I know I will be crucified for this, but this is Raqqa, a city which was under illegal occupation by ISIS for 4 years , in as much as we would like to believe that the people of Raqqa didn't like isis we can't ignore the fact that Isis ruled this city for years and I don't think that would have happened if they didn't have a not so insignificant amount of people who supported them . There's literal translation and there's contextual translation. Salam alaikum is used as greeting, so in context it can be translated as another greeting like hello. If you perform a literal translation and use 'peace be upon you' western audiences will be left perplexed because there's no context for it.

Thank you for this report it’s SO difficult getting any information on Syria after non-stop coverage during the war. I was involved in the settling family of 5 to Canada. I can’t help wondering will this situation ever be resolved. I think of Germany, 25 years after the war the country was rebuilt. I do not see this happening in Syria. Yes, the Marshall plan poured millions into Europe but now this is the responsibility of the Muslim wealthy nations like Saudi Arabia to rebuild their fellow nations. However, as long as they export extreme politics and religion, along with their support, there will be no hope.
