My dad loved Mike Tyson and we got to meet him at an airport in NJ when I was about 11 years old and Mike was very nice to me and my dad.. he signed my sneakers, hat, shirt, and $100 bill that my dad had and I still have all of those items including a few pictures of him signing everything and my dad paid to have the shirt and $100 bill framed and the hat and sneakers are in a glass case that sit on my mantel now.. I couldn't help but carry over my father's love for Tyson because how great he was as a boxer and how great he treated me and my father.. One of the last conversations me and my father had was about Mike Tyson and how he would be looked at in the future.. my dad was ahead of his time too because he always watched Mayweather and said that he would be great.. I hate my father didn't get to see how great Mayweather became but he definitely enjoyed the Tyson Era and I enjoyed spending time with him..

I've watched over 5 decades of boxing. Tyson is without a doubt the most compelling, brutal, vicious, savage fighter I have ever seen. He was a true force of nature... capable of exploding at anytime. He was also sublimely talented. If he had maintained Kevin Rooney as his trainer, he would've achieved much, much more. By dissing Tyson in 84, Biggs accidentally gave him the motivation he needed to train even harder and show his true value to the world. Tysons discipline as far as training is concerned is nothing short of astounding. That man also applied that same level of discipline towards bettering himself as a person in his later years. His entire life has been a nonstop battle towards perfection. After his boxing career was over he began reflecting on himself and has continued to grow as a person and i find his psychological progress as impressive as his boxing achievements, possibly even more impressive. Bottom line is, Tyson gives it his all and doesnt let any form of defeat to stop him.

Well said. I read in a book about Tyson's life that when he lost in the Olympic trials, team mate of his didn't know the Mike had already lost his fight to go for the gold, and he told Mike, " good luck in your fight." And a grinning Biggs said to him, and others, " I think you meant flight ✈." So i would be ticked off myself, and which Mike never forgot.

Tyson got sloppy and more lazy after Cus died, he went onto win the championship like promised them just got sloppier. This was early in his career, absolute prime Mike Tyson was short lived. He won a lot of fights afterwards but his footwork suffered a lot, and no one noticed he got worse cause his opponents weren't tough for awhile then he fought good heavyweights and lost. I believe prime Mike Tyson, or if Cus didnt die would've been a killer but as is I dont think hes a highly motivated guy post Cus

This fight shows how patient Tyson was from round 1 and on. People only remember the Buster Douglas defeat and Holyfield ear biting Mike Tyson. That Tyson was a product of Don King and others that surrounded him for money. No one remembers from 1985 to 1990 (before Don King), Tyson showed great head movement, footwork, defense and patience. At times, if he wanted to, he could be a decent counter puncher and everyone talks about Wilder being the most devastating puncher ever but, Tyson in my opinion holds that title.

I watched this fight in real time. I also watched the pre-fight press conference, and it was clear that Biggs thought insulting Tyson would somehow lend itself to a tactical advantage… IT DIDN’T! He made a comment tantamount to “Tyson’s mother not raising him right!” I’m not certain if Biggs knew, but Tyson’s mother died when he was a little kid! The look that Tyson gave Biggs after the remark was clearly, “You’re in for a long night, pal! I’m gonna PUNISH you!” During the fight, Kevin Rooney admonished Mike to put Biggs away and stop “propping him up!” Mike said (paraphrasing) “Give me one more round to beat on him, and I’ll do anything you say!” Trust me, Biggs looking decent in round one meant nothing! Tyson was simply figuring him out. Notice, from round two on, how easily Mike was cutting the ring off, and maneuvering Biggs right into position. You can’t “dance” all night and throw ineffective punches and think you’re going to win a professional boxing match!

It would be fairer to say “it’s very difficult” to dance all night without getting dragged into the kind of fight that Tyson preferred. Biggs made a great effort in that first round and he did frustrate Tyson’s efforts to land a punch. That’s what good movement and a huge reach advantage does for you. Ultimately Biggs was unable to keep Tyson from getting on the inside. But that doesn’t change the fact that he fought a perfect first round, and that didn’t happen often against Mike Tyson in those days.

Mike Tyson is a good example of how people treat others if theyre different. People put him on this pedestal as a legend but think Tyson is unintelligent because he has a lisp and is a fighter. The man was not only a legend in the ring, but he's incredibly intelligent. Especially having to go through so much hard work and dedication as a kid...

Yeah I honestly always thought that Mike wasn't too bright haha. But lately I've been watching a lot of videos about him and he's smarter than people would assume. Sometimes he would say something that's just clever/intelligent/whatever you want to call it and it makes a lot of sense. Its hard to notice at first because of the way he talks. Still he was a complete mental case when he was younger XD Absolute madlad
