Wonderful inviting touches with the bookcases in the dining room. Great use of space. I’m going to have to “borrow” that idea of the drapery over the front door. Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your kind words! We love our home so it's heartwarming to hear that you all are enjoying it as well. Thank you, thank you! Just to clarify, of course I cook. The kitchen is not for show. I am just not a great cook nor a great gardener (clearly don't know my Cactus from my Cacti). I sure do love and use my fireplace but don't fret the AC comment was tongue in cheek, no need to call the EPA. As for all the questions about sources, I wish I could answer them all but I've decided to enroll in culinary school so I simply don't have the time, but I did list them on Homeworthy's Instagram post so please find them there. Thanks again for the lovely messages. ox
Your curated style is so encouraging as my things also have a story & I am not quick to trade them in. Also as a former SoCal native your good fortune of living in LaJolla is a dream! When we left CA I learned that home is where my husband & children are. Thank you for the most beautiful tour on Homeworthy.
Hi Leslie, thank you for sharing your incredibly warm home and all of the personal touches! It’s truly inspiring. Can I ask what off white you are using in your main living / dining areas? It feels warm and neutral and complements the rest of the home well. You never think about how many whites there are until you try to pick one!
This is one of the best home tours I have EVER seen - I so enjoyed it. The style, the design and Leslie's sense of humor and humility - thank you for your honest thoughts on your house, etc. - grout is easy because you don't cook, etc. and the fact that having five children as not changed your sense for design and beauty, What a great job and such an inspiration! Please do more!
Ok, help me out here. I'm in Scotland and a mum of five and I'm struggling to understand the don't cook part. Order in food every night? How can that work out healthy? Has a cook that brings home made food? "I want a cooking mess in the kitchen".... Without cooking?
@@KJ-lb4tj you can not cook and be healthy in California (and NY, Hawaii, maybe some others states) wholefoods and many supermarket sell home cooked, healthy food. When I travel there I am always surprised how easy it is to go to quality supermarkets and buy healthy prepared food that is not your usual frozen or overly processed food
My favorite part of this home is that when you are inside, you don't know what part of the world you are. It's comforting. It's collected. it's a dream. Nothing is sterile or trendy, yet it feels so "present". I absolutely love it, and it's such an inspiration for my own home.
If I’ve ever seen a Homeworthy that reminded me of my own home, and style, it would be THIS ONE. There is no particular trend or theme or style and I love that! Everything goes together. Luxurious, light, airy, classic, traditional, beachy, Americana. It ALL works in harmony! My favorite Homeworthy thus far!
This home is even better in person ..glorious on the screen but even more spectacular in person . I know Leslie . She is a tremendous cook , hostess and yes so funny. No the AC does not run when fire is roaring . That stove gets a lot of love. Perhaps a bit of humor that was not picked up while filming. It’s such a delight to have this home shared to many. She is not only a fabulous designer, hostess but most importantly wife and mother.
Such a great California home. would you be able to tell me how high the ceilings are on the main floor? They look to be 9 or 10 feet? thak you sooo much!!!
I love the eclectic style. I believe a home should be filled with things you love. Not matchy and formal. I love, love, love everything about this home.
My favorite home tour so far. I see a lot of east coast influence in her style . This is one of the most beautiful and desirable places to live in California.
This home is stunning! Cozy and serene, yet interesting, with surprises at every turn. It feels as though you could walk in, relax and be welcomed into the "home" immediately. Love her style, philosophies, patterns, and creativity. Truly lovely. One of my favorites!
Lamp-o-clock, I love that idea! Ambient lighting is VERY underated! Glad you use your fireplace. So many never do. I need to incorporate this idea for stress relief and sleep hygiene. TFS
The mural is absolutely genius! The whole house has a sophisticated classic California vibe, makes me think of an elegant old school restaurant (in the best way possible) with the beautiful light fixtures, dark woods and neutral elements layered throughout. I agree that this is the best tour I’ve seen on Homeworthy and Leslie seems like a really down to earth and relaxed person which reflects in her effortless style.
