Want "The message" from the song? Axl Rose got off the bus from the Midwest in the 80s in the city (The Jungle!) Crack cocaine, heroin, gangs, police brutality! Telling you from a man who grew up in the city, in the 80s! Want to get involved and play in the Jungle in the 80s??? It won't be for free, watch it make you bleed, feel my Serpentine, watch it bring you to your Sha na na na na na na na Knees!
Started with Axl getting off the bus from the midwest...the jungle is the city...and the same guy, at the end, now with big hair, stops to look at the same tv as he did when he first arrived. The effects of "the jungle"
I always felt that GnR was a product of the 80's. A decade of complete chaos devoid of constant surveillance and left alone with our own depravity to do whatever we wanted to do. Even through that mess, we came out alive and survived.
Slash (lead guitar... real name Saul Hudson) of Guns N' Roses is a stellar guitarist; he did actually work w/ Michael Jackson (not 'Dirty Diana'... that was Steve Stevens of Billy Idol's band) Slash played the guitar intro to 'Black or white'... and the guitar on the single 'Give in to me'... from MJ's 'Dangerous' album in 1991... Slash has also performed w/ MJ. 'Welcome to the jungle' was written about Los Angeles in the 80's... GNR singer Axl Rose left Indiana to join a rock band on the West Coast and came to L.A. and it was a shock for this country boy to see the big city w/ hustlers, pimps, dealers and hookers all over the streets.
@@JaquelineGoodspeed Steve Stevens (guitar) did the solo for 'Dirty Diana' on the record. Slash played the intro to 'Black or white'... and 'Give in to me'... He performed w/ M.J. multiple times. Do the research.
The jungle is l Los Angeles and what it does to young bright eyed kids coming there searching for their dreams. The band was on heroin Axel Gap the idea from this song from his first week in Los Angeles. He was sleeping on a couch and an alley. If I remember correctly and some guy yelled out. Welcome to the jungle. At him
Yes, the guitarist is Slash who often collaborated with Michael Jackson. Such amazing artistry. Axl Rose is a genius too, what an electrifying performance.
FYI - Slash is a British/American! He was born July 23, 1965 in Stone-on-Trent, United Kingdom. 🇬🇧 Axl Rose was visiting a friend near Seattle. While there, he started writing lyrics that told a story of the life in the Hollywood streets .. describes the life in Hollywood as a fight for survival. 💪 🦍🐅🦏🐆🐘 “You’re in the jungle, baby” .. So good!
The story behind this song is well known. When Axl arrived in LA he disembarked from the bus in a volatile neighborhood. A black man looked at him and said, "You know wheere you are? You're in the jungle, Baby. You're gonna die!" And a classic was born...
This video and GNR almost never made it. M TV refused to play this video. However one producer gave it one shot and played it once at like 2 in the morning. The video became the most requested video on M TV. Everyone loved it. Another fun bit of history, when the US invaded Panama, the US soldiers took over the national radio station and put this song on replay and just let it go.. lol
Lyrics: Welcome to the jungle We got fun and games We got everything you want Honey, we know the names We are the people that can find Whatever you may need If you got the money, honey We got your disease In the jungle, welcome to the jungle Watch it bring you to your knees, knees Ooh-ah, I wanna watch you bleed Welcome to the jungle We take it day by day If you want it, you're gonna bleed But that's the price you pay You're a very sexy girl Who's very hard to please You can taste the bright lights But you won't get them for free In the jungle, welcome to the jungle Feel my, my, my, my serpentine I, I wanna hear you scream Welcome to the jungle It's worse here everyday You learn to live like an animal In the jungle where we play You got a hunger for what you see You'll take it eventually You can have anything you want But you better not take it from me In the jungle, welcome to the jungle Watch it bring you to your knees, knees Ooh-ah, I'm gonna watch you bleed And when you're high, you never Ever want to come down So down, so down, so down, yeah Aw You know where you are? AB I needed this reaction!!! Thank u cause u had me dying at ur shocked face and comments...Being a teenager in the 80s was awesome and so was our music!!!
This is a reaction I needed today! When someone realizes the lyrics to this song it does give them a shock. Parts of it get used all the time. I head this comment a while back. If someone got into a time machine and traveled to every decade of the 20th century, the 80s would be the most shocking to them. Still would love to see Sympathy for the Devil or We Didn't Start the Fire.
Oh yes the 80's were glorious. But the music is definitely a culture shock to those who don't know it. I will never forget the look on my cousins face when she heard Dude Looks Like A Lady coming from my computer speakers. 😹
Axl looks very different in every other video... this video was filmed when he was still in his crazy teased hair phase, but that went away before the band really broke out with their 2nd single "Sweet Child O' Mine". Jungle was released 3 times as a single before it finally charted, after the success of Sweet Child.
I was a teen in the 80s. Absolute decadence and wild wild club life. Concerts were amazing. The music was crazy, and we did things we never should have done. Thankfully there were no cell phone cameras or surveillance back then. LOL
lead singer Axl Rose was visiting a friend near Seattle. While he was there, he started writing lyrics that told a story of the life in the Hollywood streets. He describes the life in Hollywood as a fight for survival with such lines as 'Ya learn to live like an animal/In the jungle where we play.
I was always intrigued by Slash and his guitar playing. I was also amazed he never caught his hair on fire with his cigarettes and all the hair product they used. 5:19 Axl says he was inspired getting off a bus in New York some homeless guy trying to scare runaways said to them "You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby; you're gonna die!” Guitarist Izzy Stradlin said it was about Hollywood streets true to life. Slash came up with a riff for this song and they made the song from it. Axl Rose used to live in Slash’s mom’s basement.
Slash, the top hat is probly my fav gatarist and didnt alot of projects wirh other so yes i think micheal jacksin was 1. He also fromed another band with the bass, and drummer of gnr, called velvet reveler.. Take a listen to slither
GnR was Axle Rose on vocals, Slash on lead guitar, Izzy Sradler on rhythm guitar, Duff McKagen on bass guitar and Steven Adler on drums. I saw them when they were the opening band for Aerosmith. It was one of the best shows I've been to. Appetite For Destruction is still an incredible album.
