Both head coaches were trying the same efforts for the teams. It's hard to tell which coach was better. But coach John Calipari had concerned and given the best coaching ecperience to Anthony Davis individually, and for the team's overall reputation.
Coach Cal always does a great job. It’s just difficult in this modern age to get young players to play as a team. They want to be the star & say “me me me.” As a UK fan I’m getting tired of these new players every year using the school name for the NBA. It’s frustrating. This 2012 team actually had 3 returning starters from the previous year, one of them a senior. This 2012 team wanted to be a TEAM over individual stars, & they followed coach Cal. One of the Best all around teams in 50 years. The 2015 KY was the best team in history from the 1 to the 10 spot. Unfortunately shot clock violations didn’t count that post season.
These teams play some damned good games vs. one another. I hope it goes on for several more years. The rivalry is one thing, but the quality of the teams and these games if what keeps me riveted.
@@gregwest2028 No, he really, really isn't. He wasn't even good enough that season to beat out friggin' Evan Turner for multiple POY honors. Davis dominated POY awards, setting records at UK that stand today.
Historically, John Calipari's best NCAA tournament region has been the South Region (Memphis made it to the championship before falling to Kansas in 2008, Kentucky winning the title in 2012). The South Region was also where Kentucky (coached by Tubby Smith), as a #2 seed came out of to win the 1998 title.
UK will be loaded with talent next season, but their inexperience worries me. UL will have both talent and experience next season. They really gave this championship team a run for their money.
Dude, their main player PLAYED against us earlier that year and we STILL WON. That UNC team had played together the ENTIRE year before during the 2011 season. UK actually beat them in the elite 8 that year as well. But in 2012 we had 3 new freshman starters playing in just their 7th game together and we beat them ANYWAYS. They hit their highest % from 3 of the entire year against us while we shot our second WORST % from 3 and we STILL WON. How on earth could they beat us when we were clicking...
Roger Edgerton yeah cuz he was surrounded by shooters. he was a freshman And named player of the year and mvp of the tournament. he was a fifth leading score on the team cuz he was a big man that could pass, And he was a hell of a jump shooter considering he grew like 18 inches from age 16-18. I understand your point but he didn’t have to utilize all of his talent because he had four other superstars on the court with him
kyleelvis3577 I despise the one and done. It worked in 2012 because Anthony Davis was a once in a generation player and we had a senior with Darius Miller and Doron lamb and Terrance Jones back as sophomores... oh another once in a generation Kidd-Gilchrist. The one and done process will never work out that well again. The year we lost to Wisconsin in the final four while undefeated was a fluke and we could’ve very easily had 4 or 5 losses that year. That actually would’ve done some good because that team looked so stiff in the tournament I’m surprised they didn’t lose in the second round
Lets also let it be known we are just talking trash and having fun. Me and you have talked about that before. I dont want other people to think we are really hating each other or something. Both of us respect the other program and we both love our schools. Its fun to talk trash when it does not go overboard and I am glad me and you have been able to keep it fun instead of insulting each other and all that other stuff.
We may only be top notch at one thing, but at least we can say we're the best and most storied at something. UL is a flash in the pan. 10 years from now no one will be talking about UL. UK has had a good football team in the past. We've gone to bowl games before. They just need to build it back up after years of neglect. Go look it up, "boy", UK is 14-12 against UL in football.
Still. They had Nerlens Noel, Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin and Willie Cauley-Stein. And coming from a Louisville fan, They are great players and still Coach Cal couldn't get them to the NCAA Tournament.
Exactly. Pitino took over a decade with UL to get a title, and now that they've been relevant for a couple of years they act as though they're the best program in history. Of course, they don't dare mention the fact that we stepped over them en route to our 8th just the year before. Oh well, little brothers will be little brothers I suppose.
Honestly I felt like they squashed it as well after the final four games. Now they talk good about each other. Yeah UK fans sending Ware those cards shows that we may be heated rivals but we have each others back in a weird way. We should embrace this special time in our rivalry. I mean Jesus Christ, we have won the last 2 titles and open up as the favorites for next year. As me and you have stated many times, one of us will win it again.
great game, disappointed obviously that my Cards lost, but it was a great game and our Cards gave it their all and left it all out on the court, college basketball get ready cause 2012-13 is gonna be THE YEAR OF THE CARDS!!!!
