Before I even watched the video, I knew this was going to be a very solid arrangement. I mean, look at that hand blur in the thumbnail. Even camera-san couldn't keep up with your movements. OwO EDIT: Hmmm, I see that you changed the thumbnail.....
As soon as I read "quintessential" my mind immediately jumped to "The Quintessential Quintuplets" But yes, I agree. This is definitely one of the most iconic anime OPs to exist.
The balance between the hands in this arrangement is staggering. When the left hand was voicing melodic material, it was perfectly clear. Amazing work. Edit: after really watching most of his channel, I realize these comments can be made about all of his arrangements. He's just silly good.
Agree!! Most of the arrangers usually focus on right hand's melody; in turn, the left hand become dispensable or monotonous. But animenz's arrangements always strike the delicate balance between two hands:)
This is piano technique, you can hear it in a lot of piano musics along the many years of this planet. It's incredible! I recommend the Chopin etude op 25 no 11, or the op 25 no 12.

I think that with all the experience a professional pianist can get, you end up knowing an incredibly wide variety of chords and arpeggios to play with your left hand, so it might come more naturally for him to fully play that many different pieces. But, he no doubt has amazing skills.

Even after years of piano, there's just the issue of the fingers not doing what they should be (at the required speed, of course) without a lot of practice, or taking a lot of time to read the sheet when it's filled with notes. A lot of mental blocks, essentially. But with someone who is so talented and who is so able, it's possible to learn a piece without putting their hands on the keyboard, just by brainpower alone, and that is staggering.
Hey, just wanted to say an immensely massive "thank you", man. Ever since I started playing the piano, you've inspired me so much. I've been teaching myself piano for the past 4-5 years, and I didn't have the time (and in turn the motivation) to properly learn reading sheets. I've gotten into that since then, but my point is that since I've been playing by ear and learning through synthesia videos and I'm self-taught, I was never taught proper technique, and analysing your positions, fingerings, wrist movement, and so on, you've helped me immensely. Learning the piano is one of the best things, if not the best thing, that's happened to me. Thank you for having always given me a goal, an example, and inspiring me. ❤️

His arrangement is fantastic. But I really don't like the thin sound now. Either the piano got retuned to be harsher or the mic setup changed. I wish he would go back to the old mic setup if it is indeed that (obviously he couldn't do stuff about the tuning).
@@dabinx226 that has got nothing to do with it. Compare the sound of the Demon Slayer video and this video. He changed his microphone or his piano got retuned. And I really don't like the new sound (piercing, harsh, not rich).
As a classical conservatory student (studying voice) it makes me so happy when you talk about your classical inspirations to your arrangements. I, too, love D Major. I actually just did a quick choral arrangement out of sheer boredom and I tell you there’s just something magical about modulating between D and G and C. I think I found a perfect analogy for your progress Animenz. You remind me of Kratos where he is angry and goes all out in his youth but he gets older and wiser so he pulls he punches and is more rational. But in all actuality, he is a lot stronger than his younger self. In your case, your old covers featured a lot of really complex polyrythm and extremely speedy sections that have me questioning if it's sped up (I know it's not). This took all your effort and focus to play and looked impressive. In your newer covers however, you focused more on the musicality over the excessive speed (Although you still go fast especially in covers like Vogel Im Kafig and Ashes on Fire). The similarity here is that despite toning down the covers, they end up being better and I can tell that you are a lot better now than you were in the past.

Not gonna lie, i've always known this song as the Naruto Mirror Challenge Song... Arrangement thoughts: Love the parallel and countermelodies going throughout this one. 1:05, 2:02, as called out in the video description, but also the nice RH pattern at 1:19, and the "sparkling" RH triplet countermelody at 3:07, my favorite one in this whole arrangement (same rhythm briefly teased again at 3:48) The LH pattern first heard at 0:49 and later on a few times (2:28) stood out to me in particular, because it's one that i haven't really heard you use before. On the note of improvisation, my favorite key to improvise in is usually a tie between C major and Eb major. As someone with only a strong sense of relative pitch, i like to recreate and root any neat or funky sounding chord progressions/ harmonics unfamiliar to me and which i discover from listening to new music relative to C major, and then continue playing with it in C or transpose it to my key of choice to play with that musical idea. Thank you as always for sharing, and keep on spreading the joy of anime piano arrangements! :)

I think I found a perfect analogy for your progress Animenz. You remind me of Kratos where he is angry and goes all out in his youth but he gets older and wiser so he pulls he punches and is more rational. But in all actuality, he is a lot stronger than his younger self.
In your case, your old covers featured a lot of really complex polyrythm and extremely speedy sections that have me questioning if it's sped up (I know it's not). This took all your effort and focus to play and looked impressive. In your newer covers however, you focused more on the musicality over the excessive speed (Although you still go fast especially in covers like Vogel Im Kafig and Ashes on Fire). The similarity here is that despite toning down the covers, they end up being better and I can tell that you are a lot better now than you were in the past.

Arrangement thoughts:
Love the parallel and countermelodies going throughout this one. 1:05, 2:02, as called out in the video description, but also the nice RH pattern at 1:19, and the "sparkling" RH triplet countermelody at 3:07, my favorite one in this whole arrangement (same rhythm briefly teased again at 3:48)
The LH pattern first heard at 0:49 and later on a few times (2:28) stood out to me in particular, because it's one that i haven't really heard you use before.
On the note of improvisation, my favorite key to improvise in is usually a tie between C major and Eb major. As someone with only a strong sense of relative pitch, i like to recreate and root any neat or funky sounding chord progressions/ harmonics unfamiliar to me and which i discover from listening to new music relative to C major, and then continue playing with it in C or transpose it to my key of choice to play with that musical idea.