I’ll never have a home like that but the reason I like watching videos like this is because I fine ideas I would never have thought of that level up my own space. Her love of the ocean is how I feel living surrounded by woods. The birds, wild life, privacy and serenity.
I have visited La Joya a few times and it is spectacular. This home is filled with sunshine, coziness, chic, and a bit of a nod to New England I think. The owner has a beautiful way about her and I can understand why folks would hire her and her sister to do their home. I also love that she encourages us not to be fussy and to enjoy our home. Wonderful!
This is one of the best house tour on Homeworthy! It's perfect, every space is incredibly cozy and beautiful to see. The combination of functionality and beauty is wonderful. A perfect perfection ❤. Thank you very much 🙏
This is your best homeworthy tour ever. The homeowner is authentic and living a real life. The location itself is at a price point that few of us can afford but the home itself and her ideas are all approachable. I really like house she shared that she felt the nomadic life to Hawaii would be stressful yet she quickly learned that home is where the heart is. Putting all of that aside, she is incredibly talented. I am going to apply some of her ideas to my space.
This was probably one of my favorite tours. The style of the home was so approachable, maybe not the location, but the way it was decorated truly felt like a home. We all appreciate a styled home or we wouldn’t be watching this channel, and it felt very much like my own home. New and old, high and low. Curated, but comfortable. I loved the kitchen! I am very intrigued by kitchens that are more of an extension of the living space instead of very “kitchen-y”. It had all of the elements to cook and prepare, but it wasn’t cluttered with appliances. I will probably revisit this tour to gather more ideas for my own home. To LIVE in La Jolla…😍 It has been one of the most soul-stirring places I have ever visited. The majesty of God’s creation as the waves crashed upon the rocks, the seals lazing on the beach, the caves…stunning.
Obviously the most impressive part of this home tour is the mom, Leslie. The love of her children, husband, and pup shines through during her walk through. That says a lot considering how perfectly styled she is, as well as the beach house. Inspiration here, but in a deeper way than fabric and rug patterns. It was truly a delight to watch this show. ty
What is most special about this fabulous home is how the interiors would be perfect anywhere. Comfortable, yes, but also classically refined and warm. So enjoyed watching, while hearing the rain outside.
I'm only halfway through, and my heart is beating at every room. This is 100% my style, and I'm trying to convince my husband to redo the first floor. I'm totally saving this video for inspiration. I had to stumble here for a reason. You have amazing talent. Your house is beautiful, and thank you for sharing!
What a phenomenal home tour. Leslie is so skilled at speaking on camera, and her home is just beautiful. I love the leisurely pace of the tour, and how much detail is included without ever becoming slow or tedious. I paused the video in the middle to rearrange a few things in my own home so that I, too, can have a lamp in my kitchen. If M+M had a TH-cam channel I'd be in heaven.
She has worked so very hard to make this her home and with 5 children along with working in design -- she has her hands beyond full but somehow seems to pull it all off with practical flair and style! I can see where this home would be a haven for lots of friends and family -- just come on in ! Home is your safe space and certainly she has gone all out with comfortable pieces to cozy up in. Love the fireplace and agree 100 percent --- I too, would have it on as much as possible -- turning on the A/C to cool the room down -- hilarious -- but totally get it and would be doing the exact same thing! Thanks so much! Many years of happiness in your home!
Ha we do that in Texas too, not in summer but sometimes mid fall when its not quite cool enough but just feels like “fireplace season”. Also sometimes just use an iron 5- candle holder in the fireplace and light the candles. That flickering light is so inviting and calming.
EVERYTHING done in this house is magic! This collected, cozy and comfortable home is exactly what many of us long for in our own homes. You are very talented and I love all the stories behind each piece that you have collected. And the icing on the cake is that this is a family home ; kids and a puppy !
What a lovely and comfortable home. I love her decorating style..a mix of old and new…nothing too precious. Just relaxed and homey. Thanks for sharing.