He is coming off of a devastating knee injury. Plus you need more than one 3 point shooter to win the title. Just look at our Wall and Cousins team. We were the best team in the nation and suddenly missed our first 20 three point attempts against W. Virginia in the elite 8 and lost.
Just some friendly trash talking man, that is all. I fully believe that either UK or Louisville is going to win the title again this coming year. Our game in Rupp is going to be EPIC and I cant wait. Congrats on the title and good luck this year.
Duke being a 2 seed and losing to 15 seed Lehigh is so pathetic that no loss UNC has EVER suffered is even CLOSE to being as humiliating as Duke losing to them. I was at the Miami game. We were down 18 in the first half. It was Walls first game and he went coast to coast to hit the game winner at the buzzer. Any Calipari team usually struggles early in the year with all the youth. Granted we dont lose hardly any, but they are always closer than they should.
I remember when you guys said similar things a couple of years ago. A guy by the name of Michael Kidd Gilchrist did just fine. And that team beat your team. Twice, actually. One of which was when they stepped over UL on the way to the NCAA championship. Get over the fact that more people care about Andrew Wiggins' jock than they do your teams hope at repeating.
This is the first time both teams met in the NCAA tournament since 1983 (Mideast Elite 8), and is the first time both coaches have faced off in the NCAA tournament since the 1996 Final Four (UMass vs. Kentucky, a rematch from a regular season game).
As a UK fan, gotta say that Russ and Siva were unbelievable in college. I live in the Louisville area and they are still super involved, love to see stuff like that
The only thing better than watching UK beat little brother is watching UK beat little brother in the Final Four. Can't wait till Saturday, when we take over the chicken bucket again!
The layup from 1:29:37 - 1:29:43 still amazes me given the size that was up against him. Admittingly, i'm surprised that Siva led the team with 11 pts, because i was thinking that either Behanan or Blackshear (given their size) would lead.
And also if ur a top seed, u play mid majors bracket busters in the first round and let me tell you THEY ARE REALLY GOOD!! Just look at VCU MAKING FINAL FOUR in 2011. Or George Mason in 2006. And Norfolk state and Lehigh last years first round. And of course my heart broke when WE lost to UNI, bucknell, and Bradley. Trust me IT'S SO NICE TO WIN.
Based on some VERY early predictions for the preseason polls to come out in late October/early Nov, we're in tight competition with Indiana for the #1 spot.
Indiana is an outstanding offensive team, but now that they've emerged into relevancy, i don't see them running away with the title so soon. There could be a team trying to re-establish itself that could stop them next year.
Yeah is absolutely loaded. Michigan State, at Carolina, Baylor in Dallas, Louisville, Boise State who return everyone from a tournament team, Belmont who made the tournament ect. Or are you referring to another teams schedule?
coming from a man with blue blood, i want to wish the Cards good luck and hoping UL fans get a taste of what we tasted last year. I admist I am not a UL fan but, want to see the title come back to KY anyway possible. I will pull for the cards but no way I am wearing red
I guess I do have to spell it out.. We just played in BCS Bowl last night.. We won. WE also have more SEC wins than Auburn, UK, Tenn. COmbined this year.. We are also returning nearly all of these players for at least 1 more year possibly 2 if they dont go pro.. THATS JUST FOOTBALL.. And if you watch Louisville basketball, you would understand we are young, outside of 3 players.. 1 senior (Siva) 2 JUNIORS (Smith/Dieng).. Not to mention basball/soccer. etc.. UK only has mediocre basketball.
ofcourse, you pretty much have to if you drive all the way to new orleans. i had red beans and rice down there that was God-like lol. Can't wait til this year! it's in Atlanta not quite as exciting as burben street at New orleans lol
You take the best player off of any team and it will hurt them. Our offense and defense was in the top 10 that year and 6 players averaged double figures. Unselfish, talented, and chemistry won the title. It does not matter anyways because we DID have Davis.
The intriguing thing about this Kentucky team is that they have beaten three of last years final four teams, and they came together as a team at the right time
Now that both coaches are 2-2 (1992 Sweet 16/1996 Final Four, and 2012 Final Four/2014 Sweet 16) in the NCAA tournament (Sweet 16/Final Four), i hope Rick has a trick up his sleeve come December. Since January 2009 (even including Sosa's buzzer beater), ONLY once in the rivalry was UK out-rebounded (40-33 in this game).