"The disease" was more referring to drugs, vices, etc. And the guitar player is slash, one of the most legendary of all time. Also in the 80's. Large cities were often referred to as "the concrete jungle" indicating a certain survival of the fittest mentality. So basically this is the story of a country boy coming into the big city and it's like "welcome to the jungle, a vice of sex, drugs, broken dreams, and rock&roll".
OMG. Your reaction is the absolute best. I can’t stop laughing. This was my band, I was about 11 when I got the album and couldn’t understand why my Dad didn’t want me to listen to it. Now I have kids and I understand.
The guitarist's name is Slash and yes he was in that MJ video. 😃 Axel was unhinged. He has sex with the drummer's girlfriend in the recording booth and it's on the song "Rocket Queen".
The story behind the song is that when Axel Rose, the front man and lead vocalist, got off the bus from Indiana to Hollywood that he was told by an older black man, 'Welcome to the Jungle, your gonna die" so the Jungle can refer to a city like LA or NYC
This is a perfect time to leave you with this, "Tune & Info" yes. The drummer is "Steven Adler" he unfortunately got super heavy in the dope scene. The members of "Skid Row" were very close friends with GNR members. Especially with "Adler". It was so devasting for them all. Skid Row wrote the tune about "Adler" - "Wasted Time" The vocals alone are supernatural in ranges. Peace
Wikipedia-Axl Rose wrote the lyrics while visiting a friend in Seattle: "It's a big city, but at the same time, it's still a small city compared to L.A. and the things that you're gonna learn. It seemed a lot more rural up there. I just wrote how it looked to me. If someone comes to town and they want to find something, they can find whatever they want." Guitarist Izzy Stradlin summarizes the song as "about Hollywood streets; true to life
Lead guitarist (top hat and hair) is slash a legendary guitarist. He has his own band with myles kennedy lead singing. Myles is my fav lead singer currently.
The "guy in the top hat" has his own band... Slash with Miles Kennedy and the conspirators. Their version of Sweet child of mine blues the original out of the water in my opinion. You should check them out. All of their music is fire!!
This song was blasting as I was in a trans am with a drunk guy I just met that decided to run a red light we were stopped at and he slammed into a cop car, t bone, trying to get on the highway...there was a cop car behind that cop car and a cop car behind us when the dummy did that...I found myself dangling over a Dallas overpass being rescued and the song just kept playing.... #funtimes #genx #survived #buddidyoudie lmao the cops were ok, everybody lived, never saw that jerk again...
Slash was my first crush, before I was even old enough to have crushes! And before I ever saw his face 😂😂 he’s still one of the most badass guitar players ever!!
The jungle as I interpret it in the song is everything that a mid-western boy, young, and naive encountered in the big city and the rock scene and how it transformed his mindset, his look, his attitude and sucked the life out of him and he lost everything about who he is and did not know who he is anymore... it killed who he was, brought him down, and he got lost in the mess of everything all around him. He gets off the bus in the city and looks like a young hick... as the video goes that hick is transforming as he sees everything on tv and all around him, and by the end he is transformed.
I was in high school when this album came out and here we are like 35 years later and I can still remember exactly where I was when I heard this song for the first time. This band could have been one of the greatest rock bands of all time but Axl Rose, the lead singer, was such a prick he drove away every one of these guys. Appetite is such an amazing album from beginning to end. After that there were a couple of albums that only managed a few songs that were any good. Its sad to think about what could have been.
When Guns N' Roses formed in the 80's after the breakup of a local band Hollywood Rose, vocalist W. Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin joined another local band L.A. Guns... they opted to change the name to Guns N' Roses (singer Axl Rose and guitarist Tracii Guns)... but in 1986, Axl Rose fired Tracii Guns and hired Slash (lead guitar) whom he had played w/ in Hollywood Rose... Duff McKagan (bass) and Steven Adler (drums) rounded out the band. In 1986, Guns N' Roses was a popular band in L.A. and Hollywood, but they were trouble... always getting into fights... always doing drugs and booze... always getting arrested... No one wanted to work w/ them. Finally, an A&R rep from Geffen Records signed the band and got them into the studio in '86 to record their debut album 'Appetite for destruction'... When the music industry heard it, they shook their heads in disbelief and thought the band would break up before the album came out! After securing a manager and some organization, Guns N' Roses released 'Appetite for destruction' in the Fall of 1987 and shot this music video for 'Welcome to the jungle'... When MTV debuted the video in late '87, the demand for the single was so high that it blew out MTV's request lines... By 1988, the album went to #1 on the US charts and would sell over 18 million copies in the US alone and made Guns N' Roses superstars by 1989 as the band toured the world. However, Guns N' Roses members were heavy drug users and drinkers... and when they made million$ after their success, they didn't know what to do but do more drugs and more booze... They were able to settle a bit by 1990 to work on new music, but drummer Steven Adler was so far gone on drugs that he couldn't play drums in the studio... Adler was fired and Matt Sorum (drums) joined and played drums on what became a 2 CD release in 1991 - 'Use your illusion' Vo. I and II... which charted at #1 and #2. By that point, singer Axl Rose had seized control of GNR and a weary Izzy Stradlin (guitar) quit the band in late 1991 as they were on a massive world tour... Gilby Clarke (guitar) joined and was featured in their music videos, but GNR was falling apart from partying, drugs and alcohol in 1992/ '93... The tour ended in 1993, but GNR never got to making a new album as lead guitarist Slash was fired in 1996 and the band members all left by 1997... which was the end of the classic Guns N' Roses. In 2016, Slash and Duff McKagan finally reconciled w/ singer Axl Rose and returned to touring w/ Guns N' Roses (guitarist Izzy Stradlin and drummer Steven Adler were not invited to rejoin)... Slash has also been busy touring as a solo artist w/ singer Myles Kennedy (vocalist of Alter Bridge) and the Conspirators.