So far this is the only House Tour i enjoyed watching and finished till the end! I love how the books are displayed. We don’t need a huge house to make a beautiful home, your home is an excellent example.
This is definitely one of my favorites so far. It's quite English in some ways, interesting beautifully curated and yet very comfortable and feels like a home, not a show home like some homeworthy properties . Love it ❤
This video is a breath of fresh sea air. The cottage's cozy and chic design is both stylish and attainable, and the tour feels like a coastal retreat. It's the perfect inspiration for anyone looking to bring a bit of California beach vibes into their own living space.
This too is my all time favorite homeworthy tour! Both the home and Leslie were real! Thank you for all the decorating tips. One thing I would love to see, is a homeworthy tour of Leslie’s sisters home!
Leslie, I love your home! Relaxed elegance. Your accommodation for your children is heart warming. There is an order and design to each area with a place to be yourself and enjoy. Candles and a lamp in the kitchen....I am in. You haver designed for light in each room. I feel so happy just watching. I will go back many times to watch this wonderful inspiring home.
I grew up in San Diego & I love the charm of many parts of La Jolla, Bird Rock being one. As a young girl, I had a friend whose Mom was a DJ for KCBQ, they rented a little apartment above the Cave’s shell shop. I have the best memories of that apartment and exploring along the cliffs. I’m happy this family landed this home as their children will have a fun filled, carefree area to explore & enjoy. I love designers like this woman. Down to earth and practical. Beautiful home.
I agree with you. I was raised in a home filled with primitive antiques. My Mom used everything. As children my dresser was well over 200 years old. She taught us that use what you have and learn to take care of what you have. I love your home and the way you decorate. Just beautiful.
This house is exquisite! It's so comfy, cozy, inviting and beautiful all at the same time. I can feel the happy vibes the owner describes. This home is my all-time fave Homeworthy house.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this home!!! Beyond cozy! Too many things to name that I love. The mural, the tile in the sun room, the kitchen stone wall, the living room was bright and airy, all the decor is just perfect!
Before she even mentioned "soul", I thought to myself "this home has soul". That's really the essence of what I felt looking through this lovely, lovely house.
I love, love, love this house and her style! My tastes are very similar only she expertly pulls it all together. I would take a beautiful but comfy smaller house like this over an expansive home any day. Of course the views and proximity to the ocean helps. Bigger homes never seem to be able to totally capture that cozy, homey vibe. Well done! My favorite!
I think this is one of the better tours I have seen. I loved the beach and natural elements portrayed here with such good taste. The contrast between the antiques and white wall were simply beautiful. Thx for sharing.
Greetings from Alabama ~ something different to watch for a change..getting out of Texas was a treat for me to watch. California is so beautiful and not to mention expensive to live there as well. Leslie's home was such a breath of fresh air and unique and we can all appreciate her touring us through, all the way to the top. Great video Homeworthy. Great start up with this one for 2024!! Enjoyable/yes.
That was one of the most beautiful homes I've ever seen and also I enjoyed the great tour guide. I grew up in La Mesa but my great uncle had a big house overlooking the bay in Point Loma ... Spanish Revival. Loved that house and all the views and furnishings. Since my mom named me for him, somehow I foolishly thought he would will it to me one day. 😊 He passed away when I was in my teens and his third wife got the house. I still have all the memories. That was a beautiful tour, so thank you.
What an amazing job she has done to erase the 90s and builder grade elements. Such an elegant, gracious and inviting home. Leslie is a wonderful guide and sounds like a great host.
This is the best home tour yet! It reminds me a lot of our home in Newport RI. I love all her fabric choices and mix of antiques. Everyone is going so modern and cold, this house is warm and relaxing. She has done a wonderful job, such a beautiful home!
This is one of my most favourites home tours. La Jolla is so beautiful and this home is absolutely perfect right across the street from that amazing view. I love the mix of antiques (liveauctioneers, yes) with all those gorgeous textures. Wonderful art, gorgeous rugs, I love it. And wow, that entry is so lovely. Leslie has done a fantastic job of giving this home a lived in, loved in feel.