CARDS GOIN ALL THE WAY IN MARCH.. BTW Im here as a Cards fan just watching how good we looked last year in march and to see how much we have already improved.. Looking to see different plays.. etc. So UK fanboys watching this video living in the past because your current team is slacking, dont be so quick to troll. We all know where the best All around athletics program is in KY. Its In Louisville KY.. UK might as well setttle down a bit. This louisville team and pitino are about to show you.
I'm honestly excited this year for football as well. Kentucky has a new coach and has a top 25 recruiting class in football for the first time in God knows how long and Louisville is returning some big players from their Sugar Bowl Championship team, although I'm a UK fan I have to give the edge to Louisville in that just because of experience but I think that it could be a very exciting game
Wow congrats. We lost our top 6 players. I would hope you would be ranked higher when you return everyone. You just showed the difference in mentalities between Louisville and UK. Louisville cares about where it ranks at the start of the season, UK cares about the end and will again finish ahead of Louisville. I guess I would care about preseason rankings too if my team had not won a title since the Reagan administration.
Come to think of it, John Calipari needed to establish himself, which by becoming the coach of Kentucky, he just steadily escalated himself, with the third time being the charm. Now that John has his first title, Kentucky this year will probably go the direction of Kansas and Memphis in 2009 or Duke in 2011, in that those defending champions were upset targets in the Sweet 16 to other teams (Michigan St, Missouri, Arizona) trying to regain some attention.
Darius Miller had a three play sequence beginning at 56:31 that was as good as it gets. He was my favorite player on this team. He could do a little of everything.
i remember card fans running thier mouths, saying that UK's 2012 banner, had better be made of velcro, because the championship would be taken away eventually... lol 2013 ul wins the championship... 2018 their banner is taken down... GO BIG BLUE!!!
1st ! Coach Pitino best basketball Coach ever in all of Basketball History ! 2nd ! Kentucky's 2012 Team possibly best College Team ever in College Basketball History ! Much respect to Coach Denny Crum also ! Coach Calapari did a Excellent job with Kentucky's Team !
Russ certainly will be POY candidate. So will Julius Randle. I will continue to psych myself up over those freshmen. Doing so worked well for 3 out of 4 years under Cal, and it brought us 4 wins in 5 games against the little brother school. Please, continue to watch the video at the top. Watch MKG contain your guards and watch UK handle your pressure. Hell, the Harrisons will simply step over your little JUCO kid. Hahaha.
I don't remember uk dominating soo much at the end of the game, they had like 5 dunks in a row breaking their press that got them to the final 4 every time.
UL fans never acknowledge the fact that they lose to UK more often than not, that Cal took what was perceived to be just a decent team to a F4 a couple years back, and that it took Pitino over a decade to take their program all the way. I'm really curious to hear their excuses when UK soundly beats them this year and they're program doesn't get half the attention that it got last year.
Yeah but you still had them is my point. People are acting like Louisville was a team full of nobodies that had less talent than most teams which is NOT true. Louisville was stacked with talent and experience. We always rely on talent but people act like we have 25 year old NBA veterans on our team when we really have RAW 18 year old talent.
No, the term BCS school means a school in one of the big 6 conferences. SEC, ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 10. All other schools are known as non bcs schools. And yes, me and you have even agreed on this before, that Duke vs UNC is NOTHING compared to our great rivalry. Last 2 titles and the top 2 teams next year. One of us will win a title. No matter what I say about Louisville, I respect the hell out of them and know they have a historically great basketball program. NO question
Contrary to popular belief, the winner of the Bluegrass hasn't always advanced the furthest in the NCAA tournament 1997-98 - Louisville wins the battle, but Kentucky won the NCAA title (#2 seed) 2004-05 - Kentucky narrowly wins the battle, but falls in the E8 to MSU in OT (Louisville survives WVU in OT to advance to the Final Four).
Unfortunately, since Calipari became coach, it has been the game to determine who goes the furthest in the tournament between both teams. Personally, i'm glad we're having more size to our team this year because that issue has been why UNC and UK have caused us trouble.
Should be much better upfront this year. Obviously, being the tallest team does not absolve the team of any liability (Kansas - 2012 defeated UNC who was the taller team that season).
Definition of Irony, a year after winning the NCAA Tournament, they get eliminated in the first round of the N.I.T. Tournament as a top seed to Robert Morris, while the Cardinals end up in the Title Game the following year.
