to the Gladiator. I've been trying to use it for PvE bounties, and am waffling on melting it, because it just feels...idk, bad? Or maybe I'm just an awful pilot..? Dunno.
Yeah it’s on my soon list, I’ve already started messing around with the ships. And you are right, the capacitors can make or break a ship and it doesn’t help the Sabre one bit

The Gladiator has a bubble shield like all light fighters so its a single unified shield so its health is not divided up across 4 faces.
You’re right. And now that you mention it, I even remember that when fighting bounties. Thanks Mysteic!
Do the larger shielded ships protect the whole ship???
It used to have a 6 sided shield, when first released, that's what made it so tough.

That's an amazing lil scrapper that packs a serious punch.
Havent played since 3.14, but this ship and the hawk were always my go-tos, love em

This is such a cool ship. I love the f7 and this, just for the vibe I get from them
hope everything is ok with your family. Nice video as always.
Thank you I appreciate that!
Thank you for the vid hope the fam is ok worth a sub!
Love the overviews. What ORG are you ?
I feel like this ship really needs an update pass. The Vanguard Harbinger just replaces it in almost every case, but you do lose one Torpedo
I see this comparison a lot. They really feel like two separate classes of ships as the only thing in common is the Size 5 torpedoes. Like this ship is a Light "Bomber" while the Harbinger is like a Heavy "Bomber".
Would you recommend this over the Vanguard Harbinger? Also, congrats on actually taking down player bounties with this ship. That's not an easy feat.
That’s hard because the only thing comparable is the fact they both have size 5 torpedoes, honestly the harbinger has much more going for it but the price point reflects that.

Two arrows, a Sabre, and a gladius is the player kill count so far in the past week. The weapon capacitors really make the difference.

Y Wing of SC
Can you actually use the storage?
Hope your wife gets better fast.
Thank you!
Absolutely amazing looking ship but rather useless in the game right now.
Nobody uses stock shields... Why bring that up?