This is my very favorite Homeworthy Tour!! I really love this home and truly grew to like Leslie, her style and her realistic honesty.I appreciate her knowledge and all the down to earth narration on this tour of her gorgeous and at the same time, completely inviting home! I loved that she shared her story about how she arrived at her current place in life as an interior designer!
You have succeeded in resurrecting a structure that clearly had little architectural integrity. I was riveted to the timelessly elegant home you have created. Absolutely love every bit of the beautiful home you have so elegantly decorated. Thank you for allowing us in.
Wow! ..effortless coastal chic …This looks like a well curated professionally designed home…Love her personal style and tips for choosing fabrics and wall coverings for easy cleaning in a house full of kids. One of the best homeworthy tours ever. This talented interior designer should have her own show on HGTV
So much I love about this home! I live about 16 miles inland from Bird Rock and that area has special appeal to me. As a transplant from New England, I really appreciate her love of coastal flair blended with traditional elements. It is what I strive to keep in my life and home. Such a nice change, Homeworthy. Thank you!
When I saw “California Beach Cottage” I thought it was gonna be the usual boring white and blue beach thingys. And that’s coming from an L.A. native. I was so wrong! This home was inviting, superbly layered and warm! The homeowner did a wonderful job. ❤
Absolutely beautiful home! I love that you believe a home should be lived in and enjoyed even with five kids. I completely understand why you have so many clients - beautiful style and a warm personality to go with it. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Your gorgeous home is tied (for me) with one other I've seen on Homeworthy. The subdued, yet rich, colours, the wonderful natural materials, the proportions, the naive mixed with high-end oil paintings, unique lamps, beautiful rugs, colours on the walls: all were so special. This is the only other home I've watched and rewatched just to linger over the furnishings and overall decor (which somehow seems un-decor, more like the home just organically grew into itself. Absolutely brilliant!
This home is absolutely stunning. I know I will be back to study every detail. This is one of my favourites of all time Homeworthy. Thank you for letting us into your home Leslie.
This is one of the- if not the- most beautiful homes that I have seen here on homeworthy! And I 've been watching for a long time now 😊 I would move in there as soon as possible if I could😃 This Lady has a style that is amazing: homey and comfy and beautiful. And I too felt the good vibes of the house as soon- as I saw it from the outside in the video. It has a kind of magic and it reminded me instantly of our own house we used to live in long long time ago when times were better. And I can relate to everything she says about home and family. She really is blessed and I wish her and her family all the best and many many happy years to come🍀👍😊 Greetings from good old Germany
I was able to chill a little on President's day and what a treat to view your home tour! Some years back my niece was married on a roof top home in La Jolla, what a beautiful place. Thank you for a lot of design inspo! I am definitely putting reading lamps on either side of my bed (along side my lamps). I never thought to put them in that location but it looks great and it's practical. ~ Cheers!
Unique and impeccable taste….One of the most charming home I’ve seen. It has so much character and personality. I love everything about it, because it so well put together. She did an amazing job! Congratulations 👏👏
This was one of my favorites. I love the casual elegance and yet not fussy and cozy vibe. Leslie Martin seems to be a genuine person with wonderful taste. Thank you so much.
This is a beautiful, cozy, welcoming home. Love all the small details she has added, the mix of furniture, patterns, etc. Definitely a Calfornia home chic, but casual. would love to see more of her work! Thank you Allison for featuring this designer.
I absolutely love everything about your home! The mix is amazing. The mural!! Are the two black and gold mirrors antiques? If not could you share the company who makes them? I can see why your and your sister's design firm is so in demand. Well done.
I enjoy all of the Homeworthy tours and this was no exception. I love that this designer played designer when she was young and realized it is her TALENT. Her home is one of my favorites and also enjoy that many of the homes featured on Homeworthy are small and cozy. Thank you.
