Leffen talked about how PPMD shouldn't just be studying people and should go out to more tournaments, and while most of it was matter-of-fact he basically implied near the end that PPMD was doing this on purpose. Being truthful isn't just about what you say but also about what you don't say. The lie of omission is that PPMD said in a blog post at EG that he was depressed and that it would be better for him not to participate in tournaments for a while, despite really wanting to go. The thing is, this isn't just Leffen. D1 also had the opportunity to bring it up but didn't. Did neither of them know? What about when other people talked about PPMD's absence and just echoed Leffen's sentiments that PPMD was a long shot? Maybe he was, I'm not disputing that much, but I feel like there's a sort of unwillingness to talk about top Smash players as flesh and blood with problems outside of the game. If PPMD had tried to enter more tournaments, most likely he would have been worse; he would have shown bad results in the lead-up to Apex, and he would have lost Apex.
