to set up the internet to your hp you will need to go to set up menu, then network, wi-fi protected set up, wps push push button and press the wps button from your modem as well and it will conecct by itself, ready to wireless print, I print from my android phone...good luck
Thanks for the tip Karina! Yes, this is by far the easiest method to connect. However, those of you with older routers will have to do it manually. That is, know and select your SSID (the name of your router) and manually enter the password.
oh man..u don't know how thankful i am u made this vid. I'm such a dumb dumb when it comes to settin up printers..i've bought then and don't use them again if i get troubles cause i really don't feel comfortable.even the ink.i was afraid to snap opp the orange tabs because i didn't know if i'm suppose to turn them or break em right off. u going through a visual for me really helped and made me more comfortable with my printer. now i hope i get it finished so i can get that 5$ coupon needed today
We are glad that you found the video helpful. Good luck with your new printer! BTW, in order to save ink, go into the printer folder, right click on the printer and select "printer preferences." Next, click the "Advanced" button and set the grayscale setting to "black ink only." Now you will print in B/W all the time unless you select "Normal" in the print driver. Black ink is the cheapest.
It looks like it comes out pretty easy in the video so I can understand you not wanting to force it. Wiggle it first then try pulling it out to the left. Good luck!
It is one of the least expensive AiOs on the market today and has a reasonable cost of ink per page. Go for it. Tip: set you printing defaults to grayscale/draft/black ink only in printer properties (right click the icon in printer folder[XP]/devices and printers [Win 7]. This mode is perfectly readable. When you need to print in high-quality or color, select "properties" from the print dialog and specify "normal" or "best." This will save you ink and money.
You have to do this from the solutions center. For Windows, click Start/Programs/HP/HP Officejet 6700. Or you can go into the printer/devices and printers folder and double click on the icon. This opens the solutions center. Click the scanner icon and you'll find the enable scan to computer setting.
WPS is not required it simply makes it easier for users to connect to WiFi because they don't have to enter credentials in order to do so. That said, you can manually set up the OJ 4620 WiFi from the Wireless Setup Menu. During the process you'll need to enter the router SSID and any necessary passwords. The Cisco router we use in testing does not have WPS and we have successfully connected dozens of printers without it.
Are they new cartridges? Inkjet printers of the day are designed to give you problems if you attempt to use refilled cartridges or cartridges that were used in another printer. Some printers have a setting that allows you to use cartridges that were used in another printer but refilled cartridges need to have the IC chip replaced or reset. If they are new cartridges, make sure that the print head and cartridges are set properly. If it still doesn't work, there's a problem with the printer.
Yes, the 4620 is a full-function analog fax. You can also fax digital documents from your PC and receive faxes to your PC and view them instead of printing them out.
Make sure that the power is connected and the carrier should automatically move to the center of the unit. If that does not work, see if there's paper stuck under the carrier or in the cassette port. If that does not work, peek in there with a flashlight and make sure one of the cartridges hasn't popped out. If so, try to push it down with a Popsicle stick or something similar. If nothing works, most likely you've got a broken printer.
Fred, You can set the IP address manually in the Embedded Web Server/Network Tab by entering the existing IP address in the address bar of your Web browser. Alternately, you can access network settings from the Setup Menu on the control panel and specify a static IP there. Hope this helps!
Go with the 6700. 1) It's a newer model. 2) It has higher capacity ink cartridges. 3) It has a Cost Per page that is considerably lower. 4) It has a bigger touch screen. 5) It has downloadable apps.
The OJ 4620 does not have Wireless Direct printing so you'll have to connect via a wireless network. You can always use HP ePrint from your tablet if your OJ is connected to the Internet. Finally, if its an iPad, have your tried AirPrint?
Is the printer installed on a wireless network? If so, you need to press "Setup" button on the control panel. Select "Network." Select "Wireless." Select "Wireless Setup." The printer can look for your wireless router or you can manually enter the router's SSID (name) and password. Finally, you need to go to your PC and run the HP Update IP Address utility. You can find your IP address in the "Network" menu once the router connects. Let us know how it works out.
You can do it during the software installation. If software is already installed, press the "Setup" button on the control panel. Select "Network." Select "Wireless." Select "Wireless Setup." The printer can look for your router or you can manually enter the router's SSID (name) and password. Finally, you need to go to your PC and run the HP Update IP Address utility. You can find your IP address in the "Network" menu once the router connects.
Do you mean in the video or in actual use? During setup, there's head aligning going on before the first print is delivered. In actual use, the GDI print driver provided by nearly every vendor depends on the I/O speed and the processing power of the host computer. Yes, the first page out is slow in actual use but that is the case with virtually every other low-cost printer. Higher-priced printers with actual PCL and PostScript print drivers provide faster first page out times.