This house has such a calming effect. I love the use of natural elements throughout. I am a person who loves color but the neutral palate and use of natural textures and pattern drew me in. So beautiful.
The best design element for a family home is CHILDREN……and the best acoustics is their laughter filling the rooms. The house is gorgeous. The Children make it a complete cozy HOME ❤️😉👍🏻
Leslie your home is warm, beautiful and very comfortable. But I love your ATTITUDE best! Nothing is too precious or off limits. It’s all to be lived in and used and enjoyed! And wear and tear is NORMAL and embraced by you! Happy New Year!
I love your home and your esthetic! Very English, cozy yet casual and livable. Your views are to die for. I’m kind of a minimalist but love your abundance and style so much🥰
Wonderful and inviting electic style...high end and budget. Leslie was very generous in giving so many decorating & lifestyle tips. She had beautiful things but wanted them to be used. Nothing was too precious. I live on Cape Cod so also a beachy community and my house is from the early 1960's so I got a few good ideas to make it more beachy like using more shiplap. And like others I love the curtains at the front door. My front door has glass panels so the curtains could work. I am not at the ocean but I live on a little kettle pond which is also a wonderful sight to see every day w windows in almost every room. No whales and surfers but a variety ducks, herons et al so I am also very fortunate.
This has been my favorite home tour yet. Esquisitely homey is how I would describe this. This designer has made her home into an unforgetable cottage.....
I loved the house and all Leslie’s “stuff” . I also love her attitude regarding home and family. She has a wonderful way of making it all sound so comfortable and yet beautiful to look at. Well done!
I do like this tour and I love that they live in a small-ish home (a little more room than at first glance, though yes, the living and eating areas are smaller) with five children. I am the outlier here in the comments though because while I like the home, commenters are praising her for her "budget-friendly" renovation. I question that. The kitchen? Come on! Kudos to Leslie Martin for being able to afford it, but people are getting caught up in some of these home tours that seem budget-friendly, but they really are aspirational for most of us. Maybe Homeworthy is at the point where so many people are addicted to the tours that we should be told the total home/renovation cost. They ripped out bookcases and added large windows, gutted the kitchen and added marble, stone, built-in wine fridge, etc. ripped out window moldings and frames and changed all of that, painted all the rooms, reupholstered some furniture, and added a custom mural from London. Then yes, she brought in some budget-friendly items. The reason the house itself is small is due to the ungodly cost of living and buying in LaJolla. Please google the area she mentions (Bird Rock) and see that 1,200 square foot homes are over 1.5 and 2 million dollars.) I would assume the cost of items and labor in LaJolla is quite high, as well.
It's a 4 million dollar home. They probably put at least another $750,000 into it I would guess. We are undergoing a remodel soon (kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, etc) and I can tell you it is very expensive. We were hoping to add on some but it was out of reach for us. I live in San Diego and just the kitchen alone is costing us close to $200k and it's not what you would consider a "large" kitchen. We are using a big company but it was worth it because they handle everything.
This was so sweet for me to see! We lived in Bird Rock in the ‘80’s with a view of the bay & the ocean. Would love to know what street your beautiful home is on. We lived on Linda Rosa!
I am a huge fan of Homeworthy and watch videos every morning while having my tea and I can say, this is my favourite edition. I absolutely love her style and she is so beautiful also. Homesworthy has inspired me so much when decorating my home.
Forgive what might seem like a pat word, but I do not write this, or feel this as I write it with pat feelings. This place is *lovely, *context and setting - dynamite. I appreciate Leslie's sensitivites re light quality, and the power of lamps and sconces. Many years of happiness to our hostess and her family within such handsome, embracing walls.

La Jolla is in Southern CA where the vibe is more beachy, relaxed, not so showy and cold as the LA area.

Agree! Would love to have a link to purchase the wall mural for my home.
Yes! I loved the mural too. I live in a split entry home and I'm wondering now if a mural would help the entry feel less boring and more of a feature
I would buy a coffee table book of this home. It's beautiful and interesting. I think there's more colonial than coastal vibes in it. Gorgeous.