That guitarist that can't hardly see his face.... that is SLASH. He is a living legend. Highly respected musician.
I remember watching this video for the first time in 1988 screaming “Ma! I want a guitar for Christmas!!”

It happened in NYC but refers to LA.
Guitar players name is Slash. He did the guitar with Michael Jackson song "Give Into Me".
Also Black and White. And Beat it live version.

GnR was the beggining of the end for really decent music in the 80's. Great band, but Axel sucked as a "singer."

Lyrics:
Welcome to the jungle
We got fun and games
We got everything you want
Honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find
Whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey
We got your disease
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knees, knees
Ooh-ah, I wanna watch you bleed
Welcome to the jungle
We take it day by day
If you want it, you're gonna bleed
But that's the price you pay
You're a very sexy girl
Who's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights
But you won't get them for free
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my, my serpentine
I, I wanna hear you scream
Welcome to the jungle
It's worse here everyday
You learn to live like an animal
In the jungle where we play
You got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knees, knees
Ooh-ah, I'm gonna watch you bleed
And when you're high, you never
Ever want to come down
So down, so down, so down, yeah
Aw
You know where you are?
You're in the jungle, baby
You're gonna die
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knees, knees
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my, my serpentine
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knees, knees
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring to your...
It's gonna bring you down, huh

This song was blasting as I was in a trans am with a drunk guy I just met that decided to run a red light we were stopped at and he slammed into a cop car, t bone, trying to get on the highway...there was a cop car behind that cop car and a cop car behind us when the dummy did that...I found myself dangling over a Dallas overpass being rescued and the song just kept playing.... #funtimes #genx #survived #buddidyoudie lmao the cops were ok, everybody lived, never saw that jerk again...
Yesss, that is Slash’s (guitarist) signature look and the jungle is the the city of sex and drugs
Slash was my first crush, before I was even old enough to have crushes! And before I ever saw his face 😂😂 he’s still one of the most badass guitar players ever!!
Guitar player is Slash. He did play on stage with Michael Jackson before.
"Welcome to the jungle" The theme song for each person when they graduate from high school/college.
Can you imagine how hard it is to sing this ?
That guitarist is Slash and he has played for MJ