No. Since the OJ 4260 has analog fax, you need supply a phone wire. Supposedly, Internet/fax solutions like MagicJack work because there is a physical phone line involved--the magic is in the jack that converts digital Internet data into analog data that works with common phones and faxes.
I'll give this a shot. I think the main problem is getting past the WPA. There isn't a manual connect. I haven't found a way to enter the WPA SSID and/or password yet. Thanks for the reply.
No big deal. You just have to find the CD-ROM and install in on your laptop. If your new lappie doesn't have an optical drive, you can download and install the drivers from HP support--just follow the prompts. If you don't think that you'll need all of the fluffery, download the basic scan and print drivers to save space and PC resources. If you find that you want more, you can update the installation with new features after downloading and running the full software installation.
Hi, I want a good all in one printer as I currently have a HP 1050 printer which works but is very basic, the cartridges however aren't practical as they last a very short time and cost nearly as much as the printer did, so I think it's time for an upgrade to an all in one printer, obviously for the increased practicality and functions. I'm stuck choosing between this and the HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer, they're a similar price, which one do you recommend/ think is better?
First, look at the control panel and go into the setup menu. You should see an option for network settings. Muck around in the settings until you find the current IP address (e.g.: 192.168.0.XX). Next click start/all programs/HP/HP Officejet 4620 Series/Update IP Address. Enter the new IP address in the dialog. It should then find the printer and everything should be OK.
thanks for the video it really helped me set up my printer I started the video thinking about getting it by the time it ended I had my new printer setup and printing lol (I paused it and ran out to the store to buy one!) very helpful video!
1. You can connect with a USB cable. 2. If you have a wireless network, you can print with no cable. 3. You can use ePrint (print via e-mail). 4. If it is an Apple lappy, you can use AirPrint.
I want to use it for my iPad. But it requires WPS. Our router is from AT&T (2WIRE) and it doesn't have WPS. Will I just return it and buy a new printer? Any suggestion on what wireless printer that doesn't require WPS? :)
Hi my mother purchased this printer earlier today and when I got home from school i set it up. Everything was fine then i brought it in my room to print some things out. When i turned it on it said there is a problem with the printer or the ink system turn printer of and on. I been doing that but it still says the same thing when i turn it back on. Do your know whats going on?
What purpose would "learning to set it up before posting this" serve? We have been testing office imaging products forever and if we're stumbling, what would the average user do?
So if we want to print with a laptop and the wi-fi won't work with my home computer, I can simply hook the laptop and printer with a USB and then print through the laptop?
Thanks but how can I update the installation with full new features and how can I connect my printer over wifi it tells me to put a pin on my wireless router but I don't know what the router is even more how to use it is there any way to restart my printer from the beginning even if I don't have the disk it came with ?
Sorry, we no longer have this printer. Walk-up faxing is easy. You put your originals in the feeder, select fax, enter the fax number and press start. You can also fax files from your PC by using the fax print driver. However, you can do neither if your OJ is not hooked up to a phone line.
hi, i have the officejet 4620 all in one series and im unable to send a fax and i keep getting a Error Code 344. What can i do to solve this issue?? I already slowed down the fax speed to low, and i turned off Error Code Correction off and still nothing has changed.
iv'e printed from this before, but my mom just got a new modem and router in one. When i try and print from my laptop, it says "searching for printer" and then says"printer offline." please help
how do you scan pictures to your computer?. it says open hp utility under scan settings, click scan to computer, and ensure that enable scan to computer.? but i cant find it?
I love the internet. I've had this media tray and could never figure out how to install it. I couldn't find the instructions so this video was very helpful. I'll be back to learn how to print envelopes and fax more than one page at a time. My printer must be at least 5 or 6, maybe more. One thing though is I will get a notice that I don't have authorized cartridges. That's not true as I only use HP cartridges. Thanks for this video.
We are glad that you found the video useful. As for the cartridge messages, are you using refilled ink cartridges? If so, you will get this message. Whatever, as long as you can print. Thanks for watching!
Search for "officejet 4620 prints gibberish" and check out the link "Continuous Pages of Strange or Garbled Characters Print in Windows." This is a lengthy HP customer support document that has a number of possible solutions. Good luck!
i just want to print something from my macbook pro wirelessly. The wireless light is blinking and on my mac it shows up but it says it's not connected. help
sharroac28 You can: 1) use the Update IP Address utility to fix the connection whenever it is lost; 2) use the Update IP Address Utility, set a static IP address from the OJ 4620 control panel or from the Printer Home Page (EWS) in Printer Assistant, and then use the Update IP Address utility again; or 3) hook up a network cable from the printer to the WiFi router, then use the Update IP Address utility--this will be the most reliable option.
