I added audio books to my daily routine after one of your videos early this year (or maybe last year? Time is fuzzy in retirement) and at least tripled my reading as a result. Doing yard work and cleaning house are so much less awful when I'm listening to a book.
That makes me happy! Discovering audiobooks on my phone completely changed my reading. I used to do audiobooks by CD and only in the car, and it was much less efficient.
@@theanswerisbooks books on CD killed audio for me. I'm an older Gen-X, so I had gone for YEARS listening to books on tape during longer car trips. So easy to pause when you needed to stop for gas or food or to pee. CD's didn't work that way, so I gave it up. Fast forward a decade plus (two decades?), and you got me to try digital, which is a total gam-changer. THANK YOU!!
Our best and worst are too in sync. Nothing has come close to The Warm Hands of Ghosts. It was impeccable. And I also read The Fake Mate and went - this may be one of the blandest, but also actively bad books I’ve ever completed. I never have counted my DNFs before in my “read” pile. Lots of times because I plan to come back, but even the ones I don’t plan to return to - I just pretend they don’t exist. But I also don’t count rereads either. So I’m always shooting for 52 new books a year. So far I’m at 40 books, but I’ll be wrapping up Starsight, The Paradise Problem, and Her Majesty’s Royal Coven this week! (I too always have a physical, audio, and kindle book going at the same time).

I had my heart is a chainsaw but when I was cleaning out my bookshelf I ended up donating it but now hearing the good reviews I'm like why did I do that lol
It's on my TBR, but I have yet to read any light novel! I actually have one of the sillier ones out from the library right now: The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish! Ha.
I`m from Ukraine and from the time of the full-scale invasion I stopped believing in any enemies-to-lovers tropes in books especially when any war is involved. I think that those books about love between soldiers from 2 opposite sides can`t be written by people who have experienced any war or its consequences (soldiers, their family members, refugees, or any citizen of the country that was attacked and/or conquered). Only 3rd or 4th generation who haven`t heard testimonies of their grandpas/grandmas about the death of their friends, loved ones and all the pain and losses created by the aggressor can imagine a situation of such a relationship. I wonder would Katherine Arden wrote this book if she had been born in France or Germany, not in Texas? I`m here not to shame you or do a "what about me" trick, or anything like that, it just fascinates me how my personal perception gradually but radically changed starting from 2014 up till now regarding war enemies-to-lovers trope every time someone talks/writes about it.
That's a really interesting perspective, thanks for sharing. I've never really liked enemies to lovers the soldier version in books, but it works in this book because of the context of trench warfare/the historical causes/consequences of WWI, who the characters are, and Arden's talent. If she had set this book in WWII instead, for instance, it absolutely would not have worked. But regardless, there are just some things we as readers don't need to subject ourselves to because they're so personal to us, and that sounds like the case here for you!