Game commentary brought to you by Jim Nance, Clark Kellogg, and Louisville's official minister of propaganda on the day Steve Kerr. Before the ball was ever put in the air to jump it up, Kerr was telling us how Kentucky to this point had all comfortable match-up's against the likes of Iowa St., Indiana, & Baylor, but how Louisville was gonna make things very uncomfortable for the Cats in this game. If your a lifelong, born and raised your entire life Cat fan as I am, a tournament run that included sending arch rivals Indiana, Louisville, & Kansas asses packing on the way to hanging another banner in Rupp Arena just doesn't get any sweeter than that!! GO CATS!!
2012 was the first time that Kentucky had won the NCAA Tournament as a #1 seed since 1996 (Midwest Region). When Kentucky won the 1998 title, they were a #2 seed (South Region) coached by Tubby Smith (former assistant to Rick Pitino)
If you can shoot better from the outside it very well could be. IU, U of L, and UK are ALL gonna be pretty dang good next year. Our matchup in December could be for a number 1 ranking on top of everything else. If Pitino is EVER gonna beat Cal, it better be this year cause it probably wont happen again.
What's ironic about that? Kentucky won the title and then lost 6 players. UL returned most of their team. It's not like it was the same teams returning the next year.
Honestly, I had no problem wit Louisville winning the title. They deserved one and were the best team last year without a doubt. Its better to keep it in state than have it end up in North Carolina or some shit. Yeah the BCS is a football thing but when they talk about the power conferences they use the term non bcs or as others call them, mid majors. Yeah WSU had you guys on the ropes for a minute. I knew you all would come back to win and knew you all would not leave empty handed.
Who is here after 2020 March madness was cancelled?

This 2012 team wanted to be a TEAM over individual stars, & they followed coach Cal. One of the Best all around teams in 50 years. The 2015 KY was the best team in history from the 1 to the 10 spot. Unfortunately shot clock violations didn’t count that post season.
Rick
These teams play some damned good games vs. one another. I hope it goes on for several more years. The rivalry is one thing, but the quality of the teams and these games if what keeps me riveted.
Anthony Davis had the best freshman year of all time no debate🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
Carmelo Anthony was amazing in his freshman year as well
Wall is a contender
@@MrDkirksey23 on one end of the court. he didn't effect the game like Davis could.
@@gregwest2028 No, he really, really isn't. He wasn't even good enough that season to beat out friggin' Evan Turner for multiple POY honors. Davis dominated POY awards, setting records at UK that stand today.
Kevin Durrant was a beast his freshman year
Historically, John Calipari's best NCAA tournament region has been the South Region (Memphis made it to the championship before falling to Kansas in 2008, Kentucky winning the title in 2012). The South Region was also where Kentucky (coached by Tubby Smith), as a #2 seed came out of to win the 1998 title.
UK will be loaded with talent next season, but their inexperience worries me. UL will have both talent and experience next season. They really gave this championship team a run for their money.
This Louisville defeat led to a great following championship year and maybe again this upcoming year.
Dang I miss sports !!! Especially The Big Blue during March !!! C A T S !!!!!!
Can you imagine Anthony Davis staying all 4 years? He would’ve averaged a quadruple double every game
Darius Miller is a top 10 all time UK PLAYER. The numbers might not say it but his contributions were priceless
Settle down, Beavis. That's a stupid ridiculous thing to say.
Not gonna lie this Kentucky did me great on betting big time.
2019 anyone?.......anyone....
Ella Jackson aye what’s up
2020.
1:16:58 play of the game. UK did not look back after that. Wicked move by Kidd-Gilchrist.
I live in the Louisville area and they are still super involved, love to see stuff like that
Siva had hops too, they were just too small, if he was like 6'4/6'5 he would have made it in the nba forsure.
The only thing better than watching UK beat little brother is watching UK beat little brother in the Final Four. Can't wait till Saturday, when we take over the chicken bucket again!
Potential candidate for Big East Defensive Player of 2013.
Most exciting college basketball game i ever saw!
better than Marcus Paige hitting a clutch shot and then Villanova hitting a gw to win a natl championship
+JBpaperstacks123 probably not!💯😂
King I was there that's probably why it was so exciting
What? The kys are up 9 with
The layup from 1:29:37 - 1:29:43 still amazes me given the size that was up against him.

