Crossing the Mighty Brahmaputra on the Naranarayan Setu - 13247 Capital Exp. (March 1, 2013)

  • A major magic moment of the journey! Fifteen minutes after departing from Goalpara Town, we went over the Brahmaputra river on the Naranarayan Setu bridge. The train was on the bridge for a good three minutes. I was rather surprised to see islands in the middle of the river. Signs of a drought, perhaps?
FYI, the 2.28 km long bridge is the third one across the Brahmaputra and was inaugurated on April 15, 1998.

    Awesome video Mani sir..
i would like to add few things...Bramhaputra is one of the longest river in India and having originated in Himalayas she flows nearly thousand kilometers before it reaches the plains of Assam.. River is consider to be in young stage when it flows through the mountain valleys and hence the flow is very rapid..This Rapid flow leads to massive erosion of rocks. As soon as the river attains her mature stage, the river bed gets widened and speed is decreases and therefore being unable to carry the eroded material further, river deposits it in the bed itself ...this eroded material (silt) later form the small islands .....That is what we call Khadar new alluvial or bhabhar old alluvial ..... :)

Sir why these places getting almost rains for all over the year, again after spring in Apr even before the advent of summer are bone dry and very sad to see sir. we must pray for rains as rain is the only blood of earth. This is assam and think our state like Andhra and Tamilnadu, both the states got no rain from 2012 to 2015 Nov followed by severe rain flood in Chennai and Andhra in Nov 2015 and again terrible rains in 2016. Now again rain plays truant as Kerala received worst rain in 2018 season and in 2017 in Maharashtra. But people must conserve water sir. Senior people like you must pray always for rains in entire country. I have watched almost all your videos and noted the environment also. When you showcased the train crossing Farakka barrage I felt tears rolling in eyes for Ganga river kindness and again your video on crossing Brahmaputra also brought me tears. You have also commented in the brahmaputra video that unusual sanding in the river during monsoon period wherein you had catched the river. You are also a naturologist when all your north eastern meter gauge videos shown all for nature site and not as a train vlog. thanks sir. Bless us sir. namaskar sir.

The bridge was completed only a few years(might be 10 yrs !)ago.Till then NH37 used to connect the Assam Valley with upto Pancharatna(the immediate next station to Goalpara)..As a result,if you visit the A.T.Road in Dibrugarh & several other places in Assam, you can see KM stone marking the distance from Pancharatna.Even I was wondering what is so special abt PNVT,that their presence is felt in DBRG also? I think their used to be ferry transportation from PNVT to Jogighopa side to connect NH-link

River Bramhaputra has many old references starting from Veda.Sage Parhuram has washed his 'parshu'(weapon )in Bramhaputra river after killing his mother and brother .Hence as per Hindu rituals 'nadi snan' ies river bath is avoided. Further this river is considered as male river in Vedic. It is only one male river. R Bramhaputra has great potential for hydropower. It starts from Manas lake and merges into bay of Bengal. Single R Bramhaputra can easily feed half of India. Thanks.

Shashi ..I think u don't respect Hinduism....Rivers are revered as God n Goddess ..n various rituals are followed daily as per local traditions n customs...
Your mind is poisoned by thinking of Mating.. I'm sorry to say this is your State of Mind..
If you don't want to follow Hinduism better convert to other religions ..U will.be paid handsome money

@@bluesky2760 : We understand that puranas are mere stories as taught to us by kindergarten educated and convent education provided by english people. Our country is united by faith and not by belief ( Faith is perennial and belief is temporary). Even english people awed by Nile river and called it as a girl in their poems. Nile in tamil is called Neelam and blue in english and Neel rang in Hindi and Sanskrit. The colour of Nile river is also blue. Don't hurt the faith of people. Englishmen purposefully hurt our culture to promote their products and for trade. Our people promoted faith to keep culture and India in one unit. I am a tamilian but I love bengali and bengali culture only because great mirza ghalib wrote kavitha in bengali and not from satyajit ray and films. Rabindranath Tagore is my school icon for English and even today I am not matched by even english professor and I have knowledge of four languages including Hindi. Ap se ek baath bathaunga sir. Pyar bantha hai bharose mann se akhal se nahi akhal se kabi nahi. dhanyavad. Mani Vijay sir bhi Tamil jaanthe hain lekin hindiwala saheb hain spasht hindi aur tamil bolte hain. Yeh sab faith ka mamla hai bharosa hai lekin tatkal belief nahi hai. aap zara samajh jayiye.

Having heard about the Brahmaputra for years and years, I expected it to be full of water. Hence, was surprised to see islands. But when we were in Guwahati for our evening cruise, we were told that there is less water this year and they ended-up moving the cruise point to some other place upstream. And then we decided not to take the cruise but enjoy the evening sunset :-)

Sign of a drought in Brahmaputra? Then what will you see the Central & Southern Indian rivers? Remember this is the river responsible for loss of millions of crops every year in the entire Assam valley due to flood....& this year was a no exception...I agree that small islands do make their presence in river beds sometimes,in fact if you cross Ganga @ Farakka Barrage, you can notice a standard island has been created with full of vegetations. That doesnt mean Ganga is suffering from drought...