What is most special about this fabulous home is how the interiors would be perfect anywhere. Comfortable, yes, but also classically refined and warm. So enjoyed watching, while hearing the rain outside.
I so agree!
I absolutely love this woman attitude and everything she is done in the house.
I love that she remembers and mentions the companies and artisans who make these pieces.
Absolutely stunning home! You have such a gift of combining design with livability. Very inspiring.
Leslie Martin loves everything in her home and it shows.. Absolutely love this house!
EVERYTHING done in this house is magic! This collected, cozy and comfortable home is exactly what many of us long for in our own homes. You are very talented and I love all the stories behind each piece that you have collected. And the icing on the cake is that this is a family home ; kids and a puppy !
Lovely home. It may be 3000 square feet but there are 7 people living in it. She did a great job decorating it.
Love it ❤
A Nantucket interior perched on the perfect California hillside. The best of the best! ❤️
Absolutely stunning! I love her style. The idea of having to sand the kitchen backsplash to remove splatter spots sounds a bit crazy, though!
I LOVE HER STYLE! Her home felt inviting and cozy. Not one boring moment.
I love this home!! It’s comfortable, personal and elegant all at the same time.
This video is a breath of fresh sea air. The cottage's cozy and chic design is both stylish and attainable, and the tour feels like a coastal retreat. It's the perfect inspiration for anyone looking to bring a bit of California beach vibes into their own living space.
Beautiful home. The owner/designer did a wonderful job. One of my favorites, partly because of its location. 😊
This too is my all time favorite homeworthy tour! Both the home and Leslie were real! Thank you for all the decorating tips.
One thing I would love to see, is a homeworthy tour of Leslie’s sisters home!
One of the very, very best home tours I’ve ever seen. Love it top to bottom and how thoughtfully she explained things.
This is now one of my top three most favorite homes featured on this channel. Every single detail is absolutely beautiful!!! 💕💕💕
Utterly charming! Simple, eclectic, comfortable and interesting!
Goodness, what a beautiful home inside and out.
Thank you for showing us your love-filled, stunning FAMILY home, such a treat. xx
What a lovely home and owner. I can't imagine anyone not feeling at home in this charming house! Love it.
I refer back to this video all the time as it is decorated just beautiful
Stunning and eclectic space . This designer understands what life , family and home are ! ❤ her!
Thank you!
She did great with this house. Very well done. The mural and the kitchen are so beautiful.
Beautiful home! And I absolutely love how she opts for budget options for some things and spends more on those she really enjoys having.
Every inch of this home is my exact taste.. so beautifully done... The marriage between the East/West Coast is perfection... Love!
Third time watching this. Love her humor, and I love her home is for kids too. Elegant and inviting at the same time.
This magnificent home is absolutely MAGICAL!!! Every curated piece adds the perfect ambiance!!! It's perfection... VERY well orchestrated ❤
You have preformed a miracle in making this house look like it has years of history, wonderful!
I absolutely love everything about your home! The mix is amazing. The mural!! Are the two black and gold mirrors antiques? If not could you share the company who makes them? I can see why your and your sister's design firm is so in demand. Well done.
My favorite house tour on Homeworthy so far! Beautiful & family friendly 🙌🏼
I love that she said she would live in a shoebox to be close to the ocean, I feel the same way. I love the sea.
Beautiful entryway!!❤
I love how she mentions her family so often. I love homes that are based around family!
Thoroughly enjoyed every moment touring this home and how it all came together! It feels cozy, warm, refreshing, peaceful and inviting. Love it!
I loved the house and all Leslie’s “stuff” . I also love her attitude regarding home and family. She has a wonderful way of making it all sound so comfortable and yet beautiful to look at. Well done!
Gorgeous home. This is very much my style and what I particularly admire is how much thought has gone into this home.
I think this might be the most beautiful home I've ever seen remotely. So beautifully curated. I adore the eclectic vibe. Gorgeous.