Do you have the Louisville Florida game from this years Elite 8??
Dieng, Smith - gone....Congratulations 'Cards #3 is nice. 8 is great and 9 will be fine! Go UK!
Won the College Baseball World Series, swim club, and also We got the MVP of the tournament living here, Peyton Siva jr.
Syracuse won the title with a lot of young players too but yeah what Kentucky accomplished last season is remarkable.
dude do you have the kentucky vs kansas finals game??
when are they going to put the championship game on youtube?
Indiana is an outstanding offensive team, but now that they've emerged into relevancy, i don't see them running away with the title so soon. There could be a team trying to re-establish itself that could stop them next year.
Yeah is absolutely loaded. Michigan State, at Carolina, Baylor in Dallas, Louisville, Boise State who return everyone from a tournament team, Belmont who made the tournament ect. Or are you referring to another teams schedule?
@ rays cards fan62 correction if chris & russ smith & kyle kuric had better shot selection we wudda had back 2 back titles now('12 &'13)
P.S love that Kentucky BEAT Louisville AGAIN here. Also a good idea to post these games on TH-cam.
coming from a man with blue blood, i want to wish the Cards good luck and hoping UL fans get a taste of what we tasted last year. I admist I am not a UL fan but, want to see the title come back to KY anyway possible. I will pull for the cards but no way I am wearing red
Kansas was just lucky to make the championship game, the way they've played against Purdue, NC State, and Ohio St.
Ima louisville fan great game sucks to lose to kentucky but still hell of a game ! #L1C4
woo hooo get uk and baylor and kansas up man lol great work by the way...............
what happened to kellog's voice he doesn't sound like his voice in 2k12 at all
You take the best player off of any team and it will hurt them. Our offense and defense was in the top 10 that year and 6 players averaged double figures. Unselfish, talented, and chemistry won the title. It does not matter anyways because we DID have Davis.
Unfortunately first and last Championship for Coach Cal.
Without anybody on that team we would have lost in the first round. That team was the most unselfish team ever to win it all in my opinion.
You are absolutely right!! ONE of the hardest tournament to win in all of sports!! You play teams with so many styles and so many teams. And on
cannot believe it’s been 10 YEARS !!!!
The intriguing thing about this Kentucky team is that they have beaten three of last years final four teams, and they came together as a team at the right time
one of my fave games ever go uk
Now that both coaches are 2-2 (1992 Sweet 16/1996 Final Four, and 2012 Final Four/2014 Sweet 16) in the NCAA tournament (Sweet 16/Final Four), i hope Rick has a trick up his sleeve come December. Since January 2009 (even including Sosa's buzzer beater), ONLY once in the rivalry was UK out-rebounded (40-33 in this game).
Rick neva knew how 2 recruit length eva
Oh how the tables have turned 😼
He could do a little of everything.
i remember card fans running thier mouths, saying that UK's 2012 banner, had better be made of velcro, because the championship would be taken away eventually...
lol
2013 ul wins the championship...
2018 their banner is taken down...
GO BIG BLUE!!!
🔵LITTLE BROTHER ALWAYS!!! BBN 🔵
How many wins would you have if your team was mostly freshmen and transfers?
Go KENTUCKY
hours and hours and hours of sprints and drills and being the practice dummy all year long without touching the ball.... Still probably worth it.
Hahaha.
Wait, I thought u were a luvulle fan? We open with Garden Webb, and Florida Atlantic. We also play in maui, @Indiana, @ texas, and UNLV.
1:15:20 loved this as a Cats fan.
NO question
Ever heard of Peyton Siva by any chance?
we need another one of these seasons
They do in football. NCAA rules state that a football player cannot go pro until after their junior year or 3rd year if they're red-shirted.
Contrary to popular belief, the winner of the Bluegrass hasn't always advanced the furthest in the NCAA tournament
1997-98 - Louisville wins the battle, but Kentucky won the NCAA title (#2 seed)
2004-05 - Kentucky narrowly wins the battle, but falls in the E8 to MSU in OT (Louisville survives WVU in OT to advance to the Final Four).
7000ironman here's a stat for you... UK has 8 titles, UofL has 3. The number 3 is cute I guess.
7000ironman oh, another stat... Pitino is 1-5 against Cal and the Cats.
True.
Who was the best player for Louisville? Please answer
Louisville is gonna be so good next year .