Never mind i called sprint and they do not offer fax services on their landlines thats why i couldn't send the fax. Thank you anyways, your video was very helpful
tengo una impresora HP Officejet 4620 no quería imprimir negro logre que imprima negro cargue el cartucho pero sigue diciendo que no tiene tinta negra pero si imprime como lo soluciono
@withconsulting please help...I need to connect my printer with my wireless router I don't know how to do that and I have a project due soon please help any advice ?
Howdy. I've got a Samsung 303C12 Chromebook tablet that I want to use with this HP OfficeJet 4630e, but I only want to use them together via usb connection- not wireless. To be able to print documents FROM usb stick and email attachment, and to upload scanned document from HP OfficeJet 4630e into email, as attachment. Can I get some help on how to do this, or a reference, if these two machines are compatible? Any reasonable input is welcome. Thanks.
Chrome is horrible for printing and scanning because you cannot directly connect to a printer or a local network. For printing, you are stuck with either Google Cloud Print (the OJ is Cloud Print ready) or HP ePrint and the printer must be connected to the Internet via your local network. For scanning, you are going to have to be content with scanning from the OJ and either e-mailing the file to your Chromebook from another PC or transferring it via USB flash-memory device.
The 4630 has been discontinued. If you live in a country that has HP Instant Ink program, you should buy one that is instant ink eligble. If not, make sure that whatever one you buy has individual colr ink cartridges instead of a tri-color cartridge.
Know your WiFi SSID and password beforehand. If you have a WPS connect button on your new router, you do not need to know either of them. Go into the settings/network from the control panel of your printer. If you have WPS, select that option and follow the prompts. If you do not have WPS, start the wireless network wizard and fill in the SSID and password and once you are successful the WiFi indicator will light up. Then, you need to go into the HP Print Assistant software on your PC, click the "Utilities" button on the top and then click "Update IP Address." Good luck with this,
The carrage inside the printer which is on the right side, when I open my printer, Its stuck so I need help :) If someone knows the issue then thank you but please respond :)
Bobby Caldwell You put your original on the platen or in the document feeder. Select scan from the control panel and then a destination (USB, PC). Check your file settings and press the black or color scan key. Alternately, you can load you original and pull scans to your PC using either Remote Scan in the Embedded Web Server, the or the HP Scan Utility from the HP Control Center.
Thanks Terry.I should have been more specific. After i press the scan button, the window reads: "Computer not found, make sure software is installed and configured". I did the install...maybe i am not doing something right. Thank you for you time.
Bobby Caldwell Click on the HP printer icon in the programs menu or in devices and printers. This opens up the solutions center. Under scan settings, there's an option to enable scan-to-PC. Once this is enabled and established, whenever you scan-to-PC you select your PC name from a list that pops up on the printer display panel.
Ponder the mystery that is the wireless settings panel in this printer. Now I remember why I like Apple so much. Too bad they got out of the printer business.
Look inside of the main tray and you'll find a diagram that shows how to load envelopes. Once you have done this, go into your software application, click print/properties and instruct the software to print on COM10 envelopes. Of course you must have your document formatted accordingly. If you use MS Word, the Mailings menu helps quite a bit with this chore.
The easiest way is to plug in a USB drive and select scan to USB from the control panel. There a options for color, resolution, file type etc. If you have the software installed, the next easiest thing is to select (push) scan to PC. Select scan-to-PC on the control panel and select your PC name from the list Iit must be running). You will have the same scan options as scan-to-USB. You can also open up HP printer assistant software from your PC and use the scan options. Finally, you can use the scan-to-pc feature built into the Embedded Web Server from HP printer assistant or a Web browser on another networked PC (enter printer IP address into web address box) that does not have the software installed. However, this feature must be setup in the EWS ahead of time in the EWS adminstrator settings.
Albert, if you are using HP Scan, you must specify automatic feed in the software. If you are scanning from the control panel, originals should feed automatically as long as they are loaded correctly.
You need to be a bit more specific but the thing on the very top is the automatic document feeder. You can put a stack of originals in it and scan/copy them automatically without having to manually place them on the platen glass one-by-one.
I set up this machine for wireless production. However, I lost my connection to the Internet and now the printer won't connect to my computer. It won't permit me to enter my password. Please help me to set this printer up.
I'm having trouble trying to connect my officejet to my home phone and modem (through TWC) I have one line with no distinctive ring and not using an answering machine. When I troubleshoot it tells me to use the phone cord that was provided with your HP device (and I am) or you can use the 2-wire phone cord adaptor with your existing phone cord. I did and still no go HELP PLEASE!
Distinctive ring does not work with IP phones. The only thing I have heard that may work is the MagicJack IP phone service. I have my Officejet hooked up to the modem with auto-answer turned off. It works great for sending but not so great for receiving.
Octavia Clay You are welcome! One other thing Octavia. We have tested several Officejets where you HAVE to use the fax phone wire that comes in the box. Apparently, they are wired differently than a plain 'ol phone wire that you may have laying around. I am not sure if it applies to the 4620 because I need more memory.
