- The Bellarmine Knights defeat the Jacksonville Dolphins, 77-72, to win the Atlantic Sun Championship Tournament. Bellarmine isn’t eligible for the NCAA Tournament, as it is in the process of transitioning to Division I (currently in 2nd season of transition that will last 4 seasons.) That rule is so ridiculous. Schools can compete for conference but can't play in March Madness. That is par for the course for the NCAA
Especially 4 seasons? Why??
North Dakota State University had to sit out 5 years for the same reason. The NDSU football team would have made the D1 FCS playoffs every year but couldn't because of the rule. The basketball team went to The Dance the first year they were eligible. To change the rule would be totally unfair to all the teams that had to wait 5 years. What makes Bellarmine so special?
Actually it’s up to the conferences for transition d2 to d1 teams. UC San Diego and Cal Baptist are in transition rn and they can’t compete in postseason. Cal Baptist’s women’s team even went undefeated in the 2020-2021 season and they only got to go to the WNIT
It's because NCAA hates Cinderella teams. They want the tournament to only have teams that are popular and well known, so that they can pocket more money.... the rule is there only for greedy NCAA executives.
@@GermanShepherd1983 bruh you miss the point. NDSU shouldn’t have had to sit out so you should change the rule so it doesn’t happen again.
I am a Kentucky Wildcat fan but that’s just sad for a team like Bellarmine to win their conference tournament championship but don’t get the Automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament but Jacksonville st took their place cause they had a better overall regular season conference record. Bellarmine are in transition to become full time Division 1 that just hurt. The NCAA should had made an exception for that team to play in the big dance. 💔💔💔
That wouldn't be fair to the other teams that had to sit out out the 5 year transition. What makes Bellarmine so special????
@@GermanShepherd1983 it’s not the fact about being special it’s just the rules and how it’s set. Yes it stings for them knowing winning a conference tournament and not play in the big dance. Similar to being on NCAA Probation and not play in the post season at all no matter what their record is. You can go unbeaten all regular season and not play a single postseason including your own conference tournament.
@@williambolden6437 NDSU in 2007 went 10-1 in football and even had a win over the Minnesota Gophers but no post season allowed. Everyone went through it and no reason to change it. NCAA doesn't want to make it too easy to move up.
@@GermanShepherd1983 right and it’s terrible.
Why is the transition rule 4 seasons? That would mean (mathematically) an entire four year rotating class of students (Freshman-Senior) would never see the NCAA tournament even if they managed to win the A-Sun all 4 years. How is that possibly fair? The rule should be if during that "transition" period, the team won the conference tournament, and would proudly represent the conference, they should get the bid. What is more embarrassing is now Jacksonville State will end up with a 15 seed. Great job, NCAA!
Actually it's 5 years, but the first year is called the "exploratory" year.
@@GermanShepherd1983 5 years? That is beyond ridiculous!
@@lawman7117 Just telling the truth
For anyone watching reading comments and are still confused why Bellarmine cant go to the "big dance" March Madness 68 team tournament. They were a Division 2 school that decided to go Division 1 for basketball (not sure about their other sports), but this means they have 4 years of ineligibility to go to the final tournament. Therefore, the team that won the regular season conference gets the automatic bid, which is Jacksonville State, even though they lost to Jacksonville in the conference tournament. I don't make the rules, just trying to help people understand why Bellarmine can't go dancing.
904 Duval stand up we’ll get in next year 💯
let us play!
You knew the rules when you moved up. Five years. Same rule for everyone when they moved up.
@@GermanShepherd1983 I believe it's four years not five. Nothing like being a wet blanket when someone exceeds expectations!
Bellarmine gets no post season?
They should
@@Clay_3507 I think they can go to the CBI. They played in it before. Sucky rule they can't dance.
@@KevinJL it’s not like they’re winning anything anyways if from D3. that’s totally different jump to D1
D2 not d3
Yet, they won thier conference championship. Give there team just like every other 14,15, or 16 seed