You need to set the printer up when it is connected to a PC and keep it there. If you are not on a network, put your documents on a thumb drive and print them from your mom's PC. Ideally you should both be on a network rather than moving the printer around. Even so, you need to install the software CD when the printer is connected to your PC. Otherwise, it may be one of three things: 1) bad ink cartridge; 2) improperly installed ink catridge; or 3) defective printer. We wish you luck.

man, i clicked cancel while mine was printing that alignment thingy.. i thought it was some lame thingy..... and was like "aww no, waste of ink.." my bad..
Hey, shxt happens. Anyway, you can re-run the alignment process by going to HP on the start menu and clicking on "HP Officejet 4620 Series." The Printer Assistant utility will open up. Click on "Maintain Your Printer" and you will find the head alignment utility. It doesn't use that much ink and your prints will look better.

Thanks for watching. As far as fax goes, I heard that the MagicJack service works because it supplies you with an analog phone jack.
Aside from a wireless bluetooth connection to the computer, is there any other set up required for faxing documents with this printer?
Yes, plug the included fax cable into a phone jack and run the fax wizard from HP Printer Assistant.
Wps is a push button on hotspot device

Thanks 4 the scoop, Terry....
Thank you you helped alot
i m needing a new printer and i like HP, i m thinking in buying this one
can u tell me which one is better 4630 or 4620?
The 4630 has been discontinued. If you live in a country that has HP Instant Ink program, you should buy one that is instant ink eligble. If not, make sure that whatever one you buy has individual colr ink cartridges instead of a tri-color cartridge.
thnku i think 4630 is latest it has colour screen.
I moved and Frontier gave me a new WPA router. How do I connect my Officejet 4620 to the WPA router?
Know your WiFi SSID and password beforehand. If you have a WPS connect button on your new router, you do not need to know either of them. Go into the settings/network from the control panel of your printer. If you have WPS, select that option and follow the prompts. If you do not have WPS, start the wireless network wizard and fill in the SSID and password and once you are successful the WiFi indicator will light up. Then, you need to go into the HP Print Assistant software on your PC, click the "Utilities" button on the top and then click "Update IP Address." Good luck with this,
Duh. Thanks. I changed the title but can't change the intro because all of the movie maker files have been deleted.
The carrage inside the printer which is on the right side, when I open my printer, Its stuck so I need help :)
If someone knows the issue then thank you but please respond :)
stuck in setup cartrigers and says dont use message ??
May I ask how do you print a picture from your phone ?
The easiest way is to download and install one of the HP print & scan apps from the Google Play or Apple app stores.
How do you scan?????
Does anyone know if this printer is ethernet capable?
Thanks , (: but I already did it by calling the company and they did everything for me (:
How do I set up to pring #10 Envelopes
Look inside of the main tray and you'll find a diagram that shows how to load envelopes. Once you have done this, go into your software application, click print/properties and instruct the software to print on COM10 envelopes. Of course you must have your document formatted accordingly. If you use MS Word, the Mailings menu helps quite a bit with this chore.
every time a print a document only symbols are displayed on the paper. I ve wasted an entire pack of paper trying to figure this out
how do I scan a photo on hp officejet 4620
However, this feature must be setup in the EWS ahead of time in the EWS adminstrator settings.
how to connect to UPS
Khuslen Luvsan Do you mean an Uninterruptable Power Supply?
My feeder doesn't work when I try to scan a stack of originals. It always tries to read off the platen glass one-by-one. Very frustrating.
Albert, if you are using HP Scan, you must specify automatic feed in the software. If you are scanning from the control panel, originals should feed automatically as long as they are loaded correctly.

I had my printer a year now and I never knew what the thing on top was for, I lost my manual for the printer, does any one know what it is???
You need to be a bit more specific but the thing on the very top is the automatic document feeder. You can put a stack of originals in it and scan/copy them automatically without having to manually place them on the platen glass one-by-one.
Terry Wirth Hope you can help with my scanning issues. I hate having to scan one by one. Thank you.
I set up this machine for wireless production. However, I lost my connection to the Internet and now the printer won't connect to my computer. It won't permit me to enter my password. Please help me to set this printer up.
I believe that there is an option to repair/restore the connection in the start menu/HP. Let me know how it works out.
I can't connect to the wireless.
Thank you Terry!
My print is not printing I have put in new ink
Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly. Of so, load Printer Assistant on your PC and run print the quality diagnostics routines.
We wish you luck.
what network setup? you setup nothing
Funny! Therapy for the cost of a half-hour with a shrink.

cartridges jam
On another note, I need more memory.
man, i clicked cancel while mine was printing that alignment thingy.. i thought it was some lame thingy..... and was like "aww no, waste of ink.." my bad..
Terry Wirth wow!! thank you! i made it haha! thanks again!
